Ma'am Cecile, Where is the video of mayon fantasy and ang larawan in facebook? I can't find it anymore . I used to watch that video in FB before chatting because it relaxes my mind.
It is so unfortunate that so many of the present generation of young Filipinos, the below 35 years old, have barely heard of Ms. Licad, much more appreciate her. Most likely because she has spent most of her time abroad where classical music is more appreciated by the masses. SAYANG .... if she can only be here more often, it will give classical music appreciation a much needed boost. Kaya lang sabi nga - one has to earn a decent living and pag sa Pinas ka lang .. ehhh medyo gutom nga.
@bobosierap like piano teachers, they sing through (not solfeggio) like parampampam pampam (in legato playing). . . blah blah . . . or ta ta ta ta ta (in staccato playing).
i too love Filipino classical composer. Cecile Licad, can you help me how to buy the original piece of the piece Larawan. Im based here in Toronto and I want to play that here to impress my friends who are now discovering how beautiful the soul of our nation when I played Buencamino's Luha.
wow that is all i can say, her technical mastery of the piano is just superb and very inspiring... someday i would just be like cl.. bravo cl mabuhay ang mga pilipino
Although the recording is not so good, still NO ONE living or dead or will ever live, can play this piece as superbly as Cecile Licad. Filipinos could weep with pride and joy that such a pianist ever came from a small country.
Yes! the other great pianists never played this, i wish they have so we can listen to different interpretations. Rubinstein was to Chopin because he's polish. Arrau and Cziffra to Liszt because Martin Krause was Liszt's student who taught Arrau and maybe because Cziffra was Hungarian. And Cecile to Sonatas and Filipino pieces, because Rudolf Serkin taught her and she's Filipino! she can play pretty much anything. very proud of her.

Joey, were you there? Levi and Jojo. BTW, nakita namin si John sa outlet sa Vegas. Small world.
To Sinji, Cecil Licad is the most accomplished Filipino pianist. She's got a lot of recordings. She's based in NY, USA.

beyond technical demands, which imo are considerable in this piece, there is poetry which requires understanding which few understand or possess.
compositionally this piece reminds me of some liszt transcriptions.
wish i'd had a grandpa half so talented.

I love the fact that she plays compositions
by Filipino composers (this one was by her
grandfather from her mother's side) when she
performs abroad. I want so hear/see her
play Kasilag's "Mayon Fantasy".

I haven't heard of Kasilag's Mayon Fantasy but I do know that she frequently plays Buencamino's Mayon Fantasy as encores.
al940035 4 years ago
I am not familiar of Kasilag's Mayon Fantasy. The Mayon by her grand uncle, Francusco Buencamino, is the most popular one.
