I'm a great jazz lover and i think this tune rocks. loved it for years. mingus dug it. miles dug it too. is that too sanctimonious for your blanket assertion about the predilections and musical tastes of jazz lovers? music is music. as Duke said there are two types of music, good music, bad music. I mostly like the good kind
To my son who is now with the Lord. You remember us playing this when you were a little boy. This was suppose to be for my funeral not yours! I LOVE YOU ALWAYS. Mom
man so fantastic to hear this again, use to get out of it a lot to this album, take a trip and never leave my record player.awesome guitar music from an artist.
I am sitting back with my coffee and enjoying this. I have always been into rock and blues. I sing country because when I opened my mouth to sing, well out came that twang, lol. I picked up an eletric guitar and I am learning my barre chords now, looking forword to some rock. I would like to see you post more. Have a wonderful day Steve. Laura
Guitar solo beginning at 1:30 is 2 1/2 minutes of just about the best an electric guitar can be played slowly and without a pick. Beck can shred but is even better when he plays slow like this.
Beck is The Best out of all the Yardbirds Guitar Alumni !!! But I Still love Clapton and Page...All Genius's in their own right . Beautiful...Heavenly !!!
@Nmber6 Something just doesn't seem right when Jeff Beck was opening for Jefferson Starship. They should have been opening for him. They're not even close to his league . . .
It depends on who you are I guess. For me there's nothing more annoying than someone who judges others, labels them and attacks others to make himself seem better. Love this tune by the way.

Unquestionably the most expressive voice on electric guitar I've ever experienced. Been doing Beck music since the seventies. Love his masterful touch and expression. Blessed to have seen him twice. This song is a chill sender.
Funny how things change over time. I bought this album, what, 18 years ago maybe? The it was all about Led Boots. Now this is my favorite tune on the album. Great rendition IMO. Jazz purists won't like it, but then there's nothing more annoying than a sanctimonious jazz purist.
@blueguitarist tell me about it... I love anything that's good, whether it's metal, rap, jazz, classical, funk or whatever. MUSIC IS MUSIC DAMMIT!!! all you have to do is open your ears and not be close-minded.
@shoesheep ugh... purists of any type only KILL the music. music is like a living organism. as soon as it stops growing and evolving it dies. and it's funny to me how someone can be a bebop purist or something like that, since the purists of that day accusted the beboppers of killing jazz themselves.
@vanea99 You are right , great acoustic version and Beck started to be interested in the tune because of Mclaughlin version in the first place ...
However , in my own opinion , Beck 's surrealistic inventiveness on electric guitar is something like he's reeinventing the song !It is rumored that Mingus himself enjoyed very much Beck 's version ...
Joni Mitchell 's version is also great but Beck 's version is my all time favorite!!
@shoesheep Jeff "blew" me away, "what, 35 years ago maybe" with this. With that type of expertise so young, you'd wonder how gifted musicians could enhance their talent. Seems like Jeff found the answer by slimming down his band and employing the best tech available to display a unique talent. If Carlsberg made the best cover-versions in the world....see what I did there there (swidt)? Jeffs' a one off
Sublime every time.

My first concert ever was Jefferson Starship (1976), but I was blown away by the "warm up" band...Jeff Beck. My taste in music was forever altered.

@EasyAce As I recall, Starship had big hits out at the time and were at the top of the charts. But the crowd did not want Beck to leave the stage.
