i know this is a old cooler, but stil i took a shoot at it and mounted it on my am3 phenom 2 x4 965 BE... and surprice!!! it works great... So great that i can get it 24 ouhr stable at 4 Ghz.
thats awsome.
i even got 4,1 Ghz stable but with a small hickup in crysis as the only thing.
my AMD Athlon X2 64 5600+ (2.8Ghz, NOT OVERCLOCKED) idles between 57-62c and 110~120c when playing games (yes, it's true. until it shuts down by itself afterwards).. I checked the CPU slot on the mobo and there is a black stain and there's a burnt pin on the processor.. However, it is still working though and I'm using it right now. The consequence however is I cannot play games anymore. Is buying another heatsink like Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme is would solve my temp problem?
dont use the paste they give you ?? you crazy ??? thats tuniq TX3 one of the best pastes around
see th whole article if you can ... out of 80 tested pastes tuniq comes in top 5 wit .1 degree diffrence with the best .... so i think it will be a safe bet to use tuniq tx3
Indeed. Information on setting up the Tuniq does seem to be scarce. Thankfully, I have a HAF 932 case. VERY large case LOL! I did not have to remove the motherboard. Once I realized how the lever worked, I had it installed in under a minute :D Had my case been any smaller, I would have had to remove the motherboard.
Using your bare hands will result in oils from your skin to be caught in the TIM so it won't cool properly.. I suggest using a ziploc bag or something similar.
Spreading thermalpaste with plastic wrapped finger is TERRIBLE. Trust me, the dot-method is the BEST. u get air bubbles if u spread, which gives u higher temps
go to the 2nd page of comments on this page and read his long reply to a dude about the way he spreads his thermal paste, a lot easier than using a card.
seriously, you have got to be some kind of a moron, you spread thermal paste with a credit card or ID or something, NOT YOUR FINGERS!! you are asking to die bro.
Yeah after I spread it with my fingers I lick the excess thermal paste off my fingers. It tastes quite well. There is no warning on the label that says don't eat it. Nothing bad has happened to me except I can no longer move my left arm. Just kidding. I use a better method of spreading thermal paste now, I use a zip-lock bag and use my finger the spread it around though the bag. Works quite well and it easier than using a card.
Nice sarcasm bro, you shouldn't be making vids if your gonna do it wrong.
First of all it would be so much easier taking the mobo out that way you wont have doubts about it you seated it write. Secondly, dont use the paste they give you, it is terrible. Thirdly, you get better results when you apply a strip of paste down the middle of the IHS of the CPU. And the spreading-with-finger thing, dude what can i say....your a noob
@ati4870ftw acctully i disagree put a cornor from a plasticbag on your finger tip and start spreading, or spread with a credit card, it gives metter results than a strip in the middle ;)
hey bro NEVER TOUCH THE THERMAL PASTE WITH YOUR BARE HANDS! whats wrong with you? unless u want to get CANCER! i'd be careful about that use something else but never your skin. FYI
I would HIGHLY advise it too...you can buy a cheap 10 dollar thermaltake fan and pump twice as much air.
I have a question Chief...whats the measurements from the copper base to the aluminum fins...also how far does the 120mm fan drop under the heat sink half a inch?
Also curious how long is the heatsink from copper pipe to the sides?
I want to get one but I gotta make sure it passes my north bridge and south bridge.
It's a pain to install because the fan needs to be moved up in order to have enough room to use the clip. I've done it with it inside the case, but if you dont get the fan out of the way it's not gonna happen.
This guy is retarded. Obviously an amature at working on PC's. First of all you install a large heatsink with the motherboard out of the case. That's the reason you had such a hard time. Not because AM2 heatsinks are hard to install you tool!!
Spreading thermal paste with your fingers..haha!! You obviously have never read the instruction on the arctic silver website on how to apply paste. You use a dab the size of a grain of rice and DO NOT SPREAD IT!!
No I agree with him...that video was helpful for which bracket to use...other than that all I saw was his rage and impatience of installing it...sorry man...video not helpful
you should post tutorials only if you really know what youre doing. you installed it wrong/the hard way + you spread the thermal paste with your fingers. why would you do that.
Most impressive that you mention which way to put the CPU cooler so that the heat expels out the exhaust fan at the back. Hmm just like many many other PC noobs who fit coolers and overclock, they have their PC cases right up against the wall. So I ask you this, all this heat that is generating inside your case, how is that heat meant to be expelled, when your exhaust fan is that close up to the wall. Heat is being bounced back in your pc.
It is a good aftermarket cooler and will work fine on your phenom. Its just a little bit of a pain to get on for the first time because that bracket is very tight.
i think your wrong about the chipset as it is a 590 not a 570, i own one with a 6000+amd x2 4gb OCZ nvidia sli ready memory, 2 x asus en8600gt silent, its fast as fuck. overclocked memory, cpu, gpus.
Someone told me that the way to apply thermal compund without making a mess was to us a plastic grocery bag over your fingers. Thanks for this video man. I appreciate it since I ordered all of the pieces for my new build last night from newegg and plan on building it in the next few days. I'm using youtube as a step by step guide to help in anything I can't figure out. Good Job and thanks again!
You can you a plastic bag, or even better a little zip-lock bag. Rubber cleaning gloves work well too, or you can do it the way I did it by just using your fingers but make sure they are clean and grease free.
yeah it was, if you liked this video check out my other channel that has more computer videos. I try to keep them and my rc videos separate. My other channel is "kandashow"
Hey chiefredbeard. That is an awesome cooler. I had to send my P5K back for an rma and left the 775 bracket stuck to the board and of course i never saw it again. Are you interested in selling me your 775 bracket? I will pay for shipping. I hate to let this cooler go to waste, no way I buy a new one just for the bracket either. Let me know. Thanks.
I could make an ebay auction with a buynow on it so you can scarf it, if thats all right with you its fine with me. It just could be a couple days before I did anything. Does that plan sound good. I will message you before I make the auction for sure.
Hey dude, u know the onboard sound for this mobo does urs crackle slightly?, and i use a ANTEC 900 so a stock fan will be kool for me (until i over clock)
I used the onboard for a while but in games the sound didn't sound right, but they didn't crackle. So I went back to my old creative labs audigy card, it sounds way better than the onboard!
That has to be the worst install of a cpu cooler i have ever seen bud! 1 never put the paste on with your fingers.2 once you have placed that cpu cooler onto your cpu you should never lift it off again and if you do you should clean cpu off and start with fresh paste on cpu and cooler.3 try taking mobo out before putting in a cooler it's so much easier.4 You in your vid that you were hoping 4 better temps i would say if you installed that cpu cooler the right way u will get better temps:)
Dude, it doesn't matter if you use your fingers, just as long as there clean. I clean mine with an alcohol wipe before I apply the paste. I know it would have been easier to put on if I took my mobo out too, but did not feel like taking everything out. I also get excellent temperatures, watch the video response and look at the picture of my system temps in the video description.
Bud i aint be a arse or nothing there to much of that on youtube already its just a very funny install to watch,i saw your temps and they are not bad somehow:).That cooler you have is one of the best on the market.
Why is everyone freaking out? I always use alcohol wipes to clean all the acids and dirt from my finger before I spread the paste. I hope you know I am getting excellent temps; I get low to mid teens in Celsius. I also can prove it too by uploading a video of them.
There's actually various ways of doing it, it just depends on the person. Some people say to put a dot, some say a line. Some say to spread it out, some don't.
HOWEVER, you're definitely correct about the finger part.
You should take out the motherboard out of the case much easier to install that wy I know it a pain but that the best way to do it. and you can see easier if it install correctly.
and another thing... the force that clip has is brutal. you really need to push hard on it to get to grip the socket.
Im trying to figure how to get two more fans on it;-)
hopefully i`ll get to the 4,4 24 stable in prime 95.

Has it occurred to no one? Mount the cooler on the mobo OUTSIDE THE CASE and then put the motherboard inside the case. Duh?
