@petepenguin No they don't! the tank they use for the shows is not where they live! they live in a cell so shallow they can stand vertically on their tails with heads above the water and mouths constantly open in hopes a pelican will land there and they can get some precious nourishment/, they're segregated from any other orcas and can barely swim in a circle. I'm a former Sea World San Diego employee.
@ratgirl22003 really?!?! Wait are you talking about Seaworld San Diego or the Miami Sea Aquarium? Because Orlando seaworld has a pretty large sized tank for dine with shamu and the underwater viewing.

"Lolita is NOT Keiko. Both their situations are completely different."
Yes, you are right, Keiko is dead. I think that if they released Lolita, it would just be Keiko all over again. Following boats and chasing them, then again Keiko never stuck with a pod, but will Lolita? We don't know.
Keiko died from a disease that many wild orcas get - pneumonia. He survived 2 years, which is a success for an animal that had been captive for so long. He hunted his own food, even socialised with other whales.
but they didn't know where keikos pod was they just had a basic idea. they know where lolita's pod is! hers is the L pod over in washington state they even have her on the L pods family chart. her mother is still alive even!
what!! now this is dumb! i just read all of the comments. SHES ALONE YOU MORONS!!at least bring her a friend and put them in a tank for two whales not for 1 dolphin!! or if they cant do that free her into the wild!!! i personally and alot of other people are strongly against the fact that shes still in a tank and that she should be let free!! this is just torture!!!!! let me put you in a cell for 30 years and make you jump up and down and do the same dumb thing over and over >:( see how u feel!
If you read all of my comments (like you said you did), you would realize that I think moving her to a larger tank and putting her in with some other Orcas to socialize would be the best thing for her. I guess I'll have to repeat myself....
"I would want nothing more than to have her taken out of that pathetic excuse of a tank, as you so rightly put it."
Maybe you should think before jumping on peoples backs. It's very rude. Also, so some research.
well they can't build her a new tank. miami sea prison is not aloud to. also to socialize her they would have to get orcas from her pod and sense she is the only one still alive in captivity they cant do that either. also the aquariums have a breeding program but miami seaprison as been denied membership
now what they are planing to do if they free her is release her into a sea pen and rehabilitate her. then they want to slowly reintroduce her into her pod. first by sound communication, then visual and finally by letting her be with them. they are also going to let her have access to the sea pen when ever she wants so she can still be cared for by people if she wants. i think that this is a smart way to do it and that she will be ok.
I've learned a little more about it recently, I think they have learned a great deal from Keiko's release. If they can actually find her pod (since her mother is still alive) and if they can get her to survive on her own she could perhaps survive. The least they could do now (if not that) is take her out of that goldfish bowl.
yeah well they know where here pod is they are one of three pods that are around washington state. yeah i would love for them to do that two but they just give you stupid comments like she is to old and a she is to use to this tank to be moved which is total bull cause she is in her 40's and on of the orcas that are in the washington area are in their mid 90's and is still going strong!well at lest her tank is bigger then what they had hugo in for two years which is now the manatee exhibit!!!
I watched the Lolita film and it was very very sad. I was expecting it to be extremely biased with a group of crazy animal rights people, but it really wasn't that bad. I liked it how they presented more facts than personal feelings.
I watched a documentary fairly recently that had filmed Keiko and his release. His story seems to have been dramatized by the media (positively and negatively). In one clip you see keiko sleeping with his toys all around him in the corner of his sea pen, it kinda reminded me of a child that sleeps with their stuffed animals or their favorite blanket.
Ocean Adventures: Sea Ghosts and Call of the Killer Whale, a movie REALLY worth watching.
i haven't seen any of those yet but i will look for them. you should really watch Lolita a Slave to Entertainment. its really good and worth watching it gives you a lot of good information!
I'll add it to my Netflix queue. This documentary is kinda biased in parts but it's still really interesting and it's nice to see the steps they took for Keiko's release. When he found a pod of Orcas he immediately swam to them at full speed, when he got too close he freaked out and turned around to hide next to the boat. The other whales were acting very aggressive towards him and he just didn't know what to do.
wow you wouldn't think that would happen! also another big difference between lolita and keiko is that he was really young when taken from his pod. lolita was around 4 years old soo she should have already been taught how to hunt. i think they are also doing things differently buy slowly introducing her to the pod.
that looks really interesting. can you rent those? you can watch Lolita slave to entertainment at change. org just do a search on the site and it will come up.
oh thats pretty nice to have! i could maybe get my grandmother to rent them threw her movie rental place. have you heard of the new one coming out called "The Cove"?
The whale would die upon release. She is too people friendly, read up on the story of Keiko would you. I don't know where you are from but they don't capture wild Orcas for parks in America anymore. I believe that the capture of wild whales is wrong, but surely you aren't ignorant enough to believe we could 'set her free' now. You would kill that whale!
Lolita is NOT Keiko. Both their situations are completely different.
And who are you to say she would die? She's a wild animal, not a stupid lap dog like Miami SeaPrison makes her out to be. She recognises the calls of her pod, she has already learnt to hunt, she can use echolocation. I, like many other thousands of people, organisations, celebrities and senators, believe she can survive.
If she could survive, then she would be chasing boats around, just like every other whale they have tried to release. If there is a way that could be found to release her without killing her, I say great. I could care less that senators/celebrities/organization/etc...think that this whale will live, because they aren't the ones that could REALLY KNOW if the whale could survive. Too many animal rights groups often have no idea what they are talking about.
Oh really? What makes you so sure of that? Now why would she go chasing boats when they're the things that chased her family down and captured her in Penn Cove...
And she's not THAT old for a killer whale - she's around 40... generally orcas can live to 80 in the wild. She's still got the other half of her life to go.
Oh wait, I forgot. If you set her free Miami Seaquarium won't make any money and no one will ever get to see her again in that pathetic excuse of a tank... my bad.
I would want nothing more than to have her taken out of that pathetic excuse of a tank, as you so rightly put it. Captivity is all that whale has known for over 30 years, people is all she has known for a very long time. I would assume that the whale would associate boats with people, many whales do. Keiko followed a boat all the way to Norway, where he was found with little kids crawling all over him next to the boat. When they found him, he was thin and due to his condition he got pneumonia.
Lolita still recognises her pods calls; and orca pods are known to accept and recognise family members that may have been separated.
There are many successful cases of animals being captured and released some time later... granted, Lolita has been in captivity for a very long time, however surely it is a better change to her situation now.
Orcas live about the same time as humans. Lolita was taken from her mother at about age 6. Ask any human mother if she remembers a child taken from her at age 6.....obviously yes. So when Miami Seaquarium say that she can't be put in a sea pen to talk to her pod because they would not remember her ...it is trash. MR Hertz needs to stop being so greedy and allow Lolita some dignity. Let her go.The world is watching how Miami treats this animal. Free her!
Oh my god, the drama. Seriously, quite fighting over who is smarter, and let's try to get this whale out of that shitty fishbowl. I live in Florida, and it's an embarrassment that the Miami park is even still open. Those pricks need thier heads bashed in for doing this to Lolita. She doesn't deserve it and neither do any of the other whales this state has in captivity. Ugh. I just wish people would wake the fuck up and free these animals. It's a sickening display of human ignorance and greed.
Dolphins and whales only come to love trainers and other humans because they are DESPERATE for social interaction. Not to mention the starvation tactics they use to train them. poor, poor lolita. better she die in the wild where she belongs.
People seem to think, just because her living space is small, that she's dying and suffering. It's not like shes totally neglected. Her trainers and the people who come to visit her love her, and her trainers do everything they can to care for her. The trainers 100% love Lolita because, the trainers are getting paid less than $15 an hour to work with her! That's no money! You really have to love doing what your doing! Lolita is fine, believe it or don't. If she wasn't fine, SHE'D BE DEAD!
uhm... people clean toilets for less money... and enough dolphins and killer whales have killed themselfes at SW, Miami Sequarium and other places. Just because an animal is not desperate enough to take that step doesnt mean it doesnt suffer. People and animals all over the world are in misery, now saying everybody who is alive must be happy is denying their right to suffer and even their right to stay alive inspite of that suffering.
THINK before you speak moron. You have to be educated and go to college to be an orca trainer. People who clean toilets dont. Jobs like that are for people who are desperate for money. MORON. Anyone would hire a toilet cleaner. NOT A TRAINER.
Hey, I was just trying to show you a flaw in your arguments. dont insult me. And yes, swimming in a pool and working with animals probably is a fun job. And thats why the trainers would do anything to keep that job, wether its good for the animal or not. And now, please refrain from calling me names.
"Amazing how you can get into her head and know that she's "avoiding guests"...Oh wait, you can't. :P"
None of you people know anything. Lolita is fine, and us smart ones know it. This whale has been here for 38 long years! She has fully adapted to her life. Even 30 years would do it, but NO. 38 YEARS. All of you people can complain about this tank, but ya know what? Your useless protesting and whining over it will go NO WHERE.
okey if she was mad or hated someone why would u still do the show and i'd be mad to if someone stop feeding me hasen't your mom gave you like 2 cookies and said no more god stupid hippies
yeah .. now seaworld on the other hand does a much better job .. and cares for the whales so much .. that the orcas love it soo much there .. u can tell they love it .. the fact that she wont come up is a sign that she isnt happy with all the people around etc ...
yeah did u hear bout in seattle and stuf they set up that place for lolita to be trained for wild .. that was like early 2008 or end of 2007 or possibly before .. but still the seaquarium ent agreed to let her go ! <:( its so Cruel!!
And plus they did tests to see if lolita remebers her mothers call .. and she does .. which mean she'll probably be accepted by the family if she returns!!
Oh yeah i memba that now .. its jsut stupid and cruel .. they just want her .. cos they think they'll earn more profit in keeping her .. MSQ should just be shut down and have lolita moved !
I wonder why she didn't go up to everyone. Her take borders are certainly not that high. If she went right up to them people would be able to touch her.
watching an orca perform in a small tank is not educational, it is like watching a man in solitary confinement. Not natural. When the crowds go home , Lolita swims alone, no family to nuzzle, no orca to talk to. What a sad sad life
If you want to see Orcas -- see them in the wild it is much more of an experience then to see them in a small tank -- Come to Washington and you will be amazed... Lolita needs to be freed from her SMALL tank - it breaks my heart
Sony have recently released an ad for their cameras which was shot in Miami ( where Lolita is held captive)Maybe if fewer companies supported Miami because of Lolita and took their big dollars elsewhere then Miami would be forced by public opinion to release her. If you want to make a comment on Sony's feedback page. If lots of people say the same thing maybe someone will tell Miami Seaquarium that they need to improve life for Lolita!
poor darling. she is got to be the strongest soul on earth to deal with these fullish humans and how clueless they are. id do everything i can to get her into a bigger environment.FREE LOLITA!Shes not giving up hope for us to help her. we must try everything we can. Dont give up. please. we are her last hope.
lol...what are you fuckin retarded?! Where did you get that information from?! MIAMI SEAPRISON?! LOL wow learn your goddamn facts before you go and shoot things off. SHE IS GIVEN VITAMENS. DUH
yes along WITH her VITAMINS (btw u spelled that WRONG)I know this, I know personally one of the trainers who works with Lolita. She knows personally that they give her these because she has to feed them to her in her food along with her daily vitamins. BTW I'm not 'retarded' you shouldn't jump to conclusions when you hardly know someone, especially when they have a higher GPA then you.
u think its OK? U think I'm going to forgive you for offending me and my intelligence because you say that you were just kidding? no, just no, I'm sorry but that just doesn't work for me. It may work on others, but not me
well it doesnt work on me either. u hurt my feelings too. ya know what. im just gunna go cry in my bed. because u hurt my feelings. im sad. and ya know?! i have intelligence too and people have just shamed me too!!!! and if i offended you, im sorry, because i know how you feel!!!
well, I think u should learn that life isnt always fair and I never said you didnt have intelligence. dont put words in my mouth. also go cry, IDC cuz ur not the one crying herself to sleep each night
Yes, Lolita has lived an amazingly long time for a captive orca. She is a survivor and an exception. In the wild, the average orca lives to be 40 (males) - 60 (females) years old. Some of Lolita's female relatives in the Southern Resident population have lived far, far longer than 60 years.
If you add together the months that each late orca spent in captivity, then divide that total by the number of known orcas which have died or been stillborn in marine parks, the mathematics say that, historically, captive orcas have lived for an average of 5 years each. Not an impressive argument for captivity.
Please note that there are some days were the Miami Seaquarium is FREE to the public (i.e. President's Day) and perhaps this video was shot before the person knew Lolita's situation was not proper. And also, if you complain to the park, claiming to be totally unsatisfied - they WILL give you a full refund.. I've heard all the little tricks about this stuff.
I want to assure CaptiveOrcas that the woman who took the footage of Lolita is not a "hypocrit"*. She is an ex-animal trainer for movies and television who made the informed decision to abandon her career after deciding that certain aspects of her livelihood were not in the best interest of the animals being used and exploited. This woman DID NOT give a single penny to the Miami Seaquarium. She even found somebody to drop her off and pick her up so she would not have to pay the parking fee.
A more hypocritical statement, perhaps, is where you say in your profile "... I Agree With Marine Parks. As Long As The Animals Are Not Captured From The Wild." If this sentiment is true, you should be enraged by Lolita's cruel capture in 1970, and horrified by the many orcas that died during the round-up, just so we could spend the next 38 years being amused by Lolita jumping around in her tiny tank.
(*Just a helpful hint - if you want people to take your viewpoints seriously, you might try paying more attention to your spelling and grammar. If you did not learn these skills in school, be aware that 'spell check' programs are readily available on most computers. If you sound ignorant (whether you are or not), others will doubt your credibility.)
Aww..Lolita, living a great life with her dolphin friends and loving trainers and amazed guests admiring her..Such a beautiful animal. Lolita is cared for very well, her tank may be small but she recieves care far beyond those tank walls. why else is she still alive today? Not all animals can live 38 years abused according to some anti's. Lolita lives a great and healthy life and half of the losers that read this (anti's) with amrk it as a bad comment :) hahaha
Well, let me just remind you that animals can survive in factory farms, people are surviving in Darfur, "pets" can survive in mills... Just because someone lives a long time doesn't mean their life is fulfilled and joyous. Life is about quality, not quantity. And I never said Lolita is not loved - she gets a lot of attention from her trainers - but that can never fill the void left by her family.
animals can survive in factory farms! lol, how stupid are you?? they only survive in these farms for at tops 6 months! 38 years & 6 months is a huge diffrence and somehow i knew u were going to state that pathetic, inacurate fact..lol.. :p
I ment animals can't survive in factory farms** and lol..what do you know. are you SURE that an animal living in a factory farm lives more than 10 years? lol pftt! Most animals that live in factory farms that soon go to the slaughter house DIE before they even make it out of the factory farm, living in the care of these farms less than 1 year! And even you know that..and we are talking about orca captivity..NOT the meat industry..just letting you know.. :P
peepchick101. I claim that Lolita must be taken excellent care of or else she would be dead, but you claim that animals can live on factory farms in horrible conditions for a long time too. First of all your wrong. You dont see any animal living on a factory farm more than 3 months. Most of the animals at those farms are dead within a week. You should know that. How stupid can you get? COMPARING 2 DIFFERENT THINGS IS NOT ACCURATE. THINK NIKI. Lolita is not a month old. SHES 457 MONTHS OLD.
Lolita's tank is small, but that doesn't mean shes unhappy or depressed, because if she was, she'd be dead. She recieves excellent vet care, love from her trainers, fish and her vitamens. She obviously is healthy, and in order to live to such a old age, she must be happy. Most animals with complex brains like humans and birds can die from depresstion. And i dont see LOLITA DYING.
Lolita isn't dying. She's not sick and I've said that many times.. she's quite healthy and she has all her teeth (almost). She is may be languishing and suffering, but she's not dying, physically. Mentally, she may be hurt though. You get what I mean about the animal abuse though.. even abused creatures survive - dogs in puppy mills, circus elephants, etc. It doesn't mean they are happy & lovin' life - but they are ALIVE; breathing, moving.. like Lolita! She doesn't have to be happy to be alive.
Puppy mill dogs don't live long at all. Comparing animal abuse to animal abuse is like I said inacurate. Lolita may not be happy according to you, but she is happy. Hugo wasn't happy and died young. Lolita is happy because if she wasn't she would be dead.
How can you say that she's "happy" in that stupid tank. A fuckin gold fish has a bigger tank then that. I find that comment extremely disgusting, and it obviously shows you have no respect or consideration for a whale's needs. A whale NEEDS SPACE.
Just looking at that tiny space sickens me. And don't give me bull crap how she may want to stay, she's super duper happy.
yep, fuckin-A she's happy. She sure looks it don't she!
It worries me to think that some people believe this is a perfectly fine situation for a killer whale.
Orcas are so majestic and active in the wild. In captivity, as this video, and many many others clearly show, they [the whales] mope around and float listlessly between shows and at night.. what kind of a life is that? A very sad one..
If Lolita has been in captivity for that long, she has to been well cared for. You can view mine and Carly's(CaptiveOrcas) videos regarding Lolita and other captive marine mammals and you could have a change in heart. As accourding to Orkidforever's and CaptiveOrcas's videos on Lolita, she is a litle far from "abused".
There is a big difference; please understand that. Lolita's tank is illegal to marine park standards in the USA but she is not being physically abused - example: the trainers don't hit her or starve her... they are probably kind to her but that doesn't make her "tank situation" any better =[
This issue is incredibly important to me and I would love to see Lolita be reintroduced to her family in Puget Sound. Anyone who honestly believes Lolita is happy in that tiny, chlorine-filled pool is living in the dark. Wild orcas swim 100+ miles a day - and for Lolita to do that, research shows that she would have to swim nearly 6,000 laps! It's just so sad to see her cooped up in there - hopefully she is brought back to the wild soon!
Your truthful comment?? Where was any fact in that? You had nothing substantial in that! It was just 7 words; with no evidence to back it up! And you can't use things like "Lolita's trainers feed her and care for her" because obviously they do or she would've died long ago. Animals can survive in bad situations as long as they get their basic necessities in there.
I really want to pull a '' Free Willy'' :D How cool wouldn't that be?

It's ridiculous that people support an industry that willingly destroys life, family, and tradition. Of course that's putting it nicely.
Maybe we should round up all the people involved and put them on display.

no beast i truely happy in captivity. we are to blame if it dies an early age.
ShadowXDDS 2 years ago 3
@Jelliestarry No they aren't! the tank they use for the shows is not where they live! they live in a cell so shallow they can stand vertically on their tails with heads above the water and mouths constantly open in hopes a pelican will land there and they can get some precious nourishment/, they're segregated from any other orcas and can barely swim in a circle. I'm a former Sea World San Diego employee.

Dolphinaria and aquaria routinely administer
prophylactic antibiotics and ulcer medication to captive
cetaceans.Bacterial infections are a common cause
of death in these animals. Pneumonia, which is generally
brought about by some other condition, such as stress
or a compromised immune system,is the most
commonly cited cause of death in the NMFSs Marine
Mammal Inventory Report. Naomi A. Rose PhD-2006

"Lolita is NOT Keiko. Both their situations are completely different."
Yes, you are right, Keiko is dead. I think that if they released Lolita, it would just be Keiko all over again. Following boats and chasing them, then again Keiko never stuck with a pod, but will Lolita? We don't know.
lilbluependragon 2 years ago
Keiko died from a disease that many wild orcas get - pneumonia. He survived 2 years, which is a success for an animal that had been captive for so long. He hunted his own food, even socialised with other whales.
FreedomForOrcas 2 years ago
but they didn't know where keikos pod was they just had a basic idea. they know where lolita's pod is! hers is the L pod over in washington state they even have her on the L pods family chart. her mother is still alive even!
Rucina 2 years ago
I think people should raise money to get her a larger tank, or move her to a suitable one, but 'freeing her' is stupid and irrational.
lilbluependragon 3 years ago
what!! now this is dumb! i just read all of the comments. SHES ALONE YOU MORONS!!at least bring her a friend and put them in a tank for two whales not for 1 dolphin!! or if they cant do that free her into the wild!!! i personally and alot of other people are strongly against the fact that shes still in a tank and that she should be let free!! this is just torture!!!!! let me put you in a cell for 30 years and make you jump up and down and do the same dumb thing over and over >:( see how u feel!
sexi10192 2 years ago 2
If you read all of my comments (like you said you did), you would realize that I think moving her to a larger tank and putting her in with some other Orcas to socialize would be the best thing for her. I guess I'll have to repeat myself....
"I would want nothing more than to have her taken out of that pathetic excuse of a tank, as you so rightly put it."
Maybe you should think before jumping on peoples backs. It's very rude. Also, so some research.
lilbluependragon 2 years ago
well they can't build her a new tank. miami sea prison is not aloud to. also to socialize her they would have to get orcas from her pod and sense she is the only one still alive in captivity they cant do that either. also the aquariums have a breeding program but miami seaprison as been denied membership
Rucina 2 years ago
now what they are planing to do if they free her is release her into a sea pen and rehabilitate her. then they want to slowly reintroduce her into her pod. first by sound communication, then visual and finally by letting her be with them. they are also going to let her have access to the sea pen when ever she wants so she can still be cared for by people if she wants. i think that this is a smart way to do it and that she will be ok.
post was to long so i did two.
Rucina 2 years ago
I've learned a little more about it recently, I think they have learned a great deal from Keiko's release. If they can actually find her pod (since her mother is still alive) and if they can get her to survive on her own she could perhaps survive. The least they could do now (if not that) is take her out of that goldfish bowl.
lilbluependragon 2 years ago
yeah well they know where here pod is they are one of three pods that are around washington state. yeah i would love for them to do that two but they just give you stupid comments like she is to old and a she is to use to this tank to be moved which is total bull cause she is in her 40's and on of the orcas that are in the washington area are in their mid 90's and is still going strong!well at lest her tank is bigger then what they had hugo in for two years which is now the manatee exhibit!!!

I watched the Lolita film and it was very very sad. I was expecting it to be extremely biased with a group of crazy animal rights people, but it really wasn't that bad. I liked it how they presented more facts than personal feelings.
lilbluependragon 2 years ago 3
I watched a documentary fairly recently that had filmed Keiko and his release. His story seems to have been dramatized by the media (positively and negatively). In one clip you see keiko sleeping with his toys all around him in the corner of his sea pen, it kinda reminded me of a child that sleeps with their stuffed animals or their favorite blanket.
Ocean Adventures: Sea Ghosts and Call of the Killer Whale, a movie REALLY worth watching.
lilbluependragon 2 years ago
i haven't seen any of those yet but i will look for them. you should really watch Lolita a Slave to Entertainment. its really good and worth watching it gives you a lot of good information!
Rucina 2 years ago
I'll add it to my Netflix queue. This documentary is kinda biased in parts but it's still really interesting and it's nice to see the steps they took for Keiko's release. When he found a pod of Orcas he immediately swam to them at full speed, when he got too close he freaked out and turned around to hide next to the boat. The other whales were acting very aggressive towards him and he just didn't know what to do.
lilbluependragon 2 years ago
wow you wouldn't think that would happen! also another big difference between lolita and keiko is that he was really young when taken from his pod. lolita was around 4 years old soo she should have already been taught how to hunt. i think they are also doing things differently buy slowly introducing her to the pod.

Rucina 2 years ago
The whale would die upon release. She is too people friendly, read up on the story of Keiko would you. I don't know where you are from but they don't capture wild Orcas for parks in America anymore. I believe that the capture of wild whales is wrong, but surely you aren't ignorant enough to believe we could 'set her free' now. You would kill that whale!
lilbluependragon 3 years ago
Lolita is NOT Keiko. Both their situations are completely different.
And who are you to say she would die? She's a wild animal, not a stupid lap dog like Miami SeaPrison makes her out to be. She recognises the calls of her pod, she has already learnt to hunt, she can use echolocation. I, like many other thousands of people, organisations, celebrities and senators, believe she can survive.
FreedomForOrcas 2 years ago
If she could survive, then she would be chasing boats around, just like every other whale they have tried to release. If there is a way that could be found to release her without killing her, I say great. I could care less that senators/celebrities/organization/etc...think that this whale will live, because they aren't the ones that could REALLY KNOW if the whale could survive. Too many animal rights groups often have no idea what they are talking about.
lilbluependragon 2 years ago
If you set her free Miami Seaquarium won't make any money and no one will ever get to see her again in that pathetic excuse of a tank... my bad.
FreedomForOrcas 2 years ago
I would want nothing more than to have her taken out of that pathetic excuse of a tank, as you so rightly put it. Captivity is all that whale has known for over 30 years, people is all she has known for a very long time. I would assume that the whale would associate boats with people, many whales do. Keiko followed a boat all the way to Norway, where he was found with little kids crawling all over him next to the boat. When they found him, he was thin and due to his condition he got pneumonia.
lilbluependragon 2 years ago

Free her!

RingneckDoveFan 3 years ago
uhm... people clean toilets for less money... and enough dolphins and killer whales have killed themselfes at SW, Miami Sequarium and other places. Just because an animal is not desperate enough to take that step doesnt mean it doesnt suffer. People and animals all over the world are in misery, now saying everybody who is alive must be happy is denying their right to suffer and even their right to stay alive inspite of that suffering.
Seppeline5 3 years ago 2
THINK before you speak moron. You have to be educated and go to college to be an orca trainer. People who clean toilets dont. Jobs like that are for people who are desperate for money. MORON. Anyone would hire a toilet cleaner. NOT A TRAINER.
RingneckDoveFan 3 years ago
Hey, I was just trying to show you a flaw in your arguments. dont insult me. And yes, swimming in a pool and working with animals probably is a fun job.

Good debate!
Continued in next post ...
savetheorcasinc 4 years ago
If you add together the months that each late orca spent in captivity, then divide that total by the number of known orcas which have died or been stillborn in marine parks, the mathematics say that, historically, captive orcas have lived for an average of 5 years each. Not an impressive argument for captivity.

She even found somebody to drop her off and pick her up so she would not have to pay the parking fee.
savetheorcasinc 4 years ago
A more hypocritical statement, perhaps, is where you say in your profile "... I Agree With Marine Parks. As Long As The Animals Are Not Captured From The Wild." If this sentiment is true, you should be enraged by Lolita's cruel capture in 1970, and horrified by the many orcas that died during the round-up, just so we could spend the next 38 years being amused by Lolita jumping around in her tiny tank.
savetheorcasinc 4 years ago

CaptiveOrcas 4 years ago 2
Well, let me just remind you that animals can survive in factory farms, people are surviving in Darfur, "pets" can survive in mills... Just because someone lives a long time doesn't mean their life is fulfilled and joyous. Life is about quality, not quantity. And I never said Lolita is not loved - she gets a lot of attention from her trainers - but that can never fill the void left by her family.
peepchick101 4 years ago 4
animals can survive in factory farms! lol, how stupid are you?? they only survive in these farms for at tops 6 months! 38 years & 6 months is a huge diffrence and somehow i knew u were going to state that pathetic, inacurate fact..lol.. :p
CaptiveOrcas 4 years ago
I ment animals can't survive in factory farms** and lol..what do you know. are you SURE that an animal living in a factory farm lives more than 10 years? lol pftt! Most animals that live in factory farms that soon go to the slaughter house DIE before they even make it out of the factory farm, living in the care of these farms less than 1 year! And even you know that..and we are talking about orca captivity..NOT the meat industry..just letting you know.. :P
CaptiveOrcas 4 years ago
peepchick101.
KillerDolphins43 3 years ago
Lolita's tank is small, but that doesn't mean shes unhappy or depressed, because if she was, she'd be dead. She recieves excellent vet care, love from her trainers, fish and her vitamens. She obviously is healthy, and in order to live to such a old age, she must be happy. Most animals with complex brains like humans and birds can die from depresstion. And i dont see LOLITA DYING.
KillerDolphins43 3 years ago
Lolita isn't dying. She's not sick and I've said that many times.. she's quite healthy and she has all her teeth (almost). She is may be languishing and suffering, but she's not dying, physically. Mentally, she may be hurt though. You get what I mean about the animal abuse though.. even abused creatures survive - dogs in puppy mills, circus elephants, etc. It doesn't mean they are happy & lovin' life - but they are ALIVE; breathing, moving.. like Lolita! She doesn't have to be happy to be alive.
peepchick101 3 years ago
Puppy mill dogs don't live long at all. Comparing animal abuse to animal abuse is like I said inacurate. Lolita may not be happy according to you, but she is happy. Hugo wasn't happy and died young. Lolita is happy because if she wasn't she would be dead.
KillerDolphins43 3 years ago
Comparing animal abuse to something thats not animal abuse is like I said inacurate***
KillerDolphins43 3 years ago
How can you say that she's "happy" in that stupid tank. A fuckin gold fish has a bigger tank then that. I find that comment extremely disgusting, and it obviously shows you have no respect or consideration for a whale's needs. A whale NEEDS SPACE.
Just looking at that tiny space sickens me. And don't give me bull crap how she may want to stay, she's super duper happy.
yep, fuckin-A she's happy. She sure looks it don't she!

jesus christ, learn some friggin facts.
FreedomForOrcas 3 years ago
It worries me to think that some people believe this is a perfectly fine situation for a killer whale.
Orcas are so majestic and active in the wild. In captivity, as this video, and many many others clearly show, they [the whales] mope around and float listlessly between shows and at night.. what kind of a life is that? A very sad one..
peepchick101 4 years ago 2
38 years in that tank ! ! ! think about it
Takxukuak 4 years ago 2
If Lolita has been in captivity for that long, she has to been well cared for. You can view mine and Carly's(CaptiveOrcas) videos regarding Lolita and other captive marine mammals and you could have a change in heart. As accourding to Orkidforever's and CaptiveOrcas's videos on Lolita, she is a litle far from "abused".
animaltrainer91 4 years ago 2
Lolita is not abused; she is neglected.
There is a big difference; please understand that. Lolita's tank is illegal to marine park standards in the USA but she is not being physically abused - example: the trainers don't hit her or starve her... they are probably kind to her but that doesn't make her "tank situation" any better =[
peepchick101 4 years ago 2
Thank you for speaking out for Lolita.
It's just so sad to see her cooped up in there - hopefully she is brought back to the wild soon!
peepchick101 4 years ago
Aww, Lolita is so beautiful & happy!!

CaptiveOrcas 4 years ago
Your truthful comment?? Where was any fact in that? You had nothing substantial in that! It was just 7 words; with no evidence to back it up! And you can't use things like "Lolita's trainers feed her and care for her" because obviously they do or she would've died long ago. Animals can survive in bad situations as long as they get their basic necessities in there.
