@jeremymaronpot - yes. it was either dental plaster (quite hard), or a specialist casting plaster(available to buy in different degrees of hardness). I can't recall.
sorry, I didn't spot the y in your sentance first time round. Vaseline is greasy, and it forms a layer that stops any water-based glue sticking to the mould. If you don't grease the mould the paper mache will almost always stick in the mould, and tear or rip when you try to remove it
is the mold made of plaster?

@victoriadiary it helps to remove the papier mache head to get out of the mould eaiser.
