  • Musicians try different ways of changing their music.., Gary is a very innovative performer. His old is brilliant, his recent stuff is brilliant. NIN is an extension of Gary. Trent does his own original stuff as well.

  • stop with the NIN comparisons. there is no fucking Nine inch nails without gary numan. just ask Trent.

  • I saw this show in Detroit and believe me, there was no lip synching involved. As to Ade Fenton's keyboard playing.. he is as competent as Chris Payne or any previous Numan keysmen.

  • This track is AWESOME live, and I have been a fan of Numan's since the late 1970's. However, This habit of playing to a BACKING TRACK is out of order. Pendulum do it all the time and it was evident Numan is at it as I saw him this last weekend. The guitar player AND the bass player only play 'live' on the odd occasion, and I have serious doubts about the keyboard players, who are shrowded in the dark for the whole gig. GREAT gig though ....

  • All the electronics are on backing track. His current keyboard players aren't good enough.

  • @fromathrone wrong wrong wrong. there are too many layers for a handful of guys to play. gary has already commented on this. look it up.

  • @CooganMusic there has to be pre recorded tracks. gary has already commented on this. find it on you tube

  • no,i think thatabathroomwall has a point.he IS gary numan, and as such a new look each new tour,if only a small one, would refresh his image.

  • I'm seeing Numan in Melbourne in March 09. Sadly it will be NIN poses and the industrial sound he is going for to keep the kiddies entertained ! I just wish Gazza would go back to making music that was ahead of the pack instead of following them. I'm not asking him to return to his older sounds, but find a sound of his own again !

  • "old cold robotic stage persona" ? You really haven't kept up have you ...

  • Look I'm a big fan of this guy but any honest Numan fan can see he's trying to be Trent Reznor as far as his stage craft is concerned.

  • Gza sampled this on Life's A Movie off of his album Protools.

  • Just by watching this video... Ive now bought 2 albums of garys... "GARY NUMAN, THE PLEASURE PRINCIPLE" SERIAL NO : (BBL 10 CD) ALSO "TUBEWAY ARMY, REPLICAS" SERIAL NO. (BBL 7CD) Who said you tube killed the music trade? Good luck gary, ive always been a fan.

  • I saw this tour, I wore a tie, Gary wore a t-shirt.

  • He seriously needs to reintroduce his old cold robotic stage persona which was one of the reasons a lot of fans connected with the music becuase it essentially made him an extention of the music.

As someone else said the headbanging is silly!

  • @JRHartly1984 at least say 'in my opinion' before you say the headbanging is silly . it is your OPINION . i happen to like the headbanging. he does what he wants to do.

  • First saw Numan 26 years ago in London - Awesome stuff, amazing performance. Seeing him in concert again March 2008 Brighton - can't wait - hope it will live up to my expectations!

  • NUMAN ROCKS.

  • Numan never lip syncs & never did that's bull I saw him live on this tour in Philadelphia I was right up against the stage. He was fantastic I also had the pleasure of meeting him after the show a little later that evening! :)

  • Numan never sings the high parts of the Pure or Jagged choruses...they are all on backing track. Believe me, I know.

And he should try dressing like a rock star again instead of looking like he going to wash the car.

  • Good point. Trent Reznor dressed like that almost a decade ago, and his car is spotless !

  • bearing in mind of his age, high notes at nearly 50 are an impossibility...but by god he can "wash my car any time" lol

  • numan numan numan

  • If you've ever seen him Live.. He's playing to anyone in a small pub in London. It's extraordinary to watch him. He's one of the most " feeling " performers I've ever seen. I love him for what he's done for us.

  • he sounds as good now as he always has done, but the headbanging has got to go,it drives me nuts,my pet hate and not cool,he is NUMAN nuff said

  • KInd of agree on that one, I still prefer his cold robot-like images from the aerly days.

  • Well, when i saw Gary In Arizona last year, i was close enough to him onstage that i could his the volume of his real voice coming through just as loud as the p.a. since i was forward of the P.A. stack, Plus, with a good shot-gun mic, you can back off up to 6 feet or more when doing loud vocals and it picks up your voice as fine as 2-3 inches away! So if he lip-synchs, it's not too often!

  • nothing jebbyblobby you arse

  • Go for it Gary Webb!

  • qonfused,i think you might be right.ya got good eyes ,old boy.!!

  • Awesome song.

  • love numan but his movements at 2:40 are kinda silly-looking. wish he would get off of the "stripped-down, t-shirt, head banging" kick and go back to his "stoic, robotic costume-wearing" days.

  • Well I know what you mean but some how it might not work now as it did when he first come out back then there was only Kraftwerk that went in for the machine music type gestures then Ultravox with John Foxx and then Gary Numan and David Bowie very few others where doing it back in 1979, 1980 So I understand what you mean about the headbanging stuff but I think he thinks it is time to move on from that

  • i dont like to say this but he looks like he is miming-as his voice continues after he takes the mike away.now i know that mikes are sensitive but this is rather telling.

  • That's just some Youtube lag.

  • love numan

  • this video is great bit of numan

  • he should have worn a suit - it looks like a cover band - awesome track and sound though - wow!

  • This is my favorite song of all time. Thank you so much!

  • Saw NUMAN last night, this was my absolute fave performance of the night...thanks for posting! :-)

  • Cool. I was there too. Great show. I was just on the other side of the stage filming too. I can almost see myself in your video. Thank you
