Are androids worth buying? Many of my friends rave they are superior to the iPhone(which I want to buy) but I've tried both and I prefer the iPhones software way more then the Android software.... can anyone convince me otherwise?
@guitarman812 It really depends on which android phone you buy. The Samsung Galaxy S Phones (captivate, epic 4g, fascinate, nexus S, etc.) are huge, and true, competitors for the iphone 4, since Samsung manufactures the ARM A8 Cortex 1GHz for both the iPhone 4 and all the phones I just mentioned. Both the iPhone 4 and Galaxy S phones run extremely smooth, and have brilliant screens too. Android 2.2 also makes it a rival to the iPhone 4 since it allows you to move apps to external storage...
Android without HTC Sense seems a pretty piddlizing affair to be honest.
The "Google Experience" is pretty shabby. Its taken over 2 years for them to get only half the fun of YT on the app. Gmail looks terrible & you can only attach pics without an app. Google Maps & Translate are cool, Sky Maps is fun although you'll barely use it. The other email app is pointless.
HTC needs to buy out the Android platform from Google. They clearly know what they're doing and have vision.
Yeah they really do. Instead they release a new device every other week and forget about the people who bought their devices that's why If I was to get an android I would probably get a htc or motorola (I would change the ui though) because they actually update their devices
@masni92 the 2.1 update was called eclair and the new 2.2 update is called froyo. froyo is an abbreviation for FROzen YOgurt. All the updates are named after desserts. The next update is called gingerbread- i think

And btw the 3gs does multitask. It doesn't multitask great but pretty good .

At last!... Today i recieved 2.2 update from t-mobile uk on my Desire and i have to say i have noticed a huge difference in performance along with the extra features that come with it, it has made my phone run much more efficiently. I love it!

@roro2k I love it, the screen is nice and bright, the functionality is excellent. Its a large phone/small pad but its comfortable. The 1.6 android os is a little rough around the edges but the freedom of use over the itunes restricted iphone is immense. When 2.2 comes out it was made for the streak. Ir will blow the IP4 away.

No Siliconsurf, ATT is not the problem. The iPhone 4's antenna shorts out when you touch it. You need to get a plastic bumper to avoid this APPLE problem. Fail for Apple.

I'm not sure what you are talking about. No phone is made from fiberglass. The iPhone's glass is aluminosilicate glass. Also known as safety glass. This is the type of glass that is on the front of your car. A very small pebble from the car in front of you can crack this type of glass.

Looks great, but what I'm little worried about is the fact that this video takes 7 minutes, and you can see the battery indicator move during that (just from the beginning to the ends or vice versa and you'll see the difference). I know playing with it takes so power but 7 minutes and you can see the battery indicator move... please...
@kdofe I have 2 scenes on my phone, Normal for daily use, and Battery for when I know I can't charge it for a long time. 'Battery' consist of a messages shortcut and nothing else, black background to save power on lights and small things like that :>
But still, most phones running android should last at least 24 hours before going out with a lot of apps and normal use. If it doesn't, blame your apps
@kdofe Were you not watching what he was doing on the phone? He turned the WiFi Hotspot on just before the battery went down. The phone figured he had about x hours of battery remaining, and when he turned on the hotspot, which drains tremendous battery, the phone realized he would have < x hours with that turned on. If he turns it off, the battery indicator will return back up to where it was.
@B1GR3DG4M3R I actually agree on this. As much as I love the Android OS, they do need something uh...something "magical" that will make the casual, non-tech-geek say "OMG, I need that." Some sort of powerful, brutal "something" that people can't live without. Then again, it might actually happen when the 1st Official Android 2.2 powered device releases. You say its obsolete but the Nexus One only hit consumers 8 months or so ago in the US and no more than 3 months ago in the UK officially. So far it seems people expect their android devices to only have a 6 month life cycle... so what Im meant to upgrade every 6 months? No chance!
@Sk4zZi0uS I have an iphone and my upgrade cycle is every 2-3 years. the android basically is trying to the cannibalize the smart phone market kinda like what the pc clones did to IBM in the 80's.
@siliconsurf Ah I figured as much :) I still wouldn't say the nexus one is obsolete much like I wouldn't say the iPhone 3gs is obsolete. I actually own both the Nexus and an iPhone 4. Both are absolutely amazing devices based on what they do... The nexus makes a very nice wifi hotspot when on the go. I use the iPhone 4 mostly for video and audio (creation) and the nexus for bridging the wifi gap in poor o2 coverage areas. Only really like 2 android phones, the Nexus and the Galaxy S

@ssnake11 That's up to HTC. HTC said that every phone from 2010, so including the Desire, will get the update this year. But looking back at the Hero update, it might be 2011. You'll just have to wait and see.

I'm not sure what you are talking about. No phone is made from fiberglass. The iPhone's glass is aluminosilicate glass. Also known as safety glass. This is the type of glass that is on the front of your car. A very small pebble from the car in front of you can crack this type of glass.

Looks great, but what I'm little worried about is the fact that this video takes 7 minutes, and you can see the battery indicator move during that (just from the beginning to the ends or vice versa and you'll see the difference). I know playing with it takes so power but 7 minutes and you can see the battery indicator move... please...

@kdofe I have 2 scenes on my phone, Normal for daily use, and Battery for when I know I can't charge it for a long time. 'Battery' consist of a messages shortcut and nothing else, black background to save power on lights and small things like that :>
But still, most phones running android should last at least 24 hours before going out with a lot of apps and normal use. If it doesn't, blame your apps

@kdofe Were you not watching what he was doing on the phone? He turned the WiFi Hotspot on just before the battery went down. The phone figured he had about x hours of battery remaining, and when he turned on the hotspot, which drains tremendous battery, the phone realized he would have < x hours with that turned on. If he turns it off, the battery indicator will return back up to where it was.

@B1GR3DG4M3R I actually agree on this. As much as I love the Android OS, they do need something uh...something "magical" that will make the casual, non-tech-geek say "OMG, I need that." Some sort of powerful, brutal "something" that people can't live without. Then again, it might actually happen when the 1st Official Android 2.2 powered device releases. I wanna see who/what will release. (o_O)

@B1GR3DG4M3R In about 2 months there will be 3 to 5 new smartphones that will be superior to the iPhone4. Installing Froyo on the HTC Incredible is like installing a big turbo & nitrous in Shelbly Mustang. A friend of mine switched from Verizon to AT&T to get the iPhone4. He signed a family plan with his dad. Now he notices that he gets between 0 ~ 2 bars of service at HOME. Not good. Now he wants to switch back. Oh well.

Only thing i hate about google is i dont like buying new phone every year they should copy steve jobs and allow us to get update at least for a 2 yrs cycle. @add119 Get a life. Nexus One is the first to receive google updates and I don't see any difference between that and Apple. Oh, there is one. iOS 4.0 runs like crap on iPhone 3G O.O Wow, apple really loves their customers (Sheeps) until they need to use this underhand method to force customers to switch from 3G to 3GS or 4 due to lousy performance of 3G after getting iOS 4.0. =)

You say its obsolete but the Nexus One only hit consumers 8 months or so ago in the US and no more than 3 months ago in the UK officially. So far it seems people expect their android devices to only have a 6 month life cycle... so what Im meant to upgrade every 6 months? No chance!

@siliconsurf Ah I figured as much :) I still wouldn't say the nexus one is obsolete much like I wouldn't say the iPhone 3gs is obsolete. I actually own both the Nexus and an iPhone 4. Both are absolutely amazing devices based on what they do... The nexus makes a very nice wifi hotspot when on the go. I use the iPhone 4 mostly for video and audio (creation) and the nexus for bridging the wifi gap in poor o2 coverage areas. Only really like 2 android phones, the Nexus and the Galaxy S

@ssnake11 That's up to HTC. HTC said that every phone from 2010, so including the Desire, will get the update this year. But looking back at the Hero update, it might be 2011. You'll just have to wait and see.
