    And I fucking love it!

  • @allyboycaley Fuck jimmy page, it's Jonny Greenwood bitch.

  • How the hell does he get that sound? What kind of effects?

  • that solo explains ''anyone can play guitar'' !!!! hahahahaha

  • 3:13 "shit lads, jonny overheated again, just keep playing pretend its part of the song"

  • 'Kin awesome

  • happy 40th birthday jonny:)

  • it's like the sound when my computer crashes

  • La mejor banda del mundo actualmente

  • Wow

  • HOW THE FUCK DOES HE DO THAT?

  • Like a newer Robert Fripp.

  • anyone got tabs for that? :D

  • @suljo1004 Check my guitar pro tab on Ultimate guitar :)

  • 2:58 Oh God he's doing it again

  • how the hell did Jonny do that?

  • that soloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • all day sleeping and enjoying away from everything love dreaming

  • seriously, how does he get that sound? what effect?

  • @0DwightMcCarthy0 It's through Max/MSP. Yesterday I found that someone called Ryan Snook tried to replicate it and I tried it out. Absolutely amazing. Someone posted the code at thegearpage (dot) net/archive/index (dot) php/t-233087 (dot) html. Paste the code into max and you're good to go.

I modified it the tiniest bit (rerouting I/Os) to get it working with Ableton, and "my version" (I take zero credit) is on dropbox. PM me for the link because putting links in youtube comments is annoying.

  • @TehSlothman Same goes for anyone else if you want the .amxd (ableton max something) file.

  • lol dial up haha

  • He activates a Boos Line Selector which sends his guitar signal through his Macbook Pro which is running a software called Max/MSP. This software has been programmed by Jonny himself to arbitrarily cut up milliseconds of his signal and play it back in a jittery and erratic manner.

  • @PhantomOnTheHorizon Thanks for that. I was really, really, really curios.

  • @PhantomOnTheHorizon Jonny have the programming technique? Awesome!!

  • My new ringtone.

  • @antisadism I want that ringtone

  • @coolconfuzer - good call! it's the same as born under punches

  • There's 37 twenty-four carrat cunts out there!

  • I think this solo just represents the modern era in epic amazing beast solos

  • Is Jonny playing a guitar or a NES at the end?

  • is jonny's solo done with his akai headrush?

  • Can anybody esxplainme this solo?

  • I like Jonny's solo, cause i pretty sure, i can't do that!

  • BORN UNDER PUNCHES PEOPLE!!!!! WAKE THE FUCK UP! THATS A FUCKING SOLO.

  • I can sound like that guitar solo when I play with my toes.

  • Who would dare parody the greatest band of the 21st century?

    /watch?v=daF_uJTPykA

  • So I've been playing and singing this song in my room for the past two weeks, on my acoustic plugged into my Fishman. Yesterday, I told myself: "I'm pretty good at this song. I could probably get away with playing this live." Then I hear Thom sing and play the first 10 seconds and I realize: "Nope. Not even close."

  • @AreaCode978 hahaha this comment describes my musical abilities to the T.

  • @AreaCode978 He has such a unique voice, doesn't he? You should still cover it! Make it your own!

  • seems to me that here we have the beatles of this relatively new musical era

  • Probably one of the best solo's I've ever seen in my life.

  • @exarady your fucking retarted, thats the worst solo i have ever seen in my life.

  • I've only watched this about 485,000 times

  • Johnny Greenwood makes other guitar players look like just another guitar player -- he's the god, like it or not :)

  • jonny greenwood has composed many classical pieces. so if you want to go around saying he doesn't know any scales, make sure YOU know what you're talking about.

  • I'd go gay for johnny just because of this solo

  • I've just realized, you could use Max/MSP with a guitar and create a sort of "organic" dubstep....now the only question is why would you want to do that...

  • I'm pretty sure what jonny is trying to do is make his guitar sound like it's glitching. And I love it. He's not trying to stay in a specific scale or key or whatever.

  • Everytime I watch the solo, I just sit and smile, it's just fun when people experiment with music, even though it might not be the most technical or objectively good music pieces. It sure is unique and god that own personal touch to it. Go Jonny go!

  • The solo sounds like an arcade game.

  • Jump Colin Jump!!! :)

  • Best...solo...ever.... Agree with all that identified the "Internet dialup" sould. So funny! This guy a true genius. May I remind the "scale" dude, that Gilmour was doing this stuff in the early seventies (watch Live in Pompeii). There's nothing wrong with expression through erratic sounds when they contribute to song.

  • Jonny might be one of the most inventive musicians ever....he's beyond guitar player.....

  • Comment removed

  • 37 people went to sleep

  • jonny is a genius

  • whoever disliked must have missed johnny playing at the end

  • @Alwaystuned. i'm happy you two are talking --- s'wonderful! sleep well, my friend.

  • Sounds like the old dial up tone, its so good!

  • everybody can make this solo but not anybody had idea to make this sound~~

this is what we called creative not big dick :DD

  • what effect does Jonny use for the solo?, I'm bloody keen to know :)

  • @ant24794

It's a sampler delay controlled by a trigger system

I can get a very similar effect with my boss DSD-2.

    Look into that, great effect.

  • @FallDownDontGetUp cheers man, I shall. When I first heard it my reaction was a 'I gotta get that sound kinda thing'. It sounds brilliant, cheers for helping me out man otherwise I'd spend ages scratching my head over it :)

  • @FallDownDontGetUp Isn't it a Max/MSP program? I could be totally wrong about that - i don't know a heap about effects, I just thought I'd seen a video of Jonny talking about using Max/MSP to get those sort of stutters etc.

  • Awesome !

  • You can't take the solo out of the song to analyze, it's supposed to suit the song which it does really well

  • that solo is the 90's internet sound hah

  • that is one awesome way to finish a song!

  • it's chaotic, unstructured , but it fits the song .

it's just his style , he shouldn't give a shit for people who don't like his solo moreover for that scale reason... guitarists have their own character, and for me (due to music industry) being unique like Jonny is better than being one of many shredder picks 32th note at 200bpm and heard all the same... You can't make solo like this in guitar pro...

  • Shoot 'em up, Johnny !

  • whenever thom yorke does his little head shake.. shit gets real

  • also note that Ed wrote the beginning guitar riff!! just saying...

  • WOW. That's all i have to say.

  • You know what it is is that Jonny's solos never are too intricate or clear cut, it always just sounds fun to play. You know?

Paranoid Android is about as involved as his solos get (musically at least,) but you can tell in this case he really loved the effect (he made? Max/MSP?) and how it sounded and it was straight up fun to use...I don't know. To me Jonny was always about expression rather than "Look how fast these three notes are being PLAYED."

  • that solo reminded me of those "insert artists name here" shreds videos. terrible.

  • They're like 2 cute kids fighting for atention

  • @tenchatamales who?

  • THUMBS UP FOR THE MOST ELEGANT DRUMMER EVER!!!!

  • Jonny Greenwood's solo celebrates two mainstays of my upbringing: Alternate Rock and Dial up internet.

  • @WillsMP92 LMFAO !

  • @WillsMP92 That's not a solo, he's talking to his guitar in MIDI

  • LOL, this is why i love Radiohead. They are totally beyond the average American.

  • @YoMamaBeenLurkin

that´s because they are british :P

  • @YoMamaBeenLurkin

So, what, you won the first-world lottery through no fault nor effort of your own, and now you want to lord it over the less educated? At least Radiohead aren't smug asses about being lucky enough to grow up privileged in an extremely intellectually rich area. Go breathe water, fuckwit.

P.S. Not like Britain doesn't have its share of fat, ignorant, channel-surfing rednecks... I'm sure the band would totally stand behind your knee-jerk, nationalist sentiments.

  • @YoMamaBeenLurkin Don't knock all of Americans. There are plenty who "get" radiohead

  • not the best solo but creative

  • Jonny tore that shit up with his ending solo!

  • 3:08 that stuff be blowing me...its sounds like the 80's video games!!!

  • Jonny was tearing that guitar up at 2:46...3:08 !!!!! wtf?!?!?! AWESOME!!!!

  • what its that a delay with a computer? that was freaking awesome

  • This is Hendrix Approved

  • @HendrixApproved yeah:: and he's got and A

  • The thing is, guys, is that he's making "random noises" and he's able to make them sound good. And that is something that shredders can't do.

  • was that a guitar solo or did someone's car alarm from the 80's go off?

  • lol, this solo is just really bad. Anyone could make that.

  • @GuitarShred07 Your name + your comment = EPIC FAIL

  • @GuitarShred07 i've noticed you have multiple comments. if it sucks so bad why do you keep coming back? modern day genius. yeah page or whoever you icon had some amazing solos but you can't really compare this to anyone, which speaks volumes itself. a completely unique guitarist after decades before him.

  • Rolling stone is stupid sometimes. Jonny's rated 59 and Jimi Hendrix 1. This solo kicks Jimi's ass, so hard. don't get me wrong, Jimi is awesome too.

  • @etejuanete3 I think it also includes time, Hendrix was long before greenwood and Rolling stone takes time very seriously.

  • @antisadism

yeah.. I know, Jimi was the first ofthe gratest guitarrists, but sometimes I feel he's a little overrrated. He's not the best of all time anymore.

  • You just know these metalheads are unemployed big guys who have insane hair styles and think metal kicks ass and anything thats girly automatically sucks.

  • i love this solo its like computer when it crahes and the picture its all blurry and it shuts down

  • yes.

  • Jonny could make soundtrack to starwars only with his guitar.

  • My favorite Radiohead song.

  • Holy shit. That's some of the craziest guitar playing I've seen in a long long time.

  • guitar solo sucks

  • @GuitarShred07 go shred your cock XD

  • @GuitarShred07 Uneducated Redneck. Metal has no class.

  • @GuitarShred07 Go suck a fat metalhead's dick

  • How did he do that with his guitar? Mine only makes guitar noises!

  • if someone could tell me the episode this aired on.. I'd love to see who else was on Jools at this time.. unfortunately for them RH is the best band in the world

  • AWEful AWEful haha

no but inventive very inventive solo

  • @facecheek Its just the way you look at it .

  • I think the guitar solo was very inventive, just like Radiohead.

  • @architypexhero

Mister, your comment implies that Jonny Greenwood doesn't know any scales which is a really ridiculous statement, fact is he is a versatile guitarist, respected everywhere, he plays exactly what he wants to play, if this solo sounds like this, it's because he wanted it to sound like that!

Your comment is based on your taste, so please stop mixing facts with questions of your taste..

  • @MyBottletree Agreed. You don't become the BBC's composer in residence by not knowing your scales. Anyone who's heard his work on the soundtrack to There Will Be Blood would know that not only does he have a very deep musical knowledge, but he's capable of creatively pushing harmony into interesting new directions. He really knows his stuff!

  • @MyBottletree doesn't know any scales? and he's writing orchestral music? ha

the solo in just is a scale itself. just one that op doessn't know, the 8-tone scale.

  • @jorgepeterbarton

Please read my post entirely...and notice that I answered somebody who posted that "Jonny Greenwood should learn some scales"

  • @MyBottletree yer. that was the sound of someone agreeing with you.

  • @jorgepeterbarton

    Sorry mate, did'nt get it...

  • @architypexhero it's a great solo, it's not a conventional one, so it may sound awful for some people, like you. go listen malmsteen, he surely plays using a scale, it's as interesting as a nail can be. Jonny Greenwood writes music, so he knows a lot of scales and that stuff. Check Paranoid Android's solo.

  • @architypexhero haha your funny. asshole..

  • @architypexhero said someone who also said "god awefull". You should probably learn to spell and type english properly before typing an awful comment out of your butt

  • @architypexhero Being the lead composer for the BBC network I think he probably knows "some scales".

  • @architypexhero You missed the point entirely, sorry to say. If you're looking for proof of Johnny's musicality, listen to the string arrangement on 'How To Disappear Completely.'

  • @architypexhero

why all solos had to got scales? that sucks man, those who use scales i think are assholes that thinks "oh i wanna do that to impress people!" and Jonny doesn't give a fuck about that

  • JONNY IS THE ONLY HUMAN BEING IN THE WORLD WHO CAN DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT

IT WOULD BE INSULTING TO SAY HE IS AWESOME

  • JONNY GREENWOOD MAKE HIS SOLOS IN 3D

  • @Satiaraha Thats fucking hilarious!

  • this is amazing!

I dont really know how the program works though..can someone sum it up really quick for me? what determines which noise is made or what pattern?

  • Huh and I thought a guitar solo implied something musical.

  • tha was the most bullshit solo ive ever heard.

  • @alphabetterthanu Anyone can play guitar

  • @geurgeury and they won't be a nothing anymore :)

  • Comment removed

  • @geurgeury anyone can do that too, its just a matter of why would you?

  • @alphabetterthanu If by "bullshit" you mean highly inventive and wildy superior to the vast majority of guitar playing out there today then yes, I think we all can agree!

  • @alphabetterthanu You have no taste, if you insist on listening to the same old thing then why are you even bothering to listen to music...

  • @MrTimothyWatts i dont understand how not liking random noise means i have no taste and shouldnt listen to music, that doesnt add up.

  • @alphabetterthanu Well, what do you think the song needed?

  • Damn, how am I gonna go to sleep with that solo ??

  • i love thom's voice...

  • Type PRIZE before youtube and hit enter

  • For some reason, I REALLY want a Thom Yorke bobblehead...
