i dont understand why the first one is 3 x 4 and not 6 x 2 ?

the second one is 9 x 2 so why not 3 x 6 ?

For the 3rd problem, while written correctly on the whiteboard, the verbal answer given was "3+(sqrt 2 over 2)"
