  • quick question, i have a round sinker mold and it has a grove for a bike spoke (for the holes in the sinkers) i am just wondering can i pour the lead into the mold without the spoke because i dont want the hole in them, or will the molten lead spill out from the sides?

  • @Arcz90 you can cast with the hole in it but you may have to keep the lead and mold a little cooler. i do it all the time.

  • @bubby303

thanks for replying, i have tried with the wire but it keeps getting stuck in the sinkers, how are you ment to get it out?

  • the sound of birds in your video is kool....then comes the sirens...ugh!

  • I just got the new lee furnace from cabella's can't wait to try it. Thanks AverageFisherman. Cabella's should compensate you for the advertisment because if I didn't see you do it I would have never bought this thing. Thanks again!

  • i need lots and lots of lead! Do you have an idea where i can get some easily?

  • Thank you so much. Very informative. Very good video and thanks for doing it outside in a well ventilated area. Let the little ones go. We can get em next year.

  • Great vid! Thanks for showing that pot, I just ordered one and some molds. Fish On!!

  • what did you spray that with ?

  • @CopperPiiipe He used cooking spray.

  • @PropagationProdigy sound man !

  • @CopperPiiipe What??

  • @PropagationProdigy wow. u dont know what i mean ?!?!?!?!?

  • where you get your lead frorm

  • where you get your lead from

  • where did you buy the mold and that melting pot?

  • @rocrfella you can get them al bass pro or cabellas

  • where u get the lead melter?

  • Pritty sure moulten leaad dosnt dry it cools!

  • i know another trick you might find interesting. use a metal spoon to do this.

melt the lead and carefully pour it into a spoon. when it cools, drill a hole on the thinner part. easy river weight. i never have done it but my dad does it. i just pour jig heads and add skirts, weedguards, rattlers, and trailers and sell them for $4.

    like your video.

  • Yeah too bad us average people don't have that equipment wtf is this shit

  • you can make a bullet using this ?

  • too bad that's mapp gas torch not a pro pain torch

  • Lol, breathe deep.

  • hi do you do sea fishing if so do you no some good rig to make

  • Shark River Mail Order (SRMO dot com) has WAY better prices on molds, and GREAT service. I just got a new mold from them, I got the stuff at my house before they e-mailed me notification they were sending the stuff out!

  • The only thing I would like to add to AF's video is please wear a face sheild when working with moten lead. If it pops and you get a little burn on the arm, not the end of the world but if it hits your eyes, well blind is forever.

  • where in the heck do u get the lead?? u go on peoples roofs to get it like i do?

  • Dude you are a freaking genius. Never would have thought of making my own

  • do you buy your lead i dont i go to tire shops and they give me their spare lead for free cuase they dont need it i make surf weights

  • The hole must be plugged a bit, but if it poors faster they'll look alot prettier. but whatever.

  • where or how do you get lead

  • you can make a mold in the sand

  • i need t o try that

  • hey is there a molder for making weights on a treble hook

  • most sinkers these days are a mix of lead tin antonmy zinc and a few other metals thats how people get harder sinkers for jiging i use lead flashings off roofs for splitshot and old tire weights for harder jigs and a mix of both for general casting i cast for comertial anglers 100 lb a week is a mimimum dont over heat metal if its gold looking or purple turn it down its very poisonous at that temprature

  • Where can you get the lead from?

  • @kinglulu239 old car battery from roberto Australia whole seller fishing sinker call 0423688352 Sydney

  • Lead is bad for the water, reminds me of years ago when they said "that little bit of mercury in pollution doesn't hurt anything" and now today many fish can't be eaten because they contain mercury. Anyways I try to use the steel sinkers when I can.

  • they make a nice little ladel that fits into the pourer that is realy good to pour the larger sinkers as you dont get pouring marks on them have the same moulder and the flow rate on aneything over 1 oz is a little low good video and safty aspects covered have fun fishing

  • where can u buy that at

  • I've been fishing longer than the Average Fisherman has been alive. I've looked at alot of fishin stuff on You Tube. He has his act together and is trying to share some of his trial and error knowledge. I was NOT trying to dis the guy and never would. Somebody out there alway trying to start shit.

  • oh yeah, i saw that pot in bass pro's magazine. pretty awesome!

  • where did you get your pot at

  • o kool is it like as big as bass pro shop or like kinda a small shop?

  • @yankeezzz01

    bps= BAss Pro Shop i

  • lemme guess. u got em at bass pro shop in atleborro. lol i jus got the same equipment. burned myself already lol but have bout 5 pounds of sinkers.

  • @yankeezzz01

no got it @ BPS in Clarksville in.

  • this is excellent and well explained. thanks boss.

  • Great video man, I havent poured my weights yet but just bought a small pot with a pour top for muskie bait harnesses.

Can you use lead shot for reloading?

  • great video, where do you get those molds and howmuch are they, weights is the most expensive part to fishing just about i spend more onlost weights then ido on my poles lol!

    thanks alot

    coscott228

    SCAREDYCATFISHIN

  • you can get the molds/and melters @ BAss Pro, Cabellas, or BarlowTackle . prices vary on size of mold

  • @AverageFisherman You should adjust to pour a little quicker your sinkers will be nicer and well done!!!

  • @coscott228 in the states,u can get a 120volt pot from lee precision, but if u can, get the 220 volt 1 as it heats up quicker & maintains the temp better when u are adding more lead 2 the pot. u will need a step up transformer 2 run the 220volt pot

  • @frasatat2 or just install a 15 or 20 amp 220 outlet somewhere near where you cast. if it is not near where you cast just get a good 14 gauge extension cord and cut the ends and fit it with the proper 220 plugs. even 16 gauge lamp cord would work for an extension cord sense it is 220 volt it is half the amps and sense it is just the heating element there is no need for the center tap.

  • You ungratful bunch of assholes. He's trying to educate your ignorant ass. Everyone of you, like 005showme, is trying to dis the guy. If you don't like the information he's giving out, then just go on your merry fucking way. You don't have to give the guy shit.

  • lol welcome to youtube.. everyone is a critic lol

  • So your basically saying that 'AverageFisherman' can't stand up for himself and he needs you to tell people off for him. Wow man, ur awsome, your making fun of him but making it seem like your not. Ur a pretty smart guy you know that. High Five!

  • how was he "making fun of me"

he may be a "pretty smart guy" but if you think he was making fun of me but making it seem like he wasn't you SPECIAL ED!

"high five".... who says that these days?

  • @AverageFisherman "high five", you told him

  • @SuperMaxx4 I wasn't "dissin" the guy you ignorant wigger!!!!!!! I was just trying to help!! F-off you slack jawed mouth breather!!

  • You need to increase the lead flow and soot the mold to stop the wrinkles on your finished stuff, instead of Pam. And think about a gate shear for the spru removal.

  • thanks for the info, but the fish dont care if the sinkers arent pretty. the spam just keeps the lead from sticking to the mold, and lets the mold fill up completely first pour instead of making 1/2 sinkers til your mold is hot.

  • we arent in the pro catpgeroy...We dont care what they look like and the fish sur e as hell dont...this guy catch so many fish it isnt even funny!!!

  • its like melting ice

  • old spark plugs are my favourite. attach swivels to sparking end or not. i fish in irelands west coast verrrrry snaggy.

  • spark plugs are good for 3 way rigs

  • Dumb question I know but... what about just using old nuts and washers-? tye/loop a rubber band to yourline so if it snag's the rubber band breaks and not your line.? go to the scrapyard n get a handfull of them for free! great video though! I've done it before and have been wanting to buy a mold n stuff for splitshots.-peace n tight lines bro!

  • depend on the type rig you were fishing...

carolina rig the hole in a nut the size you would need (for desired weight) would be too big to stop @ the swivel and slide on down to the hook/bait. but for small rigs it may work

  • cool i like you guys. strait to the point no messin.

  • cheaper to go around ur local tire shop and ask them for old wheel weights and ur get for free...

  • do u ever put in wire for some of the molds

  • yea on the no-rolls

  • hey wat was that stuff u sprayed on the mould?

  • pam (spray grease)

  • ok. thanks

  • where can u get a pot that u melted the lead in cuz idk where to get 1.

  • BAss Pro Shop carries them... cabellas ect...

  • if you go to Barlow's Fishing web site they offer that same pot way cheaper than bass pro shop

  • so does cabelas!!

  • Barlows Fishing Supply web site

  • cabelas is cheaper...$40 cheaper

  • wow lol

  • i noticed you said you get the lead from tire shops but how do you ask them and do they ask you what you want it for

  • were would u get lead to do this your self

  • tire shops is where i get mine, or from plumbers who remove it from old pipes

  • just like all sinkers.. you use LEAD

  • $40 is nothing.. thats like $80 sinkers!

  • i mean thats like 80 sinkers

  • just bought this mold at bass pro on clearence for FIFTEEN DOLLARS man that was insane...i had to get it..

  • i have a no-roll mold that makes 1, 11/2, 2, 3 and i like it is the do-it mold also...

  • When hydrogen comes in contact with arsenic and antimony, or compounds of these two elements, the hydrogen reacts to form ammonia analogues called arsine and stibine, AsH3 and SbH3. Both of these are heavy gases and both have the similar characteristic odors of rotting fish. In World War One the Germans experimented with these, along with phosphine, another rotting-fish-smelling gaseous ammonia analogue with formula PH3, as war gases.

  • Normally when sulfuric acid (or water) gets in contact with calcium metal it undergoes a rather vigorous reaction that generates hydrogen gas. In and of itself this is no big deal, hydrogen is a simple non-toxic asphyxiant that is also flammable. But the lead alloy used in batteries also contains a bit of antimony and even arsenic to help harden and strengthen the lead to withstand the vibration and general knocking-about batteries have to withstand in order to survive normal automotive use.

  • That is what makes the batteries low maintenance or maintenance free, you don't need to add water to the cells as often like in the old days. When the battery lead is melted down there is enough sulfuric acid from residual electrolyte trapped in the lead dioxide and lead framework of the battery plates to react with the small amount of calcium metal in the lead alloy.

  • Why Car Batteries Are Dangerous

The warnings about smelting automotive batteries to recover the lead they contain needs a bit of explanation. Doing so really does have the potential to harm or even kill you and here is why. Maintenance free/low maintenance batteries use calcium metal-doped lead to catalyze the hydrogen gas generated from water electrolysis back into water.

  • Awesome vid man!i subscribed!

  • I use the lee melting pot as well. Have you ever tried to just put the mold up to the nipple and pour? I hold the mold up tight on the nipple pull handle.. once it's full it will show on the edges. This will get rid of the ripple effect of the sinker. You can open the handle up full blast too on those large sinkers. Good Video

  • what stores have these for sale?

  • bass pro...cabelas (cheaper) it accually on sale now for 44.99...bait shops!

  • can u use somthing els besides LEAD.?

  • not that i know of

  • k thanks man ur vid is cool o and what kind on melting pot is that .. and is it 110v or 220v?

  • lea lead melter 110v

  • You could use just about any kind of solder. Expensive and not as heavy.

  • haha paul i heard the cops in the background. what did ya do this time?

  • nothing, but live in a bad neighborhood

  • Always wear safety glasses while pouring lead. I've had bugs and sweat land in the lead pot and explode, throwing lead. Wear long sleeves for safety as well. You can "season" your mold by holding it closely over a lit candle which will leave a black residue thus making it non-stick. This is alot safer than spraying Pam.

  • never had ANY problem using pam, and been using it for YEARS

  • That's cool but my main concern was for anyone using an aerosol product around an open flame while melting lead. I've been pouring lead for more than 30 years and I know that molten lead will "bite" you every chance it gets. Safety should never be taken lightly.

  • didnt think about ppl using open fire ... good point!

the lead melters are ALOT SAFER

and getting splashed by lead sucks! it sticks to the skin!

  • I just wanted to say thanks for not taking my replies as a personal attack. You Tube has alot of people that are easily offended. I had a Lee production pot until the spout finally rusted out last year. I now use an electric hot plate for melting and pour with a ladle, which to my surprise, I like better. The Lee pot lasted more than 20 yrs. though. I wish you the best of luck with your fishing in '09.

  • no problem man... i have no problem with ppl adding good advice

  • Good video. Me and my buddy have the same set up but we get our lead from tire weights that are used to balance tires. You can get tons of em free from tire shops.

  • "Couldn't afford to fish if we didn't make our own...".

Luv it, and luv this vid! I am an LA boy who used to fish A LOT. No matter what color we are, or other social differences, there are always commonalities that keep this sport rich with good people. Sharing like this keeps that spirit alive!

    Thnx for sharing Vid.

  • can you make it with seament

  • i seriously doubt it

  • LoL cement

  • Got a quick qestion.. Do you have a rig or style of sinker that would work for bankfishing in heavy cover and current?

  • No roll sinkers used a carolina rig will stay put in heavy current. You can make your own no roll sinkers with large egg sinkers by inserting a nail through the egg sinker then lightly tap the egg sinker with a hammer to form 2 flat sides which will prevent the sinker from rolling in the current. Inserting the nail keeps the center hole from collapsing. As for heavy cover, I don't know of a sinker that is 100% snagfree. Use the least amount of weight as possible to get the job done in cover.

  • the average fisherman prob dont have them tools

  • why not?

if he doesnt he can go out and get them CHEAPLY!

if you do any ammount of fishing, it will pay for itself in a couple months.

  • not too fast @ first, so i use the torch on it, but once you got some melted lead it will melt the new lead you add QUICK

  • Great video Paul, I'm gonna have to give this a try, save some money out here on the river on losing sinkers lol.5 stars

  • great how to videos man, just subscibed and hope to try most of them out! keep it up man and thanks for the tips!

  • thanks for watchin..... and subscribing, be sure to tell a friend

  • well i got to say, you got to lighten up...

i can care less if you like my hat or not, or even my tattoos for that matter... maybe you should worry about yourself instead of others!

  • lol

  • thats awesome, i gotta get one. im gettin into catfishin

  • nice man, i gotta get me one of these, gonna subscribe man!

  • awesome vid!!

  • I like the video, I need one myself. Walmart sale them premade for about 5.00 only 3 to 5 in the pack for those size. Keep up the work.

  • where do you get these?

  • you can get the molds/melter @ bass Pro, or order them online

  • what about the Lead?

  • well bass pro sells that too, but its EXPENSIVE!

i get my lead outta car batteries, and old tire weights

  • How do you get lead out of a car battery can you maybe post a link of a video of how to do it please

  • i dont have any batteries, or time to take to make a video on it...

you drill a few holes in bottom of battery (to let acid drain)

then simply cut the battery open, and remove lead (i use a skill saw)

  • Nice sinker maker

  • yea.. sure is nicer than my old way (pot on a propane stove)

  • hey im gettin a custom mold made ! maybe you could help me make some jigs?

  • SURE THING! just let me know

  • Man I'm sure you know what you're doing and I'm really enjoying your vids and everything. I'm learning a lot and appreciate everything you're doing here, but you might want to rethink handling and breathing all this lead. Being fearless is one thing, but ignoring the facts is another.

    Anyway, thanks for the tutorials...

  • thanks for the concern, but i guess you didnt notice i was outdoors. trust me i wouldnt risk my health, and i specify... "be sure to do in a well ventilated area"

  • Hi there,

Could a person use this melter to make 8 and 10 oz. weights? I love how easy it looks to use but would be making a lot of 8 oz. weights.

  • i make 6's and 8's also. it's good for anything, any size, anytime!

  • The only problem you may encounter with larger sinker molds(3 oz and larger)using a bottom pouring lead melter is they may appear wrinkled when they come out of the mold. This is due to the lead cooling before the mold is filled completely(you can see this in the video). The hot lead isn't filling the mold fast enough but it is just appearance though the sinkers work fine!! About the tire weights, if you are using a small jig mold MAKE SURE TO USE SOFT LEAD ONLY!! Hard lead can damage mold!!

  • good points.

the hotter the mold gets the "smoother" the sinkers get.

to me it doesnt matter, the fish dont seem to mind. lol

    thanks for the tips!

  • Nice videos man!!! Keep this good stuff coming!!! I just purchased 60lbs of high quality soft lead off ebay at approx. $1/lb now I know $60 is alot to spend on LEAD but it came in the mail nicely packaged and I won't be running out of lead anytime soon;) LOL

  • i just thought id tell everyone car batteries are a cheap way to get a bunch of led just be careful

  • some may have more than others in them, but we cut one open, and it wasnt worth the trouble... not to mention the smell the lead has from being in acid.

tire weights is where i get most of my lead

  • but tire weights are nasty, and require you to clean the lead before making sinkers (melt them down, and pour ingots)

  • whats the deal with those bank sinkers? some people told me they dont snag as easy, i only use them surf fishing.

  • I mainly use them for my 3 way rig, but they can be used on a slip sinker rig as well

(i think they find the bottom easier, but thats about it.. they snag up just as much as others... thats why i use that "sacraficial rig" that you can see in my how to's)

  • great video it sure beat the old method you used

  • get-r-dun anyway possible

  • cool how too vid.save some $.most places are sellin non lead sinkers-they suck-got to get me a mold

  • if you get a mold be sure to get a melter too. makes things alot easier

  • i forgott cool ass vid thow

  • a good video-save money

  • saves ALOT of money!!!

  • I used to make a shit load in a little inclosed building. I'm lucky i ain't goofier than i am. Used a lot of lead, snagging at Ky dam.

  • i hear ya

  • nice cop sound effects cool vid

  • those are REAL COPS! i live in the hood remember
