my 2001 honda civic now has 200,000 miles and im still holding hope subaru will bring a boxer diesel AWD to the USA before im forecd to buy another gasser! VW is not a option as a friends jetta sportwagon lost a turbo and vw would not cover it.
Shame indeed. Why the hell not? What will it take for the Boxer Diesel to make it here, eh? It gets better gas mileage than its similar boxer gasoline engine. It provides more low-end torque than the gasoline boxer. It doesn't make sense that it's not allowed here in this country, where fuel economy is becoming more and more imperative.
I'd love to see the Boxer Diesel engine here in the USA and Canada. Imagine the possibilities. Besides the Outback, the Forester and, possibly the Impreza, I can see the VW Vanagon Diesel with a boxer diesel engine as a good alternative engine.
It would be interesting to see how economical these engines are. It's been a long time coming for Subaru to develop their own diesel. A flat four diesel?......WOW.
this is scary if u read this this far u will die in 10 days if u dont send to any 15 videos in 2 hours good luck hope u dont die !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've always liked Subarus. My mum and stepdad drives an 06 Outback. I've driven it a few times and I love driving it! With its boxer engine and lower centre of gravity, it's easier to drive than anything else. I can't wait to see the new Boxer Diesel engine to make it to North America. With the dual benefits of boxer engine configuration and diesel, any vehicle in which a boxer diesel engine can fit would definitely benefit. It's too bad diesel prices are so damned expensive in the US!
yes and no.....................the main reason subaru calls it the boxer engine is the engine block itself......................unlike conventional inline or v-block engines, it is more similar to porsche's flat block configuration.
diesel fuel is thicker and produces more power per pound of fuel than gasoline. therefore, a diesel engine does not have to work as hard to generate power. furthermore, since diesel is thicker, it can also act as an additional lubricant to complement the motor oil being used, thus aiding in the engine lasting longer................. that's why diesel is the engine of choice for many commercial/heavy duty vehicles/trucks. now it's catching on in passenger vehicles.
yup, 148 horses, but it is a 240+ lb/ft Torque. typical for all diesel engines, they have less horsepower (important for top speed cruising) but WAY more torque (important for acceleration and zipping through the traffic). ugh and the mpg ratings should be way high, like ~38/40 mpg. for a subaru thats totally awesome... all their gas engines are ~25/28 mpg.
since it gets 40 a gallon in a fast 4wd package it looks better than any other sedan on the market as it is a perfect balance of performance, economy and reliability.
its only 148 horse power right..!!? then per gallon between $3 to 5 for the diesel it will be go around 36 to 40,43 in the city and highways and diesel cars are not cheep either right..!!?then y we don't use small gas cars?civic, prius, echo there is lot of cars in the market now. gas prices less than diesel and maintenance too well think about it guys
maybe storage we can consider that but 148 horse power legacy or Vw jetta Tdi take to off road i can't even imagine about that hehe '' we need to change our luxurious life style to depend with economy'' other wise nothing else is going to be work out
I used to work for chrysler, and I asked why there weren't any diesel hybrids...the guy's eyes lit up at my question, but then reality settled in, and he answered that management thought diesel and hybrid were too much for the stupid american consumer to handle at one shot....But american car companies dont really even have viable diesel pass cars coming...and we all know honda, nissan and subi are eagerly eyeing an opening in the market, so they can once again prove their superiority in the USA
us north americans (canada and usa) are a very stupid. we could have more diesels here if the greater of the population would desire them. And diesel could be more conveniantly available as the demands rise for the fuel. Instead, the idea of a diesel is smelly, noisey, not as conveniant as gas, and more slugish. When in fact all of these points have changed in diesel engines. Lets wake up america!!!! we are smarter than this.
Diesel gets better gas mileage. i had a nissan 240sx and was getting about 18mpg. and i now have a dodge ram2500 I6 turbo diesel. and am getting 20mpg.
I know that, but in Connecticut diesel costs $4.45 per gallon in some areas so it is not worth it for me.
But premium gas costs 3.49 per gallon.
My father drives a 2005 Chevy Suburban Z71 and he was think about getting a diesel engine installed but for use it is not worth it we stick to premium gas.
I've got Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDI(140bhp) and I get 50mpg. What a difference. At a minute 1 liter or diesel cost here in UK £1.14 petrol £1.08 but with much better consumption you'll get your money back. I bet if fuel would cost in US that much as in Europe your people would swap all them petrol burning cars for diesel. In Europe diesel outsell petrol I think 60 to 40%. But wise americans soon will be buying diesels...
You can't buy what they don't sell. I'm keeping my 1985 Mazda 626 because there is not as efficent a diesel offered. Even damn Honda will not bring in the diesel civic. You can't import them as it is against the law. People want them now as the few used ones are priced high.
Your a fool my friend who needs to get back to school for some math classes :p Plus Midwest is full of Bio that is cheaper then regular unleaded... I drive an 06 XT Turbo now but if Subaru does not bring this to the US my next ride is the new Honda diesel coming this year to the US :)
only thing missing is good fuel economy, and this is what we want.

The fuel consumption of my Outback diesel is about 6.0-6.4 l/100km. Make yourself the transformation in mpg if you need it.

do they call it a boxer engine cuz the pistons look like 2 sets of fists boxing each other?

simply, yes that is why it's called a boxer engine, because the pistons move in motion just like a boxer's fists.

It's not only "similar" its the same basic blueprint. And the STi Engine is a 4 cyl 1 turbo version of the Turbo's 6 TT....

You mean, if Americans realize that diesel is not the black-cloud smoking machines they once were you'll be picking one up.

True, plus diesel in the USA is still about $0.75 cents more a gallon

Engine type: Horizontally opposed 4-cylinder DOHC 16-valve turbo diesel
Displacement: 1998cc
Max power: 110kW (150hp) @ 3600rpm
Max torque: 350Nm @ 1800rpm
CO2 emissions: 148g/km (Legacy sedan)
Fuel injection system: Common rail type
Turbocharger: Variable nozzle turbocharger
Not exactly sure if they are 100% up to date and correct for the production car.

diesel costs more than gas so it would be stupid to buy a turbo diesel engine instead of a gas one.
