i find these G73 series looks way more better than the G74, ( Currently owned an G74sx-a1 ) the model of G73 is awesome, especially it's keyboard, but about the back, i liked the G74 better

@alphadelta45 sure i have a asus x52d its not themost ideal gaming laptop in the world and it costed £499 and can run just cause 2 (steam version) all medium settings at 30 fps and team fortress 2 most high and some medium at 60fps
so i dont think the asus g73 will have a problem with steam
@IBobLee This model of G73's is good. I bought this one and at the time it was the best one on the market that ASUS produced. Now they have the new models out with the new Nvidia graphics card. I recomend if your going to be running Crysis 2 or other FPS genre games to get the New G73 model. This one plays Crysis on very high settings accross the board, but I decided to get crysis 2 for my PS3 due to the preference of the PS3 controller. Alienware is good for people that can afford 3 or 4,000
i have this computer, the most evident problem with it is the touchpad is faulty. And i've heard on many other asus users who had the same problem. It teleports the cursor to other places randomly, or interprets regular movements as multi touch, like zooming in and out. But it's not to the point of being unusable. Also, a few times when watching movies, it started sort of lagging, glitching about halfway. I had to restart the computer in order to finish.

I own this comp and I must say it's great for gaming. I get so heated when Alienware fanboys gay bash other PC's. The only thing Alienware has different is the it's design, flashy lights, and the nvidia graphics card. The ATI brand holds it's own against others and I am more than pleased at what the 5870 can do. I don't need a flashy PC, just a high perfomance comp and this one pulls it off with ease. I know i'm gonna catch heat for this one, but I think Alienware is overpriced and overrated.

@nolarolla87 i too own this beast....i've had it for nearly a year now and i must say i love it. i run all my online games at full maxed out graphics and there is no lag, no skipping, and it eats other laptops for breakfast - alienware included. the only problem i've had with it is gpu overheating so badly that it would shut down. i had to RMA it and asus took their sweet time gettting it fixed. but other than that, the g73jh-a2 is well worth the money spent on it.

@nolarolla87 I do agree with you that alienware is overpriced...almost. I own the alienware m11x and I must say I love it. The issue I have with the asus is its size, seriously that is one hell of a hunkin computer. When compared with the same sized alienware computers it does beat them ou,t but because I didn't want fractured femurs everytime I used my computer (I usually have it in my lap) I opted for the smaller m11x which will handle most games you thow at it with ease for the same price.
@nolarolla87 Yeh, I always thought ASUS was cheaper, but that is not the case anymore now. Alienware you can get a 6970m for $1750 in the M17x. ASUS is still rolling the weak 460m and the mediocre 5870 for around $1500+. Not only that but the Alienware laptops are upgradable, unlike the ASUS ones and they also have an aluminum shell, unlike ASUS. Now lets now even mention the G53xSW and the G74 with it's crippled 560m....
I always wanted a ASUS and love their design, but their GPU's are old.
@NateN34 Don't know what site you got your price information from, but I got mine for $1,300 brand new. Must be on a resale site or something. The M17x that you can get for $1,750 is just about bare bones. Maybe add 6gb of ram instead of the stock 4gb, up the graphics card from the stock radeon to the Nvidia GTX 460M, and you're still going to be paying a bit over $1,750. I do like the simple fact that you can upgrade your alienware laptop though.

@Spectrosypher I don't know where you get your information from, Catalyst drivers were updated just last month. I used to be a complete Nvidia fan and despised ATI for really no reason at all. Now that I'm using one of ATI's cards I realize they're just as capable, if not more capable than anything Nvidia can pump out. It's really just a back an forth battle between the big boys like ATI vs Nvidia and AMD vs Intel, really your best bet nowadays is to just jump on board which is currently best.

@EBA170 Comes with two 500GB standard disk drives. First drive is where the OS comes pre-installed and the second drive is partitioned in half and is just for extra storage. Everything can be upgraded/customized with this laptop without voiding the warranty except the GPU, but even that is upgradeable technically, so as long as your SSD is the same dimensions as the default drives, it's a simple matter to replace the stock drives with your SSDs
One more thing... as with any PC no matter the flavor of the operating system or the hardware it's running on, it can take a little tinkering to get the most out of your system. Many would argue, and I would agree that this laptop is subject to more problems than usual but nearly all of them are not without a fix. To some, having to tinker around a little bit to get the most out of their PC is a nuisance. To others, like me, it can be a blast... as long as you don't end up bricking it anyway...
All in all, this is a pretty good deal for the price. What really takes the cake for me is doing a comparison of hardware between this laptop I spent $1600+ on, and a MacShit Pro a friend spent over $2500 on (still can't figure out why he decided that would be a good idea, he still tries to defend his honor by having installed Windows 7 on it in place of OS X). Only improvement his laptop has over mine is an unnecessarily overpowered 2.6GHz i7, while sacrificing heavily on everything else.
I'm actually selling one of these for $800 if anyone might be interested in it send me a message I got it in September it's still in good condition :)
@clanpsi Yes ATI may have had compatibility issues at times but so has Nvidia. Its impossible to go without any sort of problems at all when you're trying to write drivers that are supposed to function flawlessly with hundreds of different brands of hardware. And PhysX is a complete joke. It is entirely a marketing gimmick used by Nvidia to help them sell their cards. Most games already have their own physics engines, and rarely does physics processing not occur on the CPU, PhysX engine included

@Muso992 Yes, the touchpad does support multi-touch. So far I've just used it for zooming by pinching your fingers similar to the iPod Touch, and you can also slide your finger along the edges of the mouse pad to scroll. Of course options like this are customizable and can be turned off.

I own this comp and I must say it's great for gaming. I get so heated when Alienware fanboys gay bash other PC's. The only thing Alienware has different is the it's design, flashy lights, and the nvidia graphics card. The ATI brand holds it's own against others and I am more than pleased at what the 5870 can do. I don't need a flashy PC, just a high perfomance comp and this one pulls it off with ease. I know i'm gonna catch heat for this one, but I think Alienware is overpriced and overrated.

@nolarolla87 i too own this beast....i've had it for nearly a year now and i must say i love it. i run all my online games at full maxed out graphics and there is no lag, no skipping, and it eats other laptops for breakfast - alienware included. the only problem i've had with it is gpu overheating so badly that it would shut down. i had to RMA it and asus took their sweet time gettting it fixed. but other than that, the g73jh-a2 is well worth the money spent on it.

@nolarolla87 I do agree with you that alienware is overpriced...almost. I own the alienware m11x and I must say I love it. The issue I have with the asus is its size, seriously that is one hell of a hunkin computer. When compared with the same sized alienware computers it does beat them ou,t but because I didn't want fractured femurs everytime I used my computer (I usually have it in my lap) I opted for the smaller m11x which will handle most games you thow at it with ease for the same price.

@nolarolla87 Yeh, I always thought ASUS was cheaper, but that is not the case anymore now. Alienware you can get a 6970m for $1750 in the M17x. ASUS is still rolling the weak 460m and the mediocre 5870 for around $1500+. Not only that but the Alienware laptops are upgradable, unlike the ASUS ones and they also have an aluminum shell, unlike ASUS. Now lets now even mention the G53xSW and the G74 with it's crippled 560m....
I always wanted a ASUS and love their design, but their GPU's are old.

@NateN34 Don't know what site you got your price information from, but I got mine for $1,300 brand new. Must be on a resale site or something. The M17x that you can get for $1,750 is just about bare bones. Maybe add 6gb of ram instead of the stock 4gb, up the graphics card from the stock radeon to the Nvidia GTX 460M, and you're still going to be paying a bit over $1,750. I do like the simple fact that you can upgrade your alienware laptop though.
I couldn't agree more on the GPU's being old.

@Spectrosypher I don't know where you get your information from, Catalyst drivers were updated just last month. I used to be a complete Nvidia fan and despised ATI for really no reason at all. Now that I'm using one of ATI's cards I realize they're just as capable, if not more capable than anything Nvidia can pump out. It's really just a back an forth battle between the big boys like ATI vs Nvidia and AMD vs Intel, really your best bet nowadays is to just jump on board which is currently best.

=> ATI takes back now support for Mobility Radeon.
However, I met less trouble with Nvidia.
(And then: no cuda, no PhysX.)

@EBA170 Comes with two 500GB standard disk drives. First drive is where the OS comes pre-installed and the second drive is partitioned in half and is just for extra storage. Everything can be upgraded/customized with this laptop without voiding the warranty except the GPU, but even that is upgradeable technically, so as long as your SSD is the same dimensions as the default drives, it's a simple matter to replace the stock drives with your SSDs

One more thing... as with any PC no matter the flavor of the operating system or the hardware it's running on, it can take a little tinkering to get the most out of your system. Many would argue, and I would agree that this laptop is subject to more problems than usual but nearly all of them are not without a fix. To some, having to tinker around a little bit to get the most out of their PC is a nuisance. To others, like me, it can be a blast... as long as you don't end up bricking it anyway...

All in all, this is a pretty good deal for the price. What really takes the cake for me is doing a comparison of hardware between this laptop I spent $1600+ on, and a MacShit Pro a friend spent over $2500 on (still can't figure out why he decided that would be a good idea, he still tries to defend his honor by having installed Windows 7 on it in place of OS X). Only improvement his laptop has over mine is an unnecessarily overpowered 2.6GHz i7, while sacrificing heavily on everything else.

@clanpsi Yes ATI may have had compatibility issues at times but so has Nvidia. Its impossible to go without any sort of problems at all when you're trying to write drivers that are supposed to function flawlessly with hundreds of different brands of hardware. And PhysX is a complete joke. It is entirely a marketing gimmick used by Nvidia to help them sell their cards. Most games already have their own physics engines, and rarely does physics processing not occur on the CPU, PhysX engine included

i have the asus republic of gamers g51jx-x3 laptop n when i watch videos full screen theres always break in the image at the top of the screen. im wondering if the screen itself is damaged or can it be fixed by changing the settings of some sort.... i dont know much about computers so if anyone knows what the problem is please reply back thanks!

@Muso992 Yes, the touchpad does support multi-touch. So far I've just used it for zooming by pinching your fingers similar to the iPod Touch, and you can also slide your finger along the edges of the mouse pad to scroll. Of course options like this are customizable and can be turned off.
