Just love this song, watched your shared video many times here, thanks for sharing! I saw Shooting Star about 20 years ago at Memorial Hall in Kansas City KS Christmas season concert, they rocked us and I had a great time. They even did a couple of Christmas songs that night.
@TheScorps3 Tis album oriented rock. It was another word for progressive rock and dominated FM radio in the midwest of America in the seventies and eighties.
Can anyone else some other good AOR bands to me. I know that the midwest produced many great AOR bands in the seventies and eighties but I need more AOR in my musical diet. Please recommend whatever songs you all can to me please. Thanks.
@ufofan1980 idk bout midwest or aor but check out some tesla they will rock ur world and kenny wayne sheppard band and stevie ray dang u wont be hungry no more hahahaaaa Happy New Year ! Im a ufofan 2 hahaha LOVE peace n music
there are simalarity's between kansas and shooting star kansas are from st joe,mo and topeka, ks/ and the guy's from shooting star are from kansas city, gary west's son wesley west went to my high school and was a year behind myself, i grew up hearing shooting star and they are an awsome band.
The only notable similarity to Kansas is that both bands had a violinist. Structurally, their music is very different. And lyrically, there aren't many similarities at all.
SS never agreed with the Kansas comparisons either. I know it bugged them because they said so (tactfully) on Rockline back in the day.
Personally, I like both bands equally. Apples & oranges.
(Note that my comments refer to the Gary West years of Shooting Start [the first 5 albums]). After that, I dunno.
THE most underated band of all-time. Excellent studio/albums and just killer live! I saw them for the first time at K-SHE/KWK Superjam at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. They were the opening act. And, after being followed by Judas Priest, April Wine, Sammy Hagar, and Journey, --- Shooting Star was ALL I could talk about.
Only saw them from this video when our area was first getting cable in 1979-80. My brother and I would stay up till 11:30 to see this half-hour show called "video jukebox." Killer tune! Went out and got the album. Just proves you can add strings and still rock.
I saw these guys in the 80s at the Indiana State Fair with Utopia Todd Rundgren. I heard that all their equipment was stolen after the show. Hope it wasnt true. I have always loved Shooting Star. The album cover from Haang on for tour life was great. Still have it.
man at 134 West makes it look kool 2 be behind a baby grand ,he just makes a piano look like it belongs in rock n roll,
reminds me of a friend here in cincy ,Tom Lukie, dudes got a baby grand in his livinroom,he looks just as kool on it too, dont know why ,guess pianos are kool after all !!
Remember seeing this video for the first time on the USA Network's Video Concert Hall....months before MTV existed. Nothing like kicking back with a few cold ones in a buddies basement watching this video.
This song is sooo awesome. I almost forgot about it but was looking through their discography and saw it, and had to check youtube. Yes I am a huge fan, and this IS one of my favorites. Thanks for posting it!
One of THE very BEST early 80's straight Rock & Roll bands. I am still kicking myself over 20 years later for not going to see them in K.C. with my cousin when I had the chance. I wore out the vinyl and cassette I had though... THANK YOU FOR POSTING! ! !
OK, it sounds biased as I am from Kansas City, but as a fan of FM Radio in the late 70's, I thought these guys were as good as their AOR competition and certainly were a solid live band. I like a lot of their recorded work, but this first album didn't have a bad track on it and it made my friends and I proud that one of the bands we cranked up while partying were from KC. Definitely an underrated band in their time.
I raised my kids who are now 15 and 17 years on 80's rock. Now they tell their friends about their favorites who are in turn eating it up.There is Guitar Hero exposing kids to good music too so maybe there is hope after all.
WOW....this so reminds me of my youth! Love this song so much! Those great old days....sniff, sniff....sorry, this brings tears to my eyes....I know I shouldn't live in the past, but wow, these days, life is alot harder...
It is a basic video by TODAYS standards, but I loved to see that they PLAY the music and some of those sounds I have wondered about are NOT synthesizer. Great Band.
What an amazing song and band. One of Van's best guitar riffs, Steve is the master on the drums and even Chaz can't say he didn't enjoy playing this back in the day. Long live the King! We miss you Bill.
The little band that could!!
