Great work Tim. I had the pleasure to work on this plane before it went to Reno and won. Congrats from all of us at Peter O Knight maintenance. If you need a hand holler.
@gunnersdoubleott Invictus is a beauty. I know some about what they can and cannot do to the engines. I am a crew member for this particular aircraft. Its a BONE STOCK Continental 0-200 engine. Same type youd find in a Cessna 150. The only things you can do to it legally is port and polish. Tuned head pipes, and thats really about it. They do a tech inspection before you race and after if you win.
@BlueWaterBoat Thanks for the info. so there is no electronic ignition? I was curious as to how they turn those engines so fast. What do they run at 4000-4300 rpm?
@gunnersdoubleott To the best of my knowledge nobody runs electronic ignition. I know we dont. Yep they really ring out those little engines. Anywhere from 3800 to about 4350 ish. Just depends on the driver, and how the aircraft is set up.
An example of the pleasure in air racing.
