@SchlagerOskar Well it had more to do with them trying to slow the game down (like they have at Wimbledo nand the US Open) so there can be more longer rallies.
This was right amongst that time where this bad boy attitude was at its 'finest'. It seemed to me that Marat came into this tournament with questionable fitness levels, he'd never previously played well here up until this point so maybe the fact he had matches until his belt going into the later stages took its toll but with those 'safinettes' in the players box and stuff things looked suspicious. All credit to Johansson, he deserved it unlike Marat.
This should be up for tennis trivia, I'd like to see how many people would call this one correctly. Maybe Safin, but Johansson is the biggest One Slam Wonder aside from Gastón Gaudio. These guys will never be remembered.
what are you talking about?..despite Johansson never won any more grandslam's..he was consistent player during his career..former no.7..holder of 9 ATP titles..any more proofs?
This could have really given Safin a boost going forward. He did have a very consistent season that year, but winning that match would have been pretty big for him (so too the French Open that year). He should have won many AUS Opens!
it seems to me that Marat wasn`t on the court that time....maybe night before match with his "family" at audience was very exhausting for him :)))

Now you realize what a green carpet can ruin the image when you do not see the ball. Now i understand why they have a blue carpet instead of a green.

I heard somewhere that Safin drank some toxic liquids the previous day. Now it seems it's more like he was tired after the Haas match.

@McCoist20 I'm not saying the guy was a pro and one of the top tier players of his time.
But he is forgotten.

Is it just me or was Safin's last hit called incorrectly? That looked clearly inside the line to me

@tehPWNINATOR Yep, what's that all about? Looks clearly inside the line to me. Weird.

I know, I thought so too when I first saw it, but I watched it in slow motion and close up the day after the game. It is correctly judged.

johansson was the total underdog in this tournament. i don't think anybody expected him to win this.
