1:17 the same thing happened to me on a car fire, didnt have my chin strap fastened all the way and fell of going round the back of the car, guys at the department road me for it the rest of the week!
Funny, seems like the fire was bigger as they were walking away. My VFD wouldn't be inside that kind of fire with or without our helmets. Abandoned buildings don't count for much, we have families that need us more. Take care of the Firefighters first! Bluff Chief
can someone please tell me where I can find some pictures of the tiller in the begining of this video. The side of the truck says Excelsior hook and ladder and no matter how hard I search on the web, I still can't find it. Any help would be great!
Excelsior H&L was one of the four volunteer companies that was rolled into a village wide fire department in Freeport (LI) New York. The village's 2 engine companies are still separate volunteer organizations, but housed in the same station. Excelsior is housed with the village's heavy resque squad at a restored downtown station.
I still cant beleive the nozzle mans helmet falls off.Freeze the video when the officer enters in front of the attack team. Scary to think what could happen in that split second. But thats all it takes.
thats how accidents and injuries, especially deaths of our brother firefighters occur. (not all injuries or deaths). I just mean thats a percentage of bad stuff that happens. When I was just starting out in the fire biz, my capt at the time told me, when I get on scene (I was scene support ops, not interior ops) to take a few seconds to take a deep breathe, look over the situation (to control the adrenaline rush and to ensure all my gear is on properly). That tip has really helped me.
i wouldnt go into a fire with any of these guys. no chin strap. the "officer" puts himself in front of the hoseteam. no roof ladder for doing vertical ventilation. nomex hood is over the facemask and not on the neck. going into a fire with the low air alarm going off. this dept is gona get ppl killed
Bad video, No chinstrap strapped on his helment, going into the fire with your low-alarm bell going off, doing vertical ventilation with no roof ladder, going up the extension ladder without someone footing it....Bad....1 Star*
What was that music VERY COOL! just kidding... no really though I wonder if the boys from FDNY Engine 41 like there station being used for a video that is not them.

Another mistake: improper roof cut...unless you want to fall in? I hope this is not part of a training video!

I have to agree with the last two posters, a lot of sloppy and dangerous practices in that crew.
