  • King Crimson, it's the first time I've heard of you, and the first time I've heard you. Interesting song, to say the least.

  • gooood song!

  • amazing

  • Its just pure magic.

  • I was nine years old, for Pete's sake, and first time I heard this, I was HOOKED! I became a fan of Greg Lake during his days with EL&P, and have been a fan ever since.

And anyone who is familiar with Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series of books (seven volumes, the first volume released in the mid 1980s and the last released in 2004), this song was King's inspiration for the antagonist of that series of books. The "Crimson King" was last seen trapped on a balcony of the Dark Tower.

  • @MLFromGeorgia Yeesh, spoiler alert. I'm a big fan of King, too. Too bad.

  • Not sure which gay ('offensive') man we're talking about here. but early 70's, Messrs Fripp & Lake et al were/are a damn sight better than much of the modern merde. Now we're in it, 21st Schizoid Man anyone?

  • Had to come o youtube because My 8th grade brother scratched all my vinyls.

  • @potfly666 The pain.

  • nice jewel of a forgotten band, found ,brushed off ,cleaned an sparkles again.

  • totally agree w/ u @Skinkandragon1

  • This is so good.

  • I have this split over both sides of a single.......doubt if it was played on Radio One.....pop pickers!

  • Good music is Timeless. This is Proof. That is all.

  • KLAATU

  • why is it that everyone knows pink floyd but not king crimson?

  • @TheBoomstickhero Probably due to the constant line-up changes that King Crimson went through in early stages, which made for a lot of issues. I also think it had a lot to do with the idea that their sound was a lot more experimental (or just more 'widespread') than Pink Floyd's, who were bringing out chart-friendly albums like Dark Side of the Moon when KC were releasing avante-garde joyrides like Larks' Tongue In Aspic. I feel KC are known more for their influence on music than their stardom.

  • I found my head to this album and many many other's like it . One must possess an appreciation for these "artists". Not just musicians...truly artists.

  • I still do listen a lot to these albums without having th feeling this is over.. These songs means still a lot to me after all those years and after all it is very fine music and well-composed..

  • I heard Enter Sandman once or twice and I thought the main riff reminded me of the acoustic verse riff of this song. The difference is that this song isnt as infectious and in the end about as fun as H.I.V..

Well then its the whole thing with this song not sounding anything like Enter Sandman.

I was going to troll and accuse King Crimson of ripping them off even if King Crimson are the grandfathers of prog rock...but I just couldnt do it.

  • How about Van Der Graaf generator? Yes, Budgie and even Wishbone Ash.

  • TripleTroll ... Like so many classics of the 70's ... lost in the need for new. I was 16 when this came out ... and I still drop the diamond on this vinyl . Tull, ELP. King Crimson ... brilliant old progressive rock !

  • Classic prog! Thanks for posting!

  • Just started listening to them a few days back because i saw children of men, where the fuck has this song been hiding from me?

  • @TripleTrollForce Not alot of people listen to prog rock anymore. Even though its the kind of music that works great in a cinematic setting.

  • One of the best album covers ever

  • Most people have never heard this

  • Who cares about Gay. Fuck off if you have no good taste. This song rocks. This gay man will smack u so hard if I was there. Maybe then you would like it. Knock some sense into you. Then I will take your girlfriend and treat her right. Show her how a real man acts. Intro her to my straight friends who LOVE this song. I am positive the have more of everything than you do. Hater boy. By the way. It was PERFECT in "Children of Men." Loved that movie and the awesome soundtrack. Check it out.

  • @bigdanbear dude... deep breath... it's the internet...

  • @lkkjhg45 ,No, you're gay. Not that there is anything wrong with that. So, zip it! And why if you think it's gay would you seek it out?

  • @lkkjhg45 obviously you are 16 years old...the rap & hip hop u listen to is just crap.

  • @lkkjhg45 yes, because a song can have sexual preferences...

  • @lkkjhg45 actually, if you think your cool with your spliff, this was a REAL stoner group

  • read the lyrics...

  • great song!!

  • Nothing compliments a good game of chess better than the music of King Crimson.

  • 2:21 best cycling music ever

  • I've been listening to King Crimson for ages, and every time I hear this it still blows my mind.

  • When I first heard this song I said "For goodness' sake!" out loud. I think it was because I found the musical imagination of it overwhelming.

    Love it, hehe!

  • he says and smiles as the puppets dance doesnt he?

  • WHERE IN THE LYRICS DOES IT SAY "THE DANCE OF PUPPETS?"

  • @SirTorment I was wondering the same damn thing. He never says that!

  • very like roger waters pink floyd

  • i am 62 coming on in my old age and i still love this music i rember the good old days when life was good not like it is now i am

  • This is some good shit

  • I ain't no expert and frankly speaking not much of a devoted fan of psychodelic pieces made by Pink Floyd. For me "Echoes" are soo complete in as well form and matter, that it can be marked with top "music quality". Still though I get your point, lets all gather round Pink Floyd's awesomeness and embrace it ;)

  • im no longer in a bad mood =)

  • maybe one of the 10 masterpieces of rock music, and when i talk about masterpieces i dont make reference to "satisfaction" or "yesterday" or "like a rolling stone" (good songs, but no magnificient songs) i'm talking about music than is closest to the ambitions of clasical music or jazz than rock, this song, along with a few others, are the most notable proofs that rock music is an art and not pure exhibitionism

  • @progreadicto Cassandra Gemini -> look it up, best prog piece of music yet in the 21st century.

  • @LeftBehindForDead maybe the best mars volta's song. of course a great progressive tune! (and maybe one of the best of all times)

  • @progreadicto If yer list includes Pink Floyd's "Echoes" I'm totally with you, man. Prog rock is a pure art. Period. Cheers ;)

  • @forzamilano94 well, i think "intellestellar overdrive" and "a saucerful of secrets (the song)" are better than echoes, but both pieces are not progressive but psychedelic, in that way, "echoes" is the best prgressive song of pink floyd. particullary i don't think that "pomposity and complexity" are the same that "music quality".

  • @progreadicto I agree, the earlier work of Pink Floyd did have a psychedelic element to it.

Nevertheless, I never thought they would reach mass-audience appeal back then, but they did after tweaking their sound somewhat with the release of DSOTM.

  • @mrsolofeo no no, dont had and element, the music of early pink floyd was PURE psychedelia, the creators of the cosmic music and one of the best psychedelic bands of all times.the quality of their music changes drastically since meddle: dark side, animals, and the wall was by far a trio of the most overrated albums of all times. good albums, but never masterpieces.

  • @progreadicto Define masterpiece.

  • @speechpessi mmm, its difficult, but maybe : "a fusion of the words: original, innovative, dense, deep, an interesting meaning, not conventional. and etc..". for example this song is a masterpiece, robert wyatt's alifib is a masterpiece, but the songs of albums like "animals" are bored imitations of atmospheric-clasical music, smooth textures and catchy refrains that you can find in most of the prog rock standards of that day, uninteresting, good but no so good

  • @progreadicto This is clearly your opinion and my opinion is that you don't appreciate enough their music. Albums such as The Wall, Dark Side of The Moon, wish you were here weren't made to be accessible to the masses. Waters's lyrics were phenomenal and this is a fact. Also Gilmours technic and compositions were unique. The Solo in "Another Brick In The Wall pt2" is a mastepiece and guitar players know that better. "Comf numb" has one the best solos in history.

  • @speechpessi man, i only said that these albums were good albums, but if you want to made a masterpiece you have to go far away, i understand a rock masterpiece as a song that easily can be at the same level of the masterpieces of jazz and clasical music, songs like intellestelar overdrive and a saucerful of secrets was masterpieces. man, rock is far more than making solos and creating beauty melodies.

  • @progreadicto They didn't just come up with a riff and then put some random lyrics to make hits. This is not PF. Their songs are amazing, lyrically and musicaly and people apprreciated their work that's why we stil buy their albums.

  • @speechpessi i know that pink floyd didnt make songs in that way. i only said that their music after dark side become less interesting than the music of their first albums. dark side and the wall are famous albums thanks to their "social impact", musically there were examples of far more original music.

  • @progreadicto BTW, have you ever listened the Wall? All songs one by one? I don't get how come you're not impressed. I mean what else do you want from musicians? :P

  • @mrsolofeo I agree with you that Pink Floyd's music did change after Meddle--and I do believe it was a conscience move on their part to make their music more accessible to the masses. And I think that's why Waters left.

  • @mrsolofeo Wtf are you people talking about?! omg!

  • Does Prog rock get any more epic than this?

  • @bastardacademic Pink Floyd, man ;)

  • @forzamilano94 absolutely sir.

  • Have loved this song for decades, but need to say this: The music you listen to does not define who you are. The way you behave towards others - good, bad, selfish, kind, helpful, self absorbed, loving, caring...... these traits define who you are.

  • @maxauburn of course mate. Otherwise I'd be talking to mainly the older generation.

  • @maxauburn thats beautiful man

  • Absolutely mindblowing stuff. Robert Fripp and Greg Lake's vocals....priceless. This truly opened the doors for Progressive Rock. Groups like Gentle Giant,Yes, Soft Machine,Focus, early Genesis,Gong,Atomic Rooster, early Pink Floyd, and countless others. This song ,along with Close to the Edge,Supper's Ready,Echoes,Firth of Fifth, The Gates of Delerium,Larks in Toungue's aspic, and Atom heart Mother are true masterpieces.Never will their be music like this again in my opinion. Prog Rules.

  • @psfirthoffith That's a mindblowing list of Artists and songs you've listed there!!

  • @maxauburn I feel like this is a decade of self absorbed selfishness...

  • @maxauburn well said

  • @maxauburn Selfishness is not bad.

  • @maxauburn I disagree, one can tell a lot from a person by what music he's listening to.

  • @exterMEANator He means that your tastes don't necessarily reflect your morals or attitude and therefore your character.

  • @XeeGen Well he says it doesn't define who we are, and that our moral values define us. I disagree, they're a big part of it, but there's more to a person than his moral values.

  • KENNY VS SPENNY

  • @ZachRoles omfg yes.

  • The Devil=King Crimson

  • @beowulf1963 All the more reason to love KING CRIMSON!!!

  • this is absolutely gorgeous!

  • amazing masterpiece

  • This reason people called stuff like this progressive was because it shorted out the brains of people with more mainstream musical tastes whenever they listened to it.

    But that was back then.

    Yesterday's progressive becomes today's pop.

  • @mrsolofeo the word progressive i believe its also used to describe certain structural elements of the song, so its not just a cultural matter, your argument is simplistic

  • @jorge1234 I agree, progressive has a lot to do with how a song is composed, but there is a visceral element--of what's acceptable or unacceptable to the average person. Back then some of my acquaintances refused to listen to Court of the Crimson King--said it was too ominous and threatening. Quite ironically, however, people who thought that Pink Floyd's early stuff was weird were rushing out to buy DSOTM a few years later.

  • @mrsolofeo todays pop music is NOT progressive.. justin bieber is NOT progressive

  • @binky69 I agree, but bands like Pink Floyd who were once underground did become pretty mainstream in time. They went from experimental-progressive to top-40 within a few years. If you listen to Ummagumma and then DSotM, their sound didn't change too dramatically, but they did move toward reaching a wider audience.

  • there used to be a video on youtube of this song with a video of a Tom and Jerry cartoon that matched up perfectly, wish I could find that somewhere,it was scary good,as is this song.

  • @panzercat39 here's the Tom & Jerry link for the court of the crimson king

  • @beattleBob Yeah,I found it.It really is crazy how well they match up,where do people find the time to figure something like that out.

  • What? Its over already? Replay please.

  • There's something really great about the chords of the chorus.

  • thumbs up if the venture brothers got you to check this out

  • You could just listen to this for hours on end.

  • @Guuunston that's what ive been doing. its sex to the ears.

  • ALL PEOPLE LET'S SING ..FOR THE COURT OF THE CRIMSON KIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH (ENJOY THE MELODY) AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • I'm still in my dad's ball sack and I think this is great music even though other semen make fun of me

  • @ledracke Ugh I hate it when Semens act all Inmature... Hipster semens are the worst.

  • CHILDREN OF MEN

  • @Tripo1iSamson, this was done way before that movie. I was smoking weed to this album back in the 70's and 80's. BUT, I must say, that it fit perfectly.

  • @Tripo1iSamson Yes thats why it has an apocalyptic feel to it cause of that film, its possibly my favorite scene the part with this song in it.

  • @Tripo1iSamson This song is on there??

  • @TNTIV aye

  • @Tripo1iSamson Such a fitting song.

  • Life is a distinct shade of crimson and it feels good

  • @kennywpara I'm 13 and I completely agree with you. Everyone makes fun of me because I don't know who Nicki Minaj is. This is one of the greatest songs ever written. Like Stairway, this song is a ballad. I would like to hear a modern song like either one.

  • @DontDisMeeyogi I'm 15 and I love King Crimson

  • @DontDisMeeyogi Opeth dude, Porcupine Tree, Steven Wilson, Katatonia, real music is out there. You just have to look harder than ever before. ):

  • Reminds me of Aphrodites Child, especially somthing from their 666 album, Bothe albums would have been recording around the same time.

  • used to sit in my car with a gun in my mouth trying to pull the trigger when this song peaked, good times

  • I know I shouldn't say this, but I'm glad the film Children Of Men pointed me out to this song and this band.

    They're both brilliant.

  • People, you must understand that modern music isn't bad, it's just different. And it doesn't matter if the music uses "real instruments" or electronic sounds, the only important thing is if it is good or not. And, there is no age for the music.

  • @danielrc14

Amen! I personally prefer this kind of music but it's not everyone's opinion!

People think they are better than others for loving ''old'' music, but that's as worse as saying ''Justin bieber is better than everyone.''

That's ridiculous. There is no bad music. There are only different opinions.

  • @Naessly I applaud you for being one of the VERY few to think this. I share your same point of view.

  • @Naessly Exactly :)

  • PROG ROCKKKKKKK!! This was one of the songs that developed Prog Rock.

  • There is someone who can explain the lyrics?

  • I'm planned to be born in 5 months and i love this!

    good song!!

  • I am still in the womb and I listen to this... does this mean I win?

  • May Stephen King have been inspired by this song to write The Dark Tower and Insomnia ??? I guess so...

  • @blaze2010x 13 here, that's pretty much the same thing I posted to a Stairway video a while back. Singers now can't have a normal concert because all of their voices are computerized.

This song is just so amazing. Thank you King Crimson!

  • the fact that this video only has 25000 views is a great American tragedy.

  • some say this is the first progressive rock album. maybe but i think there was alot of progressie stuff going on in 1969. perhaps this one was one of the more popular albums. what about focus? they were in the late 60s. i think mahavishnu was recording before crimson, but that's fusion, yes crimson is more rock than progressive in that sense. reminded me of the moody blues right off the bat, undoubtedly this is an extrapolation of their sound. the voice especially. synthesizers!

  • @up2space There were no real synths back then. They used a Mellotron.

  • @pointlessgames Sure there were, lots of them. The use of Mellotron was a mere choice.

  • Great song, dark and serene. I wouldnt mind walking through the court of the crimson king.

  • This is something beyond a song

  • Is this guy not one of thee best vocalists?

  • amazing... my life has obviously been missing King Crimson

  • I don't get it this sucks dick.

  • @SwineFluInCompany I didn't expect YOU to get it.

  • @SwineFluInCompany Well, then you must feel right at home. ZING!

  • I'm 15, my dad showed me this music. I fucking love this stuff.

  • by the way king crimson is kind of a dark band but some songs are still pretty good and are talented

  • You guys are DICKS! and there is a little good music out there today. But TECHNO is not music it is GARBAGE anything without instruments is not music. Really we cant argue though because it is a matter of opinion but to be mean to a 14 year old kid about it is messed up

  • Why Would we give a shit if your 14 and Autistic ?

Thee only artists I could see which are good or decent are Iron Maiden, Jimi Hendrix and Bob Marley.

I am open to almost all music, maybe you are a bit harsh with ( New Music sucks and/or know what real music is )

Dubstep is a good form of music when perfected like, Black Metal, Depressing Metal, Hiphop, Rhythm and Blues ( Billie Holiday etc ) and Hz frequency music like the 528 Hz Frequency.

  • @LucifersDisciple6

Even though i agree that we don't give a shit if someone is 14 and autistic, YOU are being harsh. If you are saying that only good bands that you can see are Iron Maiden, Hendrix and Bob Marley, then you better get your eyes checked because you can't see for shit. Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Cream, Fleetwood Mac, The Who, Pink Floyd... if it weren't for these bands, rock-metal genres may have never been born.

  • this is better than the music today!

  • this song is blatantly Satanic! The "Crimson King" = Satan!!

  • @shaun3701 for your brilliant deduction, you receive the "everyone already knew that" award- anything you'd like to say to your family?

  • This song is as beautiful as carter is bold

  • What is the name of this album?

  • @RodrigoZGodinho In the court of the Crimson King

  • This song is so awesome LOL I just had to come and find it on youtube

  • Still gives me goosebumps.

  • Still gives me goosebumps

  • those were the dys of true creativity in rr

  • no dislikes

  • I want 60's music back everywhere!

  • every time i keep favoriting this GREAT epic song, the YT police keep taking this down. :(

  • ill ooo man ah ti

  • Strangely enough, The Crimson King is a Stephen King character from the Dark Tower series. But that was after the 70's.

  • i got a king crimson discography, and the ONLY album that wasn't there was in the court of the crimson king =(

  • i lov even more from @7:18

  • It is so easy to get lost in this music isn't it?

  • aixelsyd ym eruc ot hguone doog tsomla si tihs siht

  • This is the first time I hear this band & I'm so impressed!

  • its awesome when people my age, 14, discover this kind of music. stuff from 30-40 years ago is much better than the majority of stuff thats released these days. this music uses real voices and real instruments, nowadays its all autotuned, techno instrument crap.

  • @blaze2010x You're not alone here. I'm 15 and love this song.

  • @blaze2010x 14 here. I don't listen to an enormous bunch of older music, however I am a huge fan of David Bowie, Tears for Fears, Led Zeppelin, Queen and Jimi Hendrix :D

  • @blaze2010x liked that comment up til you said techno crap. thats like saying when the electric guitar was 1st introduced it was crap. Techno has been around for a long time now by the way.. 20-30 years by now or more.

  • @blaze2010x

Oh Love, I'm so glad a "child" of your age can appreciate this music. The first time I heard this song was in the late 70's. It was old then, and I was young (14 or there about) I loved it then and still do now. Age is relative.

  • @blaze2010x Hey now, don't bash techno instruments. Music is about harmony, the instruments just need to be used right.
