Ha! Love this! My mom used to sing this to me when I was little! I sang it the other nite to my little granddaughters but couldn't remember all the words. So here I am searching it out! My mom graduated in 1942.
This 3 Little Fishies is better than the Andrews Sisters version even though the latter used more superficially advanced electronic recording technology. But it isn't that the Andrews Sisters didn't have a lot of stuff which remains unparalleled.
Kay Kyser had the biggest hit w/ this, but Kemp did it first. Interesting story how it got recorded. Find out in my new book, 'Kay Kyser-the Ol' Professor of Swing! America's Forgotten Superstar' Google it!
Has anyone here ever seen a film where a girl in a raincoat stabs a fat guy on a couch while this song plays on a skipping record player? This has been plaguing me for 25 years!!!
Hal Kemp had a great sound and the Smoothies are definitely smooth! This is one of those specialty novelty numbers of the 40's era like the Hut Sut Song and the Woody Woodpecker's Serenade that helped make the Forties what they were. Great posting.
nyanimalgirl : I have a few more of their recordings, if interested. They sang with Hal Kemps Orchestra in the late 1930's-early 1940's. In the early 1930's , they were called Babs & Her Brothers. Great comment!
