So, all death sentences were commuted to life (California did not have lwop on the books at the time). Conspiracy to commit capital murder is just as bad as doing the killing yourself. Manson set these murderers in motion. Without him, they would not have happened. It makes him just or more culpable than those who did the actual killing.

@csw152 actually the usa had stopped capital murder sentences in 1967 for all cases except military crimes such as espionage. but you're right, it wasn't until 1972 that they officially stopped it.

all 5 methods of execution (hanging, gas, injection, electricution, firing squad) are still legal in the states. Not all of them are used in every state, however each is sanctioned, and still being carried out to this day (firing squad is currently only used by 1 state, and electric chair by 2 states). You are correct that lethal injection is the most widely used (and humane) method, however all 5 are still surrently utilized in the USA.

@5kcehc5 At least in the UK I know if I'm in court i get a fair trial based on fact, not the colour of my skin or the money I can spend on a lawyer, and that the barrister can do his job unlike some 'attorneys' in america. Even if we're a bit lenient at least the right people end up in prison usually, and appeals are judged impartially rather than knowing the judge's reelection is coming up and a death sentence upheld on a mob bloodlust.

Charles Dean Hood, the death row inmate whose case has drawn national attention because of a relationship between the presiding judge and prosecutor at his trial, has been granted a new punishment hearing by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.
The new hearing was not ordered because of the acknowledged relationship, but because the court ruled that the jury was not given proper instructions on how to consider Hood's background when determining his punishment.

@csw152 actually the usa had stopped capital murder sentences in 1967 for all cases except military crimes such as espionage. but you're right, it wasn't until 1972 that they officially stopped it.

all 5 methods of execution (hanging, gas, injection, electricution, firing squad) are still legal in the states. Not all of them are used in every state, however each is sanctioned, and still being carried out to this day (firing squad is currently only used by 1 state, and electric chair by 2 states). You are correct that lethal injection is the most widely used (and humane) method, however all 5 are still surrently utilized in the USA.

I do research foxi479 BUT I only research certain states but thank you for pointing this out. Delaware was one of the final states to have hangings as an option of execution but now the only option is lethal injection. Your more than welcome to correct me again. But I was clearly commenting on Huntsville, as I live in the UK I am still very unaware of the system although I work along the lines of Amnesty, reprieve, human rights etc. I would appreciate any constructive input you have.
