@tehorix789 I bought a bunch of these today, and the guy at the shop told me: for the right angle plugs, it's to keep the metal screw-in plug from working loose, and for the straights, it's to give a bit of strength to the system, so you don't pull the wire out when disconnecting.
I have used these cables for years.. Super quality.
