are they any louder than any other conure? ive has blue front green cheeck jenday and senegal conures before and they would scream b ut nothing like a big bird can. and if they have toys they dont scream as much.
I have a male Jenday Conure he is like almost around a year old I.really dont have a problem with him. But I dont know how he can get a bath or a shower? I have tried using a Spray Bottle (bought it at a store) and putting water in it (like I read on lots of websites and magazines) but he for some reason does not like it. Idk where I can get a bowl or how warm the water should be or how deep the bowl should be. My Jenday is as big as your Sun Conure. Please help?
@StoriesChannel You can start off with a shallow bowl, something like a platter plate and let him run around in that. If he seems to like it, then you can graduate to a bowl that you don't fill very high, with lukewarm water. Never fill the bowl higher than an inch or two, so when the bird is standing, only their feet and a little bit of chest is covered. Otherwise, they won't even bother stepping in. See how Heli tests the depth with his foot before he gets in? They don't like deep water :)
the main thing to remember when birds take a bath is that birds dont like to swim, if its too deep they wont go in. for the longest time all i had was a dinky water bowl and she would throw herself in the bowl . now i have a full size bath but i never fill it high enough to reach her breast.
about 2 weeks ago i baught 3 parakeets and i have a big cage with plenty of toys, and i clean it and change the food and water on a daily basis and i wissle to them but whenever i try toput my finger for them to get on they just walk away, what can i do,
@themasterray13 Ooh, this is tough. Your birds weren't hand-raised, were they? You're going to have to "train" them, in essence, to be familiar with your hands. Birds in general don't like hands, because people tend to just grab them, which is scary. I would do some internet research on how to teach your birds to "step-up" and how to train them to be comfortable with your hands. If you can't find it on the internet, go to a bird store where they hand-raise birds and ask for some tips!
@alllaughs25, definetly a parakeet. Make sure they are "hand-raised," not from a petco or petsmart, but a bird store that raises them and feeds them by hand. This way, they already are familiar with hands and wont be afraid of you. A little more expensive, but DEFINETLY worth it. My parakeets cost around $60/each. If you can figure out what sex they are, try and get a boy. Sometimes they talk and they tend to be much friendlier. Hope this helps!
@ststephen909, It takes a LOT of work. It seems the larger the bird is, the more you have to work with them before they will allow you to hold them . I've never had issues with Heli, but we got him when he was young and he was raised by hand. He's very territorial to strangers, but adores anyone "inside his flock" (my siblings and dad)! If you're thinking of getting a bird for the first time, I suggest a hand-raised parakeet (a "budgie") and only one. See my comment to alllaughs25 above.
i wanna get a conure now! X3 sooooo adorable.. but i have to many birdies/parrots.... i used to have 6birds but now im down to 4 cause my grandma gave my parakeets to some stranger! ....
Ive heard talking that parrots require a lot of space and attention (if held alone) - how do you cope up with that? Just asking because im curioss. Id never dare to get myself a pet because im afraid i might mistreat it accidentally.
@TheAudiopulse We have a very large cage for him with lots of colorful toys and I have a large family. I have 5 brothers and sisters, so there is definitely enough attention to go around!
parrpts are awsome your bird is the kind i some day want to get the proble is they live long so you get really atached to them and when they die it's tragic but it's good because sertin ones if you get at a time can out live you and they do live long in that good way so i like parrots there very smart to.
Just to echo the comments from bradshka on this video - please don't buy a parrot unless you know you can cope with the noise they create and the attention they require. Parrots can be very demanding and will get bored if left in a cage all day, often causing them to start plucking out their feathers. Think twice - or three times before buying a parrot. And if you're not up to the job, please don't become abusive with your pet, just let someone else take care of him/her instead.
i can not for the life of me get my sun to take a bath, if he does it in his water dish while i am away i do not know, but i keep trying to get him to take a bath and he just runs from it...any suggestions?
@kygal41501 Maybe you could try spritzing him. This can be tricky too, because sometimes they're scared of it. Just try it one with a spritz bottle, lukewarm water, and see how he reacts. If he runs away after half a minute or so, I'd say stop. If he fluffs up and spreads his wings or simply appears excited, go for it! It's more like what they'd encounter in the wild anyway!
my birds were like that too, my mum used to place a plastic container inside their cage once in a while so that they could play with the water (or to have a bath!)
If it's a day without a tub of water, they would try and force themselves into that tiny pot of their drinking water!
@honda125 You mean on his chest or directly below his beak where it seems impossible for him to reach? If it's his chest, that's a nervous or bored habit and he probably needs more attention and out-of-cage time. If it's a place where he can't reach and he doesn't have a cage-mate, then I'd say take him to an avian-vet because that could be something serious! Hope this helps!
Aww Heli is so cute! I think saw a sun conure today at Petsmart and he was like a thousand dollars!! He let me pet his head and everything but then he kept on trying to bite my fingers. :P
I love how she just walks on you table when she is done. We own a Sun Conure and a Jenday and they are adorable. The Sun is they queen of the house and the jenday loves to cuddle(:
This is EXACTLY how my Jenday conure starts out her baths. First, the beak test, then the one foot test, then *tink tink tink tink* around to the other side of the bowl. If all goes well it's time to get in!
May I mention just how strong these birds' beaks are? My sun conure Tequila managed to chew the entire top layer of wood off of my mom's old desk. And when he bites, he BITES. Very tempermental, but very sweet all the same. :-)
@AFGTerroist101 We do have a bigger bowl, this was our first bath outside of his water dish, so we started small and shallow. We have a much bigger bowl now, almost the size of a platter. Thanks for your comment :)
@blubberman911 although the loud part may be true, if you actually raise your sun conure and give it lots of love and attention, it wont bite you. i have had my sun conure, cleo, for around 12 years and she has NEVER bitten me.
they are the loudest and have the strongest bite relative to their size, most bites are just a nibble and a warning, but he will take a chunk out of a strangers ear or nose
My granny had one and he only liked my granny but when my granny was gone I had to take care of him so he ended up warming up to me but he still hated and would bit my unlces but he also had a bad past of his owners dieing on him and leaving him so to say he died with loving people around him im happy
i used to have a sun conure called forrest. he was such a character and he loved to snuggle and as soon as i cleaned his cage once a week he would bath in his water bowl and make a huge mess
@ Eren119 I had a bird which didn't have his wing trimmed, guess what? He flew away. Now he is most likely dead, whereas he was very happy living with me, if only id had his wings clipped. So the next bird i get will definitely be getting his wings trimmed, and even if they don't fly away it is dangerous, they could fly into a window and break their neck.
Mine loves to use her own drinking water. Everytime I try and spray her or take her to a bowl of water myself she flips out. Shes only good and ready when she wants. ;)
you should give her a bigger dish to bathe in. i used to let my lovebird go in the kitchen sink or bathroom sink so she had more room to get herself properly cleaned like she wanted. otherwise it is frustrating because you dont get everything wet or clean! think like the bird! all due respect, of course. cute bird may God bless it!
precious! we take our cockatiels into the bathroom and let them perch on the shower rail while we splash them with water. they love to spread their wings to catch the water.
thanks also for the warning to the general public to consider very carefully before getting these birds. all birds need A LOT of care and attention, and the means time, work and money. DON'T GET ONE IF YOU CAN'T GIVE THEM WHAT THEY NEED.
It looks like Heli likes splashing around in the water. Have you ever tried a bowl that has a larger diameter so he can put his tail bottom in the water and splash? I thought his little wet foot prints were precious! :-)
are they any louder than any other conure? ive has blue front green cheeck jenday and senegal conures before and they would scream b ut nothing like a big bird can. and if they have toys they dont scream as much.

you should give her a bigger dish to bathe in. i used to let my lovebird go in the kitchen sink or bathroom sink so she had more room to get herself properly cleaned like she wanted. otherwise it is frustrating because you dont get everything wet or clean! think like the bird! all due respect, of course. cute bird may God bless it!

We have a Sun Conure and he is loud!!! I like him best when he is tired and quiet. He gets fluffy and he sleeps next to my pillow.

@periclesolon: one of the reasons they are doing this is they are testing if the water is too cold/hot..lol smart birds

precious! we take our cockatiels into the bathroom and let them perch on the shower rail while we splash them with water. they love to spread their wings to catch the water.
thanks also for the warning to the general public to consider very carefully before getting these birds. all birds need A LOT of care and attention, and the means time, work and money.

My grandfather had a parrot like this one that liked to bathe in bowls, but only after you added cornflakes and milk.
