  • quite beating on the snare...

  • Most classical percussionists could play this as far as TECHNIQUE goes.

  • Comment removed

  • god dammit why does every drum video have comments about travis barker? travis barker is extremely talented.....in his genre. buddy rich wouldnt be playing punk rock. and travis doesnt play jazz or big band stuff. there will never be "the greatest drummer" period. peoples opinions differ. just shut up and enjoy drumming, instead of trying to show off and bash other players. buddy rich = most popular drummer of his era. travis barker = most popular drummer of todays era. fact.

  • @kshepthedrummer travis grew up on jazz dipshit and all drummer sware by his fucking name so show some fucking respect noob

  • @4against1 wow so cursing and calling someone a noob? real classy. and im showing respect where did you get me disrespecting anyone (other than people who make dumb comments at others drummers) from that message? and i know a shitload about travis barker hes a huge influence on me, so is buddy rich, and many other drummers. i also said he doesnt play jazz....as in now, he plays/tours with hip hop/rap and punk bands. so next time you go to cuss out a comment read and understand it.

  • That snare technique from 3:50 to 4:00 gives me goosebumps. Buddy is the best.

  • @LyleTheHobo I just say hail to the almighty hahaha

  • Did he just hit the overhead mic at 0:04 ????

  • And does it in a friggin turtle neck sweater!!

  • Everyone 1 is good or the best BUT you need more than a drummer to make a band and it's the BAND who get remembered !!!!

the special 1's who make people remember the band !

    Freddie=queen

    Ozzy=sabbeth

    slash=G N R

    etc ec etc

  • Dude dont be that hard hard on travis . Yes budy rich isthe drumming god . that means no can ever beat beat him .So besides that idiot people that compete travis with buddy Why do you assult travis.I mean if your not the best that doesnt means that your not good

  • 4 people don't like this. Probably they are Joey Jordison's fans...

  • everyone needs to shut the fuck up! buddy rich is amazing, travis barker is amazing. But i dont know if any of you dweebs know this but music is an opinion not fact so stop arguing and just be glad that both are here for us to enjoy....... oh yeah did anyone mention art blakely, elvin jones, chris penny?

  • E.T

  • the original blast beat...

  • Even when he hits the mic stand and ducks his head, he never misses a beat!

  • I keep wondering WHY anyone even mentions Travis Barker? He's a rock/marching drummer and not even good enough to mention. Buddy is bar far STILL one of the best drummers in the world. His smooth, impeccable solos are works of art by which no one can replicate today. At 2:18, I want to see any drummer today to a left hand and kick foot roll like Buddy does and as smooth as this.

  • simply put THE MASTER!!! A total natural

  • i think my face is pale, when i compare myself to this level of skill.

  • lol @ 0:03

  • Blazing fast single stroke rolls!!!

  • I think, that Buddy Rich is the best drummer of all times. Just an opinion...

  • 4 deaf retarded mongoloid cunts

  • A booger falling out of Buddy's left nostril and hitting the snare drum has more talent than Travis Barker.

  • Buddy is a legend forever. Travis is doing his own style. TWO DRUMMERS, two different worlds you a-holes. SHOW SOME RESPECT. Those are new to drums, I can tell travis is the door to drums and BUDDY is the main of the drums! I'm new to Buddy Rich and I want to explore more NOT TO CRITIC. to all who are better than the famous drummers like Travis, hope you guys can peak their stage of their lives BITCHES.

  • Yes,Buddy Rich,and Gene Krupa,were ,without a doght the,''Kings'',of Drummers,from the early 60's -early 70's,but there's a lil' known piece of 'Trivia',...a young Englishmen,named Carl Palmer,[ around 21 yrs.old ],that Buddy Rich,idolized...and if ya listen to any of his post,1970's 'Solo's,you'll catch numerous,Carl Palmers',riff's styles,tripeletes,doubled Kicks,on a single kick,and his numerou roll-outs...''just listen,before ya judge''...

  • how could someone dislike this!!! i'm a drummer & i'm not really into buddy rich, he's completly off the hook awesome!!!!!

  • cool that he crossed sticks a couple of times - nice to know he's literally not an alien. this goes way beyond mastery of an instrument or even instrumental mastery or even, music. it's hard to say exactly what Rich is doing. Amazing.

  • he hit the bloody mic stand. LOL.

  • He's almost as good as Ringo!

  • how the f. does he keep the snare?!?!? awesome drummer...

  • every buddy rich video.. "TRAVIS BARKER IS SO MUCH BETTER" id put my money on buddy in a battle any day of the week and if you valued your wealth you'd do the same.

  • Go Buddy!

  • This is truly amazing, but I have to say from 2:55 onwards was unreal, unearthly and definitely not of this space-time continuum.

  • HOW IS DRUM

  • Its almost like we are watching a normal drum solo at sped up 2 times on video.

  • Awww, why does it cut out at the end?! Gutted! :p

  • @Sleeve51 - Travis Barker is the drummer for the band *Blink 182*.... At least he was. He is definitely great... But not in the same class as Buddy or Neil. It's funny though, his name does sound kinda country. You should Google him; he has some awesome videos. Take care...

  • Who's Travis Barker? I'm serious. I saw Buddy on the Tonight show back in the late 60s with Louis Bellson accompanying him and poor Louis couldn't keep up (sad to say). He kept looking over to Buddy wth a :you're making me look bad" look. Louis dropped 2 sticks. I felt bad for him, but what can you expect when you pair up with the absolute King of Percussion. Now who the hell is Travis Barker? A country singer?

  • @sleeve51 travis barker is the fucking best show some respect ashole

  • @4against1 Travis Barker is awful. His ONLY talent is he can play sixteenths on hihat and ride kinda fast. Thats it. I'm a sophomore in high school and I have more talent than he does.

  • @4against1 not even close to the best. A lot of nobody's are better.

  • @4against1

    Absolutely false. Travis is terrible.

  • turtle neck and all

  • Buddy Rich had more talent in his left hand than any other drummer before or since.

  • Keith Moon

  • Travis wouldn't know what to make of this art form. An actual complex almost impossible drum solo that completely blows all of our minds. While Travis slams his sticks down, Rich hits with presicion , more speed yet theres rhythm and skill , Travis could only get that help from a recording. In other words, Travis ain't nothn.

  • @Tom6093 come on man, Travis is good, better than most, Has he ever said "im better that Buddy Rich' ? Buddy is probably the best drummer ever, hes the MJ of drums.

  • @MusketMatt Iv'e heard better drummers on street corners then Travis. All Travis is, is a hip hop drumming bitch that has some style, but absolutely no skill in other venues in music. Thats all he is. I can't take him seriously as a drummer. End of story.

  • Once he got to this point....could Buddy have gotten any better?? He kicked ass from the day he picked up drumsticks to the day he died. The name Travis Barker (vomit) shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as Buddy Rich!!

  • @GGBundy well sir you just mentioned both names in the same sentence.

  • Multi-core brain drummer !

  • @LoneKook Really? I thought someone as good as Buddy wouldn't need to take anthing.

  • If you ask most rock/metal drummers, Who is one of the best drummers ever? I bet over 90% would say "Buddy Rich" Hands down. Travis Barker wishes he had 1/10th of this talent.

  • holy shit balls batman!!!!!!!!

  • What in the WORLD!!!!

  • There are a lot of drummers better than Neal Peart (puh-leeze).

For those of you who don't know who Buddy Rich was, he was to the drums what Michael Jordan is to basketball.

  • I never thought I'd find a drummer better than Neil Peart... until now.

  • @imv3ryhungry listen to jazz fusion if you want drummers who are light years beyond n.peart. rock beats are very basic compared to jazz. u need the rudiments to do jazz, not with rock. watch dave weckl's solo in " Got a match - part 2", or dylan elise in "amazing drum solo"

  • greatest drummer ever (better than travis barker !!!!!!!!)

  • I Thought Travis Barker was the best drummer of all time, but now i've seen this man and you just can't choose who's the best they're both really awesome and they are pro's in what they do. Much respect to both

  • A TRUE MASTER AT WORK AT ANOTHER TIME

  • BUDDY!!!!!

  • ...i quit

  • Only once in a lifetime does an artist come along who is so much better than everyone else that u really can't make comparisons without sounding foolish. I've never seen anybody who could dance like Fred Astaire or play drums like Buddy Rich.

  • That is the most awesome fricken solo I have ever seen. No rock drummer could even come close to the control he has over those sticks.

  • I almost think he's gonna hurt himself! Damn !

  • yes spock rocked that shit speed was insane and at age 53 travis who is right

  • I don't know...Meg White might have him....

  • Never boring.

  • @EyalHoltzman you are wrong, it is possible to do all of this

  • 1:32 and on: you cannot do this without first visiting that crossroad at midnight.

  • he must of boiled in tht jumper and hair piece ....

  • That closed hihat bit. Those are the sweetest sounding hat cymbals I've ever heard. Are they 13 inch New Beats?

  • Love the bass drum bit.As fast as grind core drummers are doing today but he was doing it back then.

  • you r all so opinionated! there is no comparison with anyone! everyone is different!! Shutup and watch the videos and Learn! or... are u too good for that???

  • I used to think I had some speed on the kit. Now I just wanna go home and burn my drums.

  • Travis who?

  • @t1mman nah, justin who?

  • @t1mman Travis Rich

  • This is insane!

Please everybody, stop comparing. It doesn't matter, it's just what he does to you that cares!

  • Travis is good, but Billy Cobham with Mahavishnu ("Vital Transformation" played in 9/8 time) and Buddy Rich and Vinnie Colauta and Gary Husband are also very good. Travis plays punk very well. Buddy Rich could get a full size big band to absolutely kick ass. Travis can't. Listen to Rich's "Big Swing Face". It's ALL good.

  • mamita querida

  • Travis Barker is better.

  • @catfacesandwich Travis Barker is shit.

  • @kissugi He's more innovative, he has better technique, and doesn't just thrash away with speed like rich does here.

  • Comment removed

  • @catfacesandwich Please go be irrelevant somewhere else.

  • @kissugi hes not shit..you don't like him..i not a fan but he aint shit..you are

  • @killercrabman i'm not shit... you don't like me. :) anyway i drum better than he, but i'm not superstar..unfortunately.... so.... Travis Barker is a shit superstar...

  • @catfacesandwich The only logical response to your comment is "You're an idiot"!!!

  • Бесподобно!!!!!!

  • His double strokes were going so fast that they looked like single strokes...and people still think Nickelback is good. :\

  • @k10007 excuse me, but comparing with Bieber, Nickelback is awesome :P but yeah... nothing like the Jazz!

  • @k10007 You don't know the difference between single and double strokes. Travis Barker is a better drummer anyway.

  • the best o my god .fantastic .there will nevver be a other b rich .rock drummers thake lessons.

  • now i know where ian paice gets his inspiration!

  • None ever RICHed his talent...:)

  • Man,there is just nothing as special as watching someone who excels at their craft. Whether it be doing drywall,painting,cooking-anything,a master at work is something to behold. This was a true master and the best there ever was- period.

  • makes neil peart look like a pussy

  • To laugh as hard as possible =

    When AWESOMENESS becomes HILARIOUS ;-)

Cheers from Cancun Mexico. I'll... watch this 1mo' time :-o

    O Dios Mio :-D

And I laughed OUT LOUD AGAIN!!!! WOW :-O

  • What's that in my pants?.......oh yeah; seaman.

  • Dope!!

  • How the hell is he pull'n this off wit dat snare like that? The man is incredible

  • the high velocity, intergalactic, warp speed, whatchamacallit stuff; simply fabulous!

  • shit...

  • any drummer with knowledge .knows buddy is the best ..

  • no way the range of notes from just the drumsticks

  • 0:03 :)

  • Slingerland Neil Part Illuminois 1972

    r Drums :D Great set :)

  • man, him and john bonham play together would be epic:)

  • Comment removed

  • @123seanoconnell

No ROCK drummer Bonham or whomever could approach the likes of Buddy. Buddy's drum artistry is unmatched.

Check out Buddy on Youtube featuring him in the 60's. INCENDIARY!

  • @123seanoconnell Unfortunately, I saw Buddy on talk show saying he didn't like Led Zeppelin. But he did like Carl Palmer from elp.

  • Cocaine abuse gone right.

  • No Question One of the best if The best !! True Story took lessons from one of Buddy Rich's Teachers in CT 1969 at Weller Studios ! Was grilled on Jazz at a young age and hated it ! Only years later that I thanked him. But really funny watching this , because picked up alot of the same beaters or style 44 years later , Mark Rich at MonsterDrumWorks-FLA-USA *

  • was it just me that noticed that he striked the mic above his head at 0:03 ?

  • What about Billy Cobham? I think Mr. Rich and Mr. Cobham are in the same level. One level two million years above the other drummers.

  • @aressu2 They definitely were masters of the style of music that each played.

  • oh my fucken god!!!!!

  • Hahahahaha! that poor left overhead mic!!!!

  • lol 0:03

  • Hands--Feet--Imagination--Genius

  • Unreal! Anyone serious about drumming should study Buddy's books, he's simply too important overlook. I would Shudder to hear what he'd play like if he where young today and with precision engineered drums

  • Aside from his incredible hand speed and control no one ever mentions his right foot. Power, speed and control like Ive never heard with a single pedal. Simply amazing. Buddy was one of a kind. Truly gifted and unique. He is the king of the drum solo. He practically invented them. Musicality mixed with virtuosity. WOW

  • a true artist.

  • damn, homie!

  • I know Buddy is the man, but I must say here he has a haircut like Moe.

  • Even whilst employing dazzling speed, he was supremely musical- that was his greatest gift. What a beast.

  • greatest drummer of all time. Ive never seen a better single stroke roll. @ 2:55

  • 0:03 always makes me laugh :)

  • @4against1 you made me laugh. kudos bro

  • @4against1 then rich is the ceo

  • The greatest drummer who ever lived. Unparalleled speed and accuracy, innate rhythmic feel, perfect control and command. He was the greatest.

    Frankie C. Jazz Express

  • I could listen to just him, the band not important...

  • This video is pretty darn good...but I have seen Buddy play melody on the skins. Anyone know if there is a video like that here?

  • man... SPOCK is really good at drums!

  • i prefer t barkers drum solos much more fucking musicel

  • He doesn't move, he vibrates.

  • How freaking low can a hi-hat go! Crazy.

  • this guy puts real drumming into perspective... and that perspective is that he is the greatest ever and everyone else are just posers

  • no dislikes!! this is awesome!!!

  • I was lucky enough to have seen Buddy play 10 or so times. Best I ever saw.

  • RIDICULOUS! - ly good.

I grew up hearing Rich was the best ever. I don't need to sse any more. I believe it.

  • WTF, how is 1:38 possible?

  • @Viper668 i think the hand holding the high hats is also sticking the bottom hat just out of the camera shot

  • a true drummer...FUCK tommy lee, neil peart, etc...cheers mate : )

  • travis barker can own this dude badly in a fucking drum off

  • Buddy's seasoned skill 'n precision exhibited always remains unmatched.

  • Comment removed

  • @speedoflite1 Duh!

  • @dougalmac54 wake up

  • He looks like Leonard Nimoy (Spok) in the beginning haha

    Still an absolute amazing Drummer!

  • The drums as high art. The finest drummer of the twentieth century or any century...

  • Wow, amazing. And he did it all with just one rack and 2 floor toms. He's just so at ease when he's playing. If i had to show someone just one drummer to show what drumming is about, I'd show him buddy. I heard he never practiced, either. Imagine what he'd do with today's drum technology. Nobody drove a big band better than buddy, i think.

  • @metalfiend124 He very rarely used his second floor tom. Most of the time it was a place to rest his towel!

  • @Gretchluver1 I wish he used more rack toms, but he certainly didn't need them. He gets a great range of sounds out of just one tom.

  • Buddy Rich is not a normal drummer. He makes allmost all other drummers look like babies banging on pots and pans. He is just to amazing for words.

  • Best Drummer in the world

  • @kirkwanglers32 without any doubt. ridiculous technique and dexterity. mind boggling.

  • Respond to this video...My only beef with this video is that it stops before we see the whole performance. I WANT EVERY SECOND Buddy has to offer. I don't want to miss a moment.
