i believe it can take an 18 inch, but the actual loco couldve only taken the equivelent of an ho 40 inch. lol quite an overhang and a blasting sound!

The big boy of Athearn was able to pass a radius of 490mm(=19inch).

It is a radius at the minimum.

I do not have the track of 18 inch.

but I think that it is dangerous.

i found an old big boy at my train club. it was at the bottom of a box full of old steamers that was put aside. those old bastards wont let me take it home, fix it up and install a dcc chip in it so it can run on the track! i tested it and for a piece of junk it runs like new...

Personally i would like to Hook this up with a 4-6-6-4 Challenger and see how much they could pull together.

I tried that and they could pull about 150 cars up a 2% grade. Bigboy = 70. Challenger = 80. But the allegheny is the best of them all =]

Now that is the most wonderful train set i have ever seen! Those cars are awesome! Everything was shiny! nothing came off the track! perfect camera working! great sounds! I have 2 steam locomotives and 2 diesel. i have a couple of questions. Is it the flexible kind, like the one with the wheels that turn and twist, but the body just sticks out. does it have smoke. how often does it flip off the track. and how fast would it go with no cars and 5 cars, becuase i have 5 cars so far.

that train can pull close to 50 HO size cars

It is fast. But they are more than 40 cars, and an uphill slope is slow.

I have not tried the smoke.
