  • i just love this guy

  • may i know who wrote this song??? thanks!!!!!

  • @raysonkong

    Joshua Redman

  • Oh

  • whose is this song? im going crazy!!!

  • Jeeeeezzz not only is Govan amazing but his band.. Fuck.

  • guthires solo is similar with the bumblefoot solo from "i can play the blues" the sound is similar too

  • ok thats it! I Quit! I think I will go buy a kazoo ... or maybe just hummmmm.

  • if his fretboard was the monopoly game board he would own every piece of property on it

  • Would Kirk Hammett cry if he saw this? YES.

  • If 'white lightning' made guitarists.......

  • Check out Guthrie Govan's new band: The Aristocrats

  • incredible as anyone.

  • 1:09 "What the fuck, man?"

  • @HummingAmadeus At 1:09 he was using a whammy pedal. He doesn't use it very often, just for variety, something different.

  • 0:37 Yes please

  • guthrie govan kills all he metal guitarists

  • Can someone tell me who wrote this song?

  • haha i have that same t shirt that he has

  • i love how it sounds when the sax and guitar play the exact same thing.

  • 0:20 mistake, he is human like others :)

  • @NikaKuprashvili Im looking for a mistake and I cant find one, he is a god

  • people give this guy way too much credit! Rusty cooley would blow this dick off the stage and into another dimention!

  • @jonrg77 *sigh* all rusty cooley does is play a million notes a second,no phrasing at all

  • @jonrg77 You don't like music, that's cool. Just find a different video to comment on.

  • @jonrg77 Rusty is certainly fast, but that doesn't make good ol' Guthrie a dick. What Rusty does can be achieved with a shitload of practicing. Guthrie's stuff is his and his only.

  • @jonrg77 wait till the key modulates then Rusty would blow himself of the stage when he realizes he's playing the wrong notes. I doubt he has a tenth the musical knowledge govan has

  • @SirJamestheIII Agreed. I used to kinda like Rusty a number of years ago out of awe of his technicality, but he seems so one dimensional. Guthrie has so much versatility and is fantastic playing a variety of styles, plays some incredibly difficult but very interesting licks and shows great musicality. He will play around and do silly stuff too but he can do so much while Rusty is stuck in the metal sphere, as great as he is doing that sorta stuff.

  • @SirJamestheIII rusty knows more in his sleep than this over rated fake shredder!

  • @jonrg77 lolololol. Guthrie isn't a shredder, he just can shred. How many genres does Rusty know again?

  • @jonrg77 You're either trolling or just stupid -_-

  • @jonrg77 Put Rusty to play this song, see how poorly he does.

  • Damn Govan! I am a fan of yours I swear!!!

NOT- YOU UGLY FUCKING MONGOOSE!!!! ha ha ha ha :-)

  • @GuyFawkesGuitar asshole,go some where else and be a asswipe you stupid goof

  • cant wait to meet him for a workshop on sunday!

  • @MuSeMaN1000 You're meeting him!?

  • @xxguitardude93xx

he'd do better meeting that Halcomb guy :-)

  • @touwist yur spot on there squire- when he slows down he's best

  • it is wonderful to listen a "game and joy playin`" over lot of ideas, without trying to say something very deep, it is not so important everytime

  • At 1:15 the saxophonist think simply "WTF".

  • little too much there dude, kind of uh..... annoying sounding

  • Awesome :))

  • I had sax to this music until I jazzed all over the place.

  • @JD0x0 Too corny! Thumbs down...

  • @youztuber5000 Youre just mad I didnt funk you and give you my jazz

  • @JD0x0 lololol

  • @JD0x0 did you cum all over de cam?

  • @JD0x0 What a delight full and creative comment;p

  • @JD0x0 That right there is hands down the best "jazz" reference I've heard yet. YES

  • @JD0x0 Awesome! lol

  • EVH got nothin' on guthrie

  • great technique. terrible music. sounds like shit.

  • @MrSimon310189

That depends on who's listening. Your opinion is not a fact, so don't state it like one.

  • @MrSimon310189 Bullshit and that's dumb thing to say. Like a fat person saying excercise is shit.

  • @MrSimon310189 its just fusion

  • Thats strange.. When I used to play hide n seekI used to hide my eyes n count to ten while my brother used to fuck off somewhere then i had to find him.. now you have to play like this god

  • Saying that Guthrie Govan doesn't have his own voice is like saying that Guthrie Govan doesn't have his own voice. Oh wait....

  • Hey guys I think he made a mistake and missed a note slightly at 0:20 can you believe that :)

  • 0:45 How did he do that?

  • @TheHornet79 he watched EVH

  • @TheHornet79 he watched EVH and used an octave pedal of some kind

  • i love 0:38 :)

  • O fcourse, cut off the at the tenor solo....

  • Oh my goodness look what Demiola started!!!!

  • btw I'm a guitarist as well. i second that question, anyone here not a guitar player? and happen to enjoy this kind of stuff..?

  • @cgDominic I haven't touched a guitar in my life, but I love guys like Guthrie, Lane, Howe, Lagrene, ect... I play drums, but im a big lover of music in general.

  • @Kingding6 you have good taste in guitarists. which means your drumming probably has some nice meloidies in them. all the bad ass guitarists always seem have a good drummer. look at jimi hendrix mitch. jeff beck cozy, carmine, simon, vinnie.list goes on the beat drives you forward. fusion, funky, metal.etc.

i love guitar ,but drumming is as good. a good drummer makes everyone a little better.

  • @gmasterg13

don't forget Sean Rickman, Shawn Lane's drummer for powers of ten. that guy was beast.

  • @tastytasters yes shawn rickman. i liked him with shawn, billy cobham with john. bonham with page.

elvin jones with miles. simon philips with gary moore. baker with clapton. charlie watts with keith.

the list goes on. and don't forget morgan agren seriously bad ass.

  • Is anyone here not a guitar player?

  • @TheFigueroa007

I doubt there is anyone here that is not musician. im quite sure mostly guitar players, should be a few tht are bassist or drummer or play some kind of other instruments and i suspect they are introduced to guthrie's stuff by their guitarist friend or guitarist band member who gives them some of these internet links lol.

oh how i wish more of non musicians listen to guthrie's music, this man dedication and talent deserve more recognition.

  • @TheFigueroa007 Well, most of us WERE before visiting this video...

  • @TheFigueroa007 Yes......Bass

  • if a shredder where to play jazz fusion ........ hmmmm Guthrie Govan!

  • @bambizal thats ridiculous! He was even looking at the guy clapping for him.

  • ENTRE OS MELHORES NA ATUALIDADE PRA MIM ! FANTASTICO MUSICO !SUPER VERSATIL ! TOCA QUALQUER ESTILO

QUE DEUS ABENÇOE MAIS E MAIS ESTE CARA ! SOU FÃ DELE EM

  • What can I say? Oh my God He's F*ckin' AWESOME!!!

  • Name another guitarist who can play "thank you" (2:02) in time and in tune while still playing the set. Incredible!

  • here's a good example GUTHRIE GOVAN - ORANGE JAM - ROTOSOUND PROMO but i want to hear more of this from him.

  • just shit my pants

  • Here's a man whose musical mind is 100% in accordance with his manual dexterity. No limitations. Ha, the freedom this man must feel. Incredible.

  • does he ever like.. chill?

  • @snowgoose92 i kinda agree... like i love his crazy fast shit but i kinda want to hear him play some really feely, like maybe medium speed stuff. cuz we all know he can shred the fuck out of the guitar, and we know he has great feel, but i want to hear more of his FEEL side.

  • @snowgoose92 don't be silly :D

  • Astounding in every way

  • ahhhhhhhhhhh

  • Brilliant!

  • if this is improv...how the fuck can someone come up with stuff like this from improv like, what the hell at 1:09... Just ridiculously not of this earth playing improv or not.

  • @TheWhocares233

tapping is so easy to speed up on guitar

  • Does anybody know who wrote this song or "Headin' Home"? I've seen videos of Joshua Redman playing them, but i don't know for sure if Redman is the composer. Thank you.

  • @sarevok They're both Joshua Redman tunes... this one's from his album, "Freedom in the Groove"

  • can you get any of these tunes on a cd? was there one released with this band?

  • WHY THE FUCK IS THERE 3 DISLIKES?!?!

  • 0:45 the most epic sounds i have ever heard

  • My only Jesus, I love you!!!

  • Man, esse maluco e o Melhor do Mundo man, que Guitarrista filha da mãe!!

Adorei queria aprender a fazer essas escalas doidas fora do tom sei láa!! sokaoska´p

  • guthries like a sax player bursting out of a guitar amazing

  • en el minuto 2:01 guthrie mira a los que lo aplauden y dice "Thank's you!"

  • @CinemaVeriteSNM jajajaj toda la razon, buena observacion.

  • How does he play that so smooth with so little gain and sustain

  • damn... Guthrie has definitely Put the Guitar playing into a new level.. For me he's by far the Best Guitarist today in all TERMS!

  • damn this solo is just too incredible!...and right into the unison with the saxophone...too epic!

  • his tone is so scott henderson...i fucking love it!!!!

  • that kinda sux. he's too good a player for all that tapping shredder stuff (read "crap")

  • @flowerdrop1 i agree. he has such a vocabulary. but tend to overplay solos with shredding. i enjoy it but it's kinda ruins the effect of his solobuilding.

i'm not trying to get angry with me. i can see why though.

  • @flowerdrop1 but his tapping is so guthrie style. just of the wall fusion style. not just your average "shredding crap"

  • guthrie is arguably the most versatile guitar player right now ...

  • Fantastic stuff!

  • is it a cover song????!?!?! where is it from originally? thanks!

  • I´ve been listening guitar players for many years, there are for me some favourites, like Albert Lee, Vinnie Moore, Satch, Vai, Timmons, Petrucci, SRV, Stanley Jordan, Andre Olbrich, Eric Johnson, M Batio, Michael Hedges... the list goes on and on.

But, really, I´m scared with this man. This guy has much talent. Great video.

  • cool version :D

  • When i grow up i want to be a steam shovel

  • I know what I want to be when I grow up...

  • @TFBCountryBoy older?

  • @TFBCountryBoy

    a clown? LOL

  • @TFBCountryBoy a sax addict :D

  • haha at 2:01 he said "thank you" to the audience.. that was sick =)

  • @bertobgood2 just caught that ... he's amazing

  • Goddammit this guy.. Freakin awesome!

  • Great jazz !

  • the quick high bends are where he has his tapping finger on the high note and is bending behind the string with the regular fretting hand. He shows this technique in his tapping video.

  • totally ridiculous guthrie !!!! damn kinda out tune yet on track kinda tune lol nice vids !!!!

  • jajaj que tal hdp!!!

  • His awesomess is just ridicolous.

  • 0:38 to 0:54, what the fuck was that?!

  • wammy pedal i think. i know he has one so that must be it

  • lol dude...there is no whammy pedal in this video at all...

i was just exclaiming at his insane riff.

  • nah yo listen to it carefully and watch his hands. watch a bit of the video afterwards too. There are quick and extremly high bends, however his fingers aren't bending. And i've seen pictures of his pedal board on the internet and he does have a whammy pedal

  • if you're talking about 0:44 to around 0:48, that's him like bending and then tapping higher up the neck.

  • yeah i know, but it just seems to me like when he taps, his tap bends and sounds scooped. idk man, he may not be using a whammy pedal that was just the first conclusion i came to without any deep investigation

  • there is, there's a pitch change to one octave up after he does the taps, pretty sure it's whammy pedal. note that it's not wah, it's whammy. maybe you mistaken it with wah. guthrie owns a whammy pedal since he likes tom morello kinda thing. and he uses it in various gigs

  • Yep. He used a whammy MANY times during this gig.

  • Wah pedals adjust the frequency center, Q, and Whammy pedals literally change the pitch. I know you know that but not everyone might.

  • probably the same effect pedal the creator of Metalocalypse uses in the intro of that show. Search for the video where he teaches you to play the intro.

  • Guthries brother on bass?

  • @tisenderbluesman yup Seth

  • i wish they wouldof included the sax solo, cause hes rippin, guthrie you the man, the main man

  • What about the crazy contrary motion right before it. ~.40

  • WTF? 0:38-0:54! I´ve had never been so excited about a guitar phrase since I heard "Beat it" solo and NOW!

Yes, Azoicum, I hope that his parents are seeing him from their spaceship!

  • jejeje the diferences is that guthrie can play anthing from any one else , but not many people or guitarplayer can play what guthrie plays .

  • Would his extraterrestrial parents recognize him on TV?

  • GG deserves his own country with a big chair in a room full of jam doughnuts and theakstones old peculier on draught

  • Love the way Zak bops when he plays/hears others let loose in the band.

  • "has he got his own voice?"

yes without a doubt. I notice his trademark includes: very long fusion lines, outside phrases, his distinct sudden short bends and aggressive vibrato. also that slide to big bend at 0:17, chromatic 'shred-ish' lines, that dissonant harmony sounding notes (im not exactly sure what it's called) at 1:34 - 1:36 which he does quite often and that adds more texture to his already very textural playing.

  • @gori1503 the harmony sounding note is actually a screaming bend which consist of a lower note which is unbent and an higher note which is bent slowly creating the dissonant sound

  • @gori1503 dude thats good to know. now we can incorporate that stuff into our playing and sound more like guthrie which is always a good thing.

  • @gori1503 Well you have the guitar teminology down

  • @gori1503 don't forget that rhythmically he is way more interesting than any of the other "shredders"

  • @gori1503 The part at 1:34 is just a Major 7th Interval.

  • @gori1503 He often do the bend, insted of landing on a root note or other stong note at the end of a long awsome lick its awersomzzrrarragagaa!!

  • Whats a 'radio'? We all know talent doesn't live there....

  • lol thats great ill have to remember that one man. lol

  • I still enjoy jazz on the radio. XD

  • @ShredAstaire haha, thats a sweet statement ^^ not entirely tru, but too much crap in general. the record companies are fking everything up, not so much the musicians. FIGHT THE POWERS THAT BE :)

  • @ShredAstaire nice one :)

  • @toomanygittars He completely does have his own voice, i always can tell guthrie apart from other guitarists.

  • @Guitareben You may be right. I should listen to him some more.

He is really really good (obviously). Sounds very much like Paul Gilbert, in a sense...

  • @toomanygittars Ahahaha to me he doesn't sound like paul at all! :D But i suppose it's all opinion and stuff ^^ .

:D You should listen to him more :D

  • Guthrie Govan is not cocky, I've met him and he is one of the most humble people you will ever meet!

  • i've been playing the guitar for nearly 20 years now, been there, bought all the t-shirts, had all the discussions and arguments..and the conclusion is....who cares?..who cares who's better than who, except when u go and see someone live, and the test of their virtuosity then is if they can reproduce or better what you've heard on the cd..as long as you appreciate a musician singer or any artist for whatever reason..it really doesn't matter, just appreciate the music for what it is.

  • My sentiments exactly. I have been playing for 18 years and know what you mean. I used to think that one artist was better than another. Guthrie is one of my favorites because the way he phrases just speaks to me. However I also like the Edge from U2. Big difference. However both are great in their own right.

  • lord have mercy

  • im not going to say anything about jason becker because i dont know how good he would have gotten had he not gotten sick(God bless him) but comon man, i love gilbert, freidman and all those guys but anyone with a musical backround can see that guthrie really has them all beat, i mean granted he may be cocky but he really is beyond good

  • not even funny, all those guys combined with the exception of firkins couldnt play as authentic as guthers does in every style he trys. and he never invented anything he just perfected the hell out of it. Becker was mainly a metal player who was a good sweep picker, but not nearly as good as frank gambale(GBenson calls him mr.sweep), and i love jason becker, but your just mad because you and everyone you know cant touch GG. and all the shrapnel boys praise guthrie

  • jason becker wrote loads of shit. there is more than perpatual burn and his cacophony stuff. we wrote blues, jazz, world music and all sorts of experimental shit. many players can sweep tighter than becker, in fact i rarely judge a player by his chops, but he was one of the first ones to take it to a higher step on guitar and acctually write great music with it. gambale, sweeps scalar patterns. bear in mind jason beckers legato and alternate and finger picking were top notch too.

  • and for johnny hilands sake, listen to GG's rhode island shred, 2nd craziest chiken picken fest ive heard, and if you like that awesome country style check out brent mason, one of hilands idols.

  • that makes absolutely no sense, and like you said music is not about compitition

  • 'they praise him because they know they're better than him'

logic please, how does that make any fuckin sense? check if ur brain functions properly.

  • why dont have all the song and just guthries solos?????? the sax player is very good :)

  • Dont down him?! omfg!

    so true!
