This oST is 'Barry in a Box' - great stuff that still does all sorts of emotional things to me. I guess my crit of Barry would be that he used a fairly small toolkit. But what a toolkit. They should remake BH for a post-Hawking generation. Sure to be better than Sunshine ;P
This was all released on vinly 12" 33rpm. I know this because it's one of the first albums I bought. Sadly I no longer have any vinyl as I gave it all away before I moved to america to be with my tru love of the time. Hmm - I got rid of that too (well, actually she got rid of me :) )
I'll always remember the music which starts at 1:31, showin the now completely destroyed Cygnus at the very moment Reinhardt could've reliesed his dreams, they were all crushed and taken away from him as Max left him to die. I also thought for a long time when Reinhardt encountered Max at the start of the scene showin Max had eye balls revealed he was Kate's dead father, and want to continue believing that regardless of other theories. a one time great sci-fi movie which I will always adore
Thanks for posting this. I watched this film as a kid and couldn't remember the soundtrack from it so well, but I did remember it sounding a lot like some of the Bond films that came out about the same time....which your comments confirm.
Many thanks for posting these ost vids... Ive been after the black hole soundtrack for ages and now thanx to you and 'dirpy.com' I can rip the music straight off these videos. Once again thanx for posting this aweome soundtrack!!! cheers.
probably the most underrated scifi film ever. It's dark, the cinematography is epic, and not a typical disney film. Defenatly on my favorite films list, and score for that matter. Especialy 1:30 to the end. gives me the chills
Great piece which fitted the sequence well. Visions of a hell and Reinhardt merging with Max and then it uplifts to the heroes' rocket drifting through limbo and back into perhaps another galaxy (or Earth!), its good to see it leavs the audience to make up their own mind on the climax. The book was disappointing as everyone died in the Hole or thats how i interpreting it as, "they became part of the universe.."
Yes, Its title is The Black Hole which I believe was written by Alan Dean Foster, You may find it on Amazon or e bay. I did have it Once but through time lost it, remember is distinctly as the centre pages were photo stills from the film.
It's a piece that has not been released to my knowledge on any format. There are quite a few music cues and pieces from the film that have not been released yet, let alone the original LP on CD. If it comes down to it, and I learn how to do it, I will rip the audio from the film itself and make a complete soundtrack ala the bootleg version of the Wrath of Khan soundtrack that has floated around the net for awhile (before the legit release by FSM just recently).
@enemyofbohemia That's not a bad idea actually. Not sure if Disney would just let them release it though. WIth the rumors of a remake of The Black Hole happening, Disney may just get around to releasing a complete version of the soundtrack. Or...they could just be butts about it and pull all copies of the film from retail like what they did with Tron :( Who knows?
@alucard624 Yeah, I'm holding onto my copy of The Black Hole they released but I'm hoping they put both that and Tron on Blu-ray eventually. But I'm sure Disney would not turn down a profit if FSM were to release a 3000 or 2000 unit limited edition.
Superb score by an all time great. Alucard, you said you have the COMPLETE score? Nice one, would this be the original Lp version or some full new release version with all the other cues in, like the re-released Alien?
Keep posting fella, looking forward to the others like 'Laser' etc.
It's the original LP, which I dug out of my garage along with a bunch of other LP soundtracks, like Silent Running (which I will be posting later on). All I did was rip them to my PC and voila, all MP3's now.
The other tracks will be forthcoming very soon. I believe there are just 3 more till the whole thing is up on my channel. Stay tuned.
@katyrick09 You can get The black hole score coupled with barry's score for Howard the duck on an italian CD only, it's never been released elsewhere, it doesnt have any tracks over the old LP release ( maybe being saved for down the line) You can usually find it on Ebay but for around 25 pounds or so, quite expensive. i still rate this as one of Barry's all time best scores, so for me it was worth paying that much.
@Russell230870 I actually had that CD at one point before it was stolen. Got it when I was stationed in Germany many years back. Tracked down a copy of the LP because it was less expensive and just ripped the tracks from that to MP3 format.

I like 1:30 - 2:30, as well. The synthesizer in the background makes it sound like damned souls wailing into oblivion.
