Good review. My own experience with Trappist beers is limited to the Chimay brands and Westmalle. It's certainly something I'd like to investigate further.

@ctalbot2008 Thanks. Chimay and Westmalle both make great beer. This beer was a bit of a disappointment, just because it wasn't nearly as flavorful as I expected it to be.

Honestly, I consider this one of my all-time favourites, even when it's young. But this is a beer you either love or hate. It all depends on taste. If you don't like it, I personally wouldn't fault you for that. Orval is pretty strange, and isn't really even like most other Trappist brews.

You were drinking it young thats all.... you really don't know much about Orval after having it 1 time you need to get to know it. Drink it at different ages. The owner of Russian River has this at his #1 beer of all time.
