i take it you've never seen dinosaur jr live? for a venue the size of a subway jay will play through a minimum of 3 amps, and lou usually has one on either side of the drum riser. a backup isn't quite hard to find

he's got two amps as far as i can see on the video. having one amp blown may cause a huge different in stage sound, probably enough to cause diffuculties hearing his own bass good enough.
