Gosh this is so awesome to see back, I was there somewhere up front, as a Monkees fan, with some friends of the Dutch Davy Jones fanclub. It was the most incredible experience of my life. First real big concert I had witnessed. Afterwards we all waited outside for the monkees to leave so we could wave them goodbye and of course hoping they would sign autographs, which they did not..but that was okay..we were already happy to see them up close! Awesome to see this again!

Um, yes they are lip synching (though it is their own voices they synch), and yes, two of them could play instruments: Peter and Mike. There's a whole back story in a number of 25th anniversary history shows that told of their irritation with their producers. The producers thought it was a bad idea for them to play their own instruments, but Mike was very frustrated that he wasn't allowed to, because that's the reason he was hired.

Mike and the rest finally got license to do their own songs.

I was 19 when I became a Monkees fan in 1986 and I felt like an idiot too, but I shouldn't have because they were one of the highest grossing concerts that year and plenty of other teenagers like me "fell for them" - even though they were in their 40s at that time. I'm 44 now and just recently got back "into them" again - cuz nothing compares to music like this! Anyway, YOU have taste!
