VU and Půlnoc live in Jouy-en-Josas in 1990. Sterling Morrison playing my black 1988 Squier Bullet 1 with my purple guitar strap, bought to me by my mother! The drums belonged to our drummer Petr Kumandžas. Sterling wrote to me "Thanks for the guitar" and I gave Lou my music on a cassette after the gig. I have all the documents from exhibition in my archive, including original photos, that I made for Czech magazine Reflex. Thank you for the video, this is history!
Weird! The Velvets playing out in the daylight, Not the way I remember them. Met Lou & the band in about "68 in Chicago, little club called the Quiet Knight. What fun!
This was in 1990, when they met at an Andy Warhol retrospective in France, where Reed & Cale were to perform Songs For Drella, & Morrison and Tucker happened to be there, as it's clear from this TV news broadcast. You are confusing it with the European Reunion tour 3 years later, in 1993, which they decided to do after this impromptu performance
Thanks for posting this, what an amazing document of a film. They've not played together for almost 20 years & can still sound great. The Velvets, Lou, John, Sterling & Maureen, are to the alternative Rock fan what John, Paul, George & Ringo (The Beatles, of course; just for those who might not know them on a first name basis) are to everyone else. Someone once said (or wrote) that. Great stuff. Thank you so much.
This reunion took place on june 15th,90 ; 30 kms south of Paris part of Cartier's Andy Warhol Exposition at the period after John Cale and Lou Reed did the Songs for Drella album. They played in duet 3 or 4 numbers of the album and then invited Maureen Tucker and Sterling Morrison to perform Heroin. Assistance was about 700 people, mostly Rock and Roll VIP including Ari the son of Nico and Alain Delon
Pulnoc, nevermind.
