  • Stop Complain about triggers...

You even wont be able to do it...with trigger or without..Longstreth isnt human.STICK THIS IN YOUR FUCKIN ASS.

Trigger Are amazing used in the right way...as He does...and many others...like haake..Yeung..Kollias...Inferno.....

All these guys Have something Called Technique....Years and YEARS OF PLAYING.

Take your bass drum and play instead of post shit here.

  • triggers are for pussies. Period.

  • Double strokes are really hard but I still think its cheating.

  • @Villex93 Cheating? I didn't know there were "rules". Can you enlighten me, what are those rules? Use the tools and techniques at your disposal to achieve a good sound. Using doublestrokes means he could play even faster. He said himself that he kinda had to start using doublestrokes only to keep up with the guitarists' insane speeds and could'nt care less that people call it cheating cause he didn't start playing metal to follow rules.

  • @rekleoa Well, it just feels little bit like cheating, I don't really seriously think so. What you said makes sense and I understand that he maybe had to use double strokes. But it's not the traditional way and when people talk about double bass it's basically always single strokes. I personally wouldn't even go that far that I had to use double strokes.

  • Saying double strokes on the kicks is cheating shows a complete lack of understanding. You go do it! Show us how EASY and how much of a cheater way of playing double bass it is! Fools.

If you think economy of motion is cheating, you must not be a drummer or know NOTHING about drumming!

  • what's the name of the song at the begining??

  • wow, actually made a huge noticeable mistake during the solo..

  • When John started doing doubles he sounds like a different drummer. Less comfortable, I guess he still getting used to it. I thought his heels down style was awesome, and I have to admit, I miss seeing him play heels down.

  • saw origin last weekend. john twisted his ankle a day before. it didn't fucking stop him.

  • Comment removed

  • @natepogue holy hell dude, i can't believe i have to explain this to you... i said james LEE, as is the vocalist. james KING was the drummer. james LEE was better than KEYSER, as in jason keyser, THE NEW VOCALIST! of course longstreth is a better drummer. james king only played the drums for like 4 years before recording echoes of decimation. but i didn't say anything about james king, i said james LEE. i can hear jason's vocals in the background and it just sounds like skinless

  • @natepogue damn dude, make sure you know what you're saying before you embarrass yourself. twat

  • Damn! It's so cool

  • WTF is going on with those light-speed double strokes ?

Is he using heel-toe technique on both legs ? His feet don't even look moving that fast

  • @Misawa59 Yeah. HAS to be heel-toe.

  • @Misawa59 Yeah, heel-toe. If your shin muscles can keep up, it's a LOT easier than single strokes thanks to your legs moving in half time.

  • @zgates i don't know that it's easier - it is almost totally different. in some ways the 'easier' comes from feeling more balanced. you legs are big muscles that do well to keep something simple-ish up for a long time, rather than quick intricate deft movements. heel-toe doubles with triggs definitely supports that and it is great fun, 'riding' the bass drum: the hard part is the threshold of when to switch from singles into double strokes, because playin'em slowly, evenly, is so near impossible

  • @Misawa59 It's the same principle as heel toe, But he does it more toe-toe. or maybe leg-ankle type thing. His heel doesn't drop all that much like it would if it were heel toe. I think he described it once as being, the first stroke he's pulling toes up a little and second forcing them down. Said it took him 3-4 hours every day of practicing doubles for about 4 months to get it down. We'd all be that good if we put that kind of time in.

  • @ fuck1nmetal - yeah bro actually i can. For one song. No way could i hold up for an entire set. And my arms, they suck. Also i was drunk when i posted that comment lol. All-toe is only good for recording really, or jamming. To blast an entire live set in front of an audience you need more variation in your technique or else your legs start to lag.

  • @stal666 lol.

im working on heavy speed blast while keep relaxing...but need a lot of time...and practice..

  • with mics ,a drummer can make mistakes and a person in the crowd won't notice it,but with triggers -the drummer must be fukkin on time, the other problem is -with mics a person wont really the bass and snare drum(s) because a bass drum tends to fade out or if the drummer prefers mics, there better be a really good sound engineer .

  • who cares if a drummer uses triggers? thats like complaining that a guitar player uses amps...

you think an acoustic guitar could make those sounds or be that loud?

    derp.

  • damn the bass drum hits are fucking sloppy

  • @luisluvsblastbeats54 what the fuck are you saying? this is Origin, that's the most accurate possible you'll get.

  • Heel toe god right here

  • Sickest foot technique

  • There is nothing to be learned from argument of over triggers. forget it. the only legit problem with mad drummers is that fine line between drumwank and sick beat. you need so much more than just speed. take for example trym, from norwegian side of things. he's not the fastest blaster there is but what makes him superior over suprising number of of metal drummers is that he understands what the song in question needs, and he provides it. he understands the groove.

  • @somberlight

I agree with you and thats why Gene Hoglan and Neil Peart are my two favorite drummers. There are a lot of good DM drummers that don't just rely on speed with the double bass and machine like blastbeats though.

The same wankery issue exists with guitar and bass players as well. There are bands that fucking rape their instruments, but can't write good music. Origin stuff is very mechanical, but complex and catchy too. Its not just pieced together random riffs.

  • @Juggernaut76 You should check out Jamie Saint Merat.

  • @zgates

I have heard him before. He is really good as well, but for some reason I cannot get into the band Ulcerate. Not really sure why. Its good enough, but it doesnt grab me or ever make me want to listen to them like Augury or Agalloch does. If you can compare them at all.

  • mladimajstor told the truth, even a 3 yrs old child could understand that.

Those who says the opposite simply deserve to be shot in the head

  • Comment removed

  • I can double kick faster than this using all-toe, and i am the worst drummer on earth. Ever. Arguing about triggers is ghey.

  • @stal666 ye....

U can double kick fast than Longstreth...

    Then u wake up

  • the two things metal fans REALLY care about: fighting about sub-genres and fighting about triggers.

  • @Caminacels Oh so fucking true!

  • @Caminacels funny thing is, they're usually all wrong

  • @Caminacels one more: who is better!!! (especially when we're talking about drummers..)

  • fuck they came to reno?!?! DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!!

  • if you can cheat like him . until then shut your mouth, idiot!!!

  • Oh the trigger argument.miadimajstor has hit the nail on the head. The trigger is mimicking the individual stroke its not giving you an extra hit for free unless it is mistriggering.Without triggers for this style of music it would be a mess.

  • again triggers are for sound, not for speed.

  • @zachf914 Triggers are for sound, so for speed because if you hit your drums with less power, you can play faster

  • @zachf914 Some People are too stupid to understand this...

  • double stroke foot patterns..... wowwwwwwwww he is a machine.....!!!

  • Comment removed

  • it'S so fucking unbelievable !!!!!! BIG LOVE !

  • Comment removed

  • double stroke foot patterns is more complicated to master thats why knowone busts em,but constant through a whole song or probly most is just minatonouse.with all that talent he should keep the same time but break down the underlying kick pattern, more complicated and more listenable,my balls smell like a rotten duck fart.

  • fuck this guy is fast. ridiculous...and i cant believe people are still having arguements over drummers using triggers, and double strokes with their feet...

  • Just let people say triggers are cheating, they're just jealous of the drummers who go so fast they need em, and wish so deeply they could be there one day, but know somewhere deep down it will never happen to those who are dicks.

  • I saw these guys in Denver and this guy is a for real technical drummer

  • It's not heel toe, it's a flat foot technique. A bit harder to learn and maintain steadily than "normal" heel/toe. But its extremely effective.

  • Doublestrokes McGee over here....

  • i always think he shows his much better performance in live than CDs.

  • whats the song playing at the beginning of this sick drummer clip??

  • its not heel-toe, its the same technique as THOMAS LANG its double strokes on each leg only difference is that he's practiced it a lot and you can pretty much say "perfected" it for those type of tempos

and also.............. THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO CHEAT WITH TRIGGERS ARE THE ONES THAT KEEP THE BEATER 2 INCHES AWAY FROM THE DRUM HEAD AND NEVER GET A FULL STROKE ON THE BASS DRUM THATS CHEATING!!!.......but anyways awesome drummer pretty brutal chops he's got going on

  • The Chuck Norris of technical death metal drumming.

  • it's heel toe technique. it's basically a double hit with each foot. so it looks slow, but the beater actually hits twice with one swipe.

  • can some1 explain to me when John is playing 32th notes it seems like he's playing more slower like 8th notes:S

  • @IIHellraiserII He uses a technique hitting RR LL

  • @williebob1234 so it doesn't need edurance to do 32 th notes at double bass it's kinda like cheating for me dunno

  • @IIHellraiserII How the hell is it cheating playing double strokes?

  • @JonasOfSweden The point is that i haven't seen double strokes on bass drum and i maybe made a fast conclusion, definatelly i don't blame him but it seems he is doing 8th notes anyways i won't discuss this ferthermore for example i prefer Trey Williams the good old fashioned.

    Cheers mates

  • so much control switching his doubles and singles. I wish i was as cool as john -_-

  • Everybody on here saying you can't hear his feet without the triggers...it's already been proven he is just as clean without them so GTFO.

  • will you have sex with my girl friend john

  • unbelievable.

I'm so happy I shook hands with this guy.

And great thanks to the methods of Mike Mangini.

  • He use heel-toe? :O

  • If you have ever seen an Origin show, you would know that he hits the bass drums fucking hard still and can hear them clearly when he is warming up. If you're a shitty drummer, triggers will make you sound even more shitty.

  • watch and learn kids. /watch?v=Vm0VxEjLHP4

    good raw double bass

  • @watchyourst3p loooooooooool. did you upload it?

  • Comment removed

  • wont be able to hear shit without triggers.hes just little tapping the drumbass.

im gonna go watch some morbid angel for some good raw metal double bass drumming.

  • John Longstreth, the human Fast Forward.

  • No, you can pick up the kick sound at crazy tempos...go watch dave lombardo videos, he's never used triggers and he flew!!

  • @ottawadrummer Yeah Lombardo played fast but is he doing double strokes?

  • @dutchoven138 No, singles, but that doesn't really matter, doubles are probably more solid sounding on a natural bass drum anyway. John has developed a technique that is designed for modern technology, so his legs/ankles are built for heel/toe technique, Lombardo was just a beast and muscled his way through.

  • The guitar solo sounds like complete shit.

  • also I want to watch this guy playing Consequence of Solution

  • im impressed with this guy he plays in a super fast speed and he's super relaxed :O

  • Comment removed

  • I think they have to make John's snare skin out of cells cloned from Chuck Norris! That thing must take a beatin every single night!

  • 4:17 he is like "do you get it?"

  • I'm tired of idiots that don't know what double stroke technique is! This is a variation of the typical heel-toe technique, it's done with the toe to the toes. is a clean double stroke with each foot. done 1+e, when put together with the other foot you get the 2+e, when played together you get the 32 nd note feel. Tim waterson uses something he created called "the pump" that's actually the same motion but trying to put before the "e" of every double stroke, the first stroke of the other foot.

  • @sergioarochadrums that's the reason tim reaches like 1447 strokes in his DVD in one minute. It takes hard work to develop the technique, specially from your shin muscle, but once you develop heel-toe you'll be able to understand how the technique works. Don't underestimate double strokes, cause if you're looking for speed, you can reach higher tempos with this technique with less effort. if you look for control, you can do stuff that with single strokes would be imposible to do!

  • Respond to this video... For all of the stupid people that thinks double strokes, direct drive pedals, triggers etc... is cheating. then you are a bunch of assholes that dont know shit! for me cheating is using those quad pedals or the dualist pedal, cause you are not making any motion that controls the second stroke. again, this is not the case, john does each and every one of them strokes you listen in the video. plus take a look of all the distance that the beater goes way back, that's power.

  • Comment removed

  • GREAT FILMING DUDE!!!, "sickdrummerdotcom" did it again...

  • Heel-Toe-Blasts wtf

  • I say even if he would use a quadriple pedal on both his feet...

THERE IS NO CHEATING in music...

You play what you want and it might sound good to someone or not.

But cheating? Seriously... most of the guys complaining about how they not get his technique wouldn't be able to play this song even if John played the bassdrum for you... =P

  • lolololol you idiots, why the fuck would their be a footcam if he was "cheating"? Use your brains...

  • What pedals does he use?

  • @Blastrebation Pearl Demon Drive I believe.

  • ALSO, SAYING THAT "USING TRIGGERS IS CHEATING" IS COMPLETELY RETARDED AND POINTLESS. AT THOSE INSANE TEMPOS, IT'S ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO MAINTAIN SAME INTENSITY OF THE HIT... ALSO, THE BASS DRUM IS ALWAYS PUSHING AIR OUT THROUGH THE MIC HOLE, SO ON A HIGH TEMPO, BASS DRUM HITS BECOME INAUDIBLE DUE TO ALL THAT AIR BEING PUSHED THOWARDS THE MIC. TRIGGERS ARE JUST LIKE AN AMPLIFIER FOR THE BASS DRUM... SO IF TRIGGERING IS CHEATING, PLAYING AN ELECTRIC GUITAR (OR BASS) PRACTICALLY IS ALSO CHEATING...

  • @mladimajstor i totally agree!!Hellhammer also told me once that with triggers the audience can hear even the smallest mistake and this the biggest disadvantage of using triggers!

  • @mladimajstor thanks, finally a decent point on triggers

  • @mladimajstor -Exactly, plus on top of this. You'd be surprised how hard some of these guys actually do hit even though they are playing this fast. Saying triggers (or double strokes for that matter) is cheating is just a lame excuse for the guys who can't pull this shit off in the first place, WITH or WITHOUT triggers. On top of that, throw some triggers on your kicks for the first time and find out how tight your playing really is. Cause you and the crowd will hear EVERYTHING.

  • @Grindtechnician Triggers will blow your fucking mind when you hear how off your timing is. It's really something. Also, if you're like John and heel-toe playing at these speeds on one kick drum, your options are basically to use triggers or have your bass drum sound like a mush.

  • @zgates Yeah man, that's what I was saying. Been triggering for years now. I got tired of playing shows with shitty sound and not having my double bass heard. Now I just say, here ya go man. Plug this in and turn it up. Check out my vids. Got some foot cam on the last vid. No where near this dude but it's pretty tight.

  • @Grindtechnician 100% true

  • @Grindtechnician Thats fucking right! If you play base trigger first time you will find out how hard it is to play tight with triggers.

In my opinion triggers doesn't make you better only a better sound!

    Cheers

  • @Grindtechnician Well said.

  • @mladimajstor so funny, I said the exact thing you typed like 5 years ago like everything you just wrote hahahha

  • JOHN IS NOT CHEATING... FIRST OF ALL, HE'S PLAYING DOUBLE STROKES - RR LL. WATCH CLOSELY ON THE MOVEMENT OF THE PEDAL PLATE AND CAM - IT'S A BIT HARD TO NOTICE (BECAUSE OF THE POOR LIGHTING AND MOSTLY BECAUSE OF INSANE SPEED) BUT YOU CAN SEE THAT IT MOVES TWICE EVEN IF HIS FEET LOOK LIKE THEY'RE PLAYING SINGLES... ALSO, TYPE STUFF LIKE "DOUBLE STROKES ON BASS DRUM" ON YOUTUBE SEARCH AND YOU'LL FIND SOME GREAT VIDEOS ON VARIOUS DOUBLE STROKE TECHNIQUES...

  • his streth... it's so long

  • @Corrosive1 no one man should have all that streth

  • @Norther219 whatever streth is, this man has it

  • 9 people think lol, j0rdis0n is f4ster.

  • its not bad but it sounds more like nile/behemoth than origin :\

  • some people should really inform themselves about techniques before posting shit

  • Oh and if u try to use the excuse of heel to toe kicks... ur wrong again.. ive seen origin live 7 times. chilled with them and gave them buds. I know what he uses=]

  • lol to all u retards who think i am blind... i know the 3rd pedal is for the hi-hat.... if u had any musical education u would know that there is something called "effects" each single stroke on his bass pedal simulates 2 echoes without sound supression..... therego each pedal is 3 kicks. so he has to time them just right... and if u watch closely... he is not doing R R L..... its alll R L R L... der da derrrrrr. ive been playing bass guitar for 10 years and have seen much more then u...

  • Comment removed

  • @AxeStar89 Then when do I hear 2 strokes and not 3? And I guess he just turns off these "effects" when he does single strokes ..

  • @AxeStar89 Bass for 10 years means nothing if u can't grasp the concept that he uses double strokes, his legs move in half the time his beaters are moving.

  • @AxeStar89 Nope its heel toe....

  • OMG

i dont even realize how he's doing that straight double bass..

i mean, he plays it so relaxed you can't even see the motion oO

    insane

  • John Longstreth does practice. Nobody can do this within a year or two, also John had to practice for hours if not years. Key is to not practice too fast, rather boring slow. Don't be too hasty, thats all I can say. + boring as hell. Did I mention that? |. | |_________ Source: When he still had his own website I was lucky enough to read some good pointers on his forum in terms of practice.
  • Utter insanity

  • Awesome song ! Best on the album definitely ! And John is a killer !

  • What pedals does he use actually?

  • Just trolling around until he said Reno; realized i was there that night. Fucking amazing show. Then everyone left and Hate Eternal played to probably 12 diehards.

    \m/

  • Makes me laugh people saying his cheating. John is playing RR LL RR LL which is why his feet look like they are moving at half the speed his playing.

  • he is a good drummer but can anyone explain me how he just hit the pedal twice and it sound like 4???!!

he does a 4 time split time and the sound is like 8 times!

i am not lying you just have to see the right buttom camera.... and count it!

  • It is soo lame to hear all those fucktards saying he is cheating and shit. None of those assholes could fucking hit clean 180 bpm with or without triggers not even 260 like jl. So stupid to hear guys bashing on his playing and making stupid excuses about triple trigger bullshit; it's called practice dumbasses!

  • i thought there was a fan blowing his hair but it is actually his blasts and double bass.

  • Please watch George Kollias' video for the song "Laying Fire Upon Apep".. thats real double bass. with 1 footed blast beats. I'm done.

  • jdmimport13... if u knew anything about music you would know that he is using an electronic triple bass... i stood in front row in chicago and watched him set it up.. he is most definetly cheating. each drum kick makes 3 triggers... So before you make yourself sound like an even bigger fool.... do some research and go to a fucking origin concert and see for yourself =]..

  • @AxeStar89 He's doing doubles man, not cheating.. The "triple" setup you saw has to do with the hi-hat and double bass pedal, not 3 triggers for the bass drum.

  • @AxeStar89 Yeah he is definitely not "cheating" in any way. The man just has fast feet, there are some videos on Youtube that have a better view of the bass pedals and whatnot.

  • @AxeStar89 You are a moron. He has two cable hi-hats, one of which is to the left of his left pedal, and the other is to the right of the pedal. So he has 3 pedals at his left foot, but only one of them is an actual bass drum pedal, and if you tell me I'm lying, fuck off, I've spoken to the guy he took lessons from a couple years back (Mike Heller), who told me the exact same thing.

Fucking shit. Are you even a drummer? Cretin. Go back to playing your BTM wankcore.

  • the only thing about John that is disappointing... is that triple bass..... cheater.. learn from George Kollias. But John is truly amazing just a little upset about that cheater triple bass bs!!!

  • @AxeStar89 Wow dude, really? Triple bass? Watch any video that shows his feet, and you'll only see 2 beaters. He does doubles. I'll quote YOU yourself and say, "before you make yourself sound like an even bigger fool..." I'm just going to assume you don't play drums. It makes it more understandable that you would think he's using something other than double strokes. It irks me that you would actually say to someone, "If you knew anything about music", and then be wrong. Ouchhhhh.

  • Isn't this guys double bass technique like this? R R L L instead of R L R L? That's what I've heard from a buddy of mine that ran their sound on their 2010 tours.

  • @jdmimport13 R R L L

  • fix the song title pls :)

  • It's insane how this guy can be this calm when drumming songs like this.

  • I want to see this guy on Discovery channel's "Time warp" show :D

  • this drummer is cheating somehow.

The feet cam doesn't match whats being played either he has duellist pedals or he's cheating using by using triggers

  • @BloodHasBeenShed86 Hahahahahahahaha CHEATING on a drumset ??? HOW??? Duellist Pedal hahahah man whats wrong with you...hes sponsert by PEARL he use the DEMONDRIVE and he plays clear doublestrokes...

  • @BloodHasBeenShed86 he is using triggers but it isnt cheating you dumbass

  • Comment removed

  • @BloodHasBeenShed86 Obviously you don't know this guys technique. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but Im pretty sure he plays his double bass like this. R R L L instead of R L R L. Dude has mastered his own technique so this guy pretty much owns any drummer as far as double bass goes. How's that for cheating? I'd do some research before making yourself out to look like a fool.

  • @jdmimport13 that was a friend of mine drunk who i showed the video to. im a long time fan of origin and i think its hilarious you have nothing better to do than to respond to this. and he does play with triggers. not that that means cheating but its definetly easier to maintain retarded speeds. clownshoes

  • @BloodHasBeenShed86 Well you said using triggers was cheating. Now you don't? Of course using triggers makes it easier to maintain clean consistent hits at increased speeds. That's kinda the whole point. And for the record it's not that I have anything better to do, being that it takes 90 seconds to type this message out, but it's more of an enjoyment of mine belittling other people that obviously lack in the intelligence department. Don't get mad at me because your not smart, get mad at mommy.

  • seven gays votos

  • @MBeroose yep

  • george is better imo

  • The only person that MATCHES his skill is Chuck Norris, but that's only because Chuck Norris created John Longstreth.

  • problem with the technique is that without triggers, it sounds like soft goat plops.

  • Jeden z lepszych metalowych palkerow. Zapierdala jak samochodzik :) Technicznie nie do wyjebania :)

  • "Reno, really?..." haha get on Origins level Reno!

  • john is king

ive seen origin live and watching John L. is truly amazing!

  • john is king

  • ok, i think John is faster than himself...

  • Does he have 2 pedals but with 4 things hiting ?

  • @SinjikuAoD no. he just uses standard Pearl Demon Drive pedals.

  • @SinjikuAoD He's using a technique called Heel-Toe. You hit once on the downstroke and again on the upstroke so its pretty much 2 hits with one fluid motion.

  • @bloodshotneo I think it sdouble strokes dude.

  • @EdgeStormcrow lol thats what i said. Its basically 1 motion with 2 hits. 2 hits would be a double stroke. Look at the motion of his leg. I comes down and he hits with his toe on the second stroke. The best example of his single stroke is on the slower double bass parts.

  • its retarded how easy he makes it look

  • Can I have this stamina, please?

  • those heel-toe kicks are cool
