I saw this tonight! I didn't really like the songs as they're not really stand alone songs, they're dialogue set to music. But overall the movie is FANTASTIC. I loved it! There were some great one liners in this movie, and the lead actor did a great job. It's campy and cheesy and totally amazing. Go see it. It will make you smile.

Guys, don't take it too seriously. It's just a movie. I saw it at TIFF, it's decent. Deffinately cheesy, but lighthearted and fun. it's NOT going to be everyone's cup of tea, but that's okay. It's sort of meant to be like an inside joke for us Canucks.

Like you, I also saw this film at TIFF, and I was snarking with my friend at it throughout the whole thing. Some of the lyrics are really painful to listen to, the plot feels like a knockoff of several other romantic films, and the humor just isn't that funny. There's a reason why the reaction has been mixed so far. Score shouldn't have been the film to open the festival. Once you get past the whole "Canada is so awesome" schtick, there's no substance to it.
Btw... music is art. Art is about life. Is hockey not a part of life? I don't get why people are having a heart attack over this. Take some prozac, find a hobby, calm down. Or else you're gonna get a heart attack... Seriously, people who get offended so easily need to find something important to get riled up about, like female genital mutilation or starvation in third world countries. Getting upset about a hocky musical is pretty sad, really.
The classic musicals were all about the 'overnight' success stories - seems fitting with Hockey in Canada nowadays. I don't know, I like seeing old genres being re-vamped and I see this film playing with old conventions. I also want to support Canadian film!

Guys, don't take it too seriously. It's just a movie. I saw it at TIFF, it's decent. Deffinately cheesy, but lighthearted and fun. it's NOT going to be everyone's cup of tea, but that's okay. It's sort of meant to be like an inside joke for us Canucks.
Even if you don't like this movie, and you think the concept is lame, i think we can all agree that at the end of the day, hockey and canada are still kick ass. This is just a film, no big deal.

"This is Our Passion"???? No. Screw that. Maybe there is a fan base of Hockey in Canada, but I am embarrassed to admit this is our national sport.

I think it's offensive that a great movie like Scott Pilgrim can take place in Canada and yet have no Canadian financing backing yet movies like this our government organizations throw money at like there is no tomorrow - I am no expert but if you want to have a musical shouldn't you have people who know how to sing - movies like this just create stereotypes that we're just a bunch of hosers eh

Like you, I also saw this film at TIFF, and I was snarking with my friend at it throughout the whole thing. Some of the lyrics are really painful to listen to, the plot feels like a knockoff of several other romantic films, and the humor just isn't that funny. There's a reason why the reaction has been mixed so far. Score shouldn't have been the film to open the festival. Once you get past the whole "Canada is so awesome" schtick, there's no substance to it.

Btw... music is art. Art is about life. Is hockey not a part of life? I don't get why people are having a heart attack over this. Take some prozac, find a hobby, calm down. Or else you're gonna get a heart attack... Seriously, people who get offended so easily need to find something important to get riled up about, like female genital mutilation or starvation in third world countries. Getting upset about a hocky musical is pretty sad, really.

The classic musicals were all about the 'overnight' success stories - seems fitting with Hockey in Canada nowadays. I don't know, I like seeing old genres being re-vamped and I see this film playing with old conventions. I also want to support Canadian film!
