It looks like they ran out of film stock before they finished shooting the thing... and that they were filming it in a sequence order... I can't find another explanation. Besides that the product shows great experience in working with special effects. Nothing to say about the story, which only serves as an excuse for the effects as it looks. Kudos for a young Cameron
I'll bet when making this film, he had a revelation idea for his next one and said, "the heck with this", I can do better ! and just stopped it there...
so it's ok that this one isnt done, we know who wins, Love has too.
DAMN YOU JAMES CAMERON FOR NOT MAKING A PART 3 AND INSTEAD GOING TO TO MAKE SOME OF THE MOST AWESOME SCIENCE FICTION MOVIES OF ALL TIME, LIKE TERMNATOR! Really, damn you.
I am so impressed. Of course is an student film but the imagination of Cameron can be seen here. When I have seen the woman inside the machine.. wowh! That´s Alien´s!!
This make us think if we are making our student movie.
This is such a great find; I've wanted to see this for a very long time.
Nearly every Cameron trademark is established here, and he definitely elaborated on these ideas with the Terminator films and Aliens.
It goes to show though that even the greats have humble roots with developing their craft, so this should be good inspiration for young filmmakers out there...
Pretty funny- The main character in this mini movie (the guy hanging over the edge) is a good friend of JC for a lot of years, and was the co-writer of the script for Terminator 2...he's in T2 snapping photos when Arnold crashes through the window at the mall
No it was Star Wars. 2001: A Space Odyssey may have been his favorite movie, but Star Wars is what inspired him to go to film school. He quit his job as a truck driver after he saw Star Wars to have a chance in the film industry. Clearly you are wrong MemoriesOfMurder if you can't even spell the movie correctly.
this is the coolest 70's sci fi tv show that never existed... I'm an aspiring filmmaker myself and Im trying to pattern myself after James Cameron...looks like I have a lot of work to do (this is a STUDENT film!!....from the 1970s!!)
I just watched both parts. The second one sounds like The Terminator and I am curious if Cameron used the same sounds ;-). I think Cameron knew what kind of cinema he wants to make in his future.
when I first commented, I´d only seen the firs part of this short, but after watching the second part, it seems apparent a Star Wars influence; even the hero and his outfit looks very similar to the one worn by Luke Skywalker as a pilot ( no wonder was Star Wars the movie that arouse Cameron to the cinema). Very impresive
You are wrong in that department. It was 2001: A Space Oddyssey (which Cameron claims is his all time favorite movie) that made him want to become a filmmaker. Cameron said he saw 2001 20 tiems at the cinemas bvack in the day, so he could beging to understand how Kubrick had achieved some of the thing sin that movie. It's 2001 not Star Wars that is Cameron's muse.
If I was a dentist, I'd give them money too. This is awesome.

James Cameron alrighty thought of the Wii! ha-ha!
Much better imagination and skill than what kids are making today with all of the technolgy at their disposal.

Now I know where Cameron got the idea for the Ripley vs Queen Alien scene in Aliens.

Yeah, that's William Wisher. He's also the cop in T1 who gets his head smashed by Arnold after the Tech Noir.
