For an example my home town is Jackson, Mississippi and it has a higher crime and murder rate than NYC and LA. Of course those 2 cities have neighborhoods that are worse than any here, but the large population of those cities makes them appear much safer than they are.

She was, as I was told by my 2 cousins who are on the police department, that she took her marching orders from Kwame. Their proof, as soon as he was indicted she resigned. I was never impressed by her as an executive, maybe she was an adequate supervisor, but out of her element as the chief. I have mixed feelings about Detroit. You could walk down most streets during the day without having, but you must go about this properly. Always be aware of your surroundings, and look like you have a reason for being there. If you appear out of place, that's when problems arise. If your wearing heavy cloths, it may appear that you could have a weapon. No one want's to mess with someone packin heat.
I worry more about the traffic and stupid drivers more than anything.

I'm reading some dumb shit on here. You just listed Detroit's large population as if thats an "obvious" reason why the crime rate is high. Um, generally, speaking, having a higher population would make it HARDER for your crime rate to increase, since statistics are taking on a per 100,000 basis.

For an example my home town is Jackson, Mississippi and it has a higher crime and murder rate than NYC and LA. Of course those 2 cities have neighborhoods that are worse than any here, but the large population of those cities makes them appear much safer than they are.
The fact that Detroit's population is so high and it STILL has crime rate that high proves just how BAD it is.

anyone who has ever been to ann arbor and detroit can see that they are night and day, but look at the crime statistics. cities are given points based on the amount of crimes there, such as rapes, robberies, and murders. the more crime the higher the number. the US average is 320. ann arbor's latest data puts it at 193.6. that is a lower crime rate than even an average town. ypsilanti's is much higher with 699.2, but it's not even close to detroit or flint, which are 1064.2 and 1002.2.

You can also find per capita murder rates of states on Bureau of Justice Statisrics which will show that Louisiana has a higher per capita murder rate of any state every single year from 1989 to 2007. 2008 made it 20 years in a row and CQ press didn't state that fact on the recent 2009 most dangerous states where Louisiana was 2nd most dangerous but highest per capita murder rate. What!!!

I often read the FBI cities stats on the justice site, '85 onwards is good but I wouldn't mind seeing stats from the 70's for all cities. They must have them somewhere. I recently found Chicago from the 1970's onwards on their PD site.

Yes I'm talking about American history as far as major cities , and the FBI murder rates can be found on Bureau of Justice Statistics homepage. I'm talking about in 1994 when New Orleans per capita murder rate was 86 per when it was 21st most dangerous and Minneapolis was 17 per and was 22nd most dangerous the same year . Go figure that one out.

Goes to show you how bogus those most dangerous cities lists are is this fact. When New Orleans had a per capita murder rate of 86 per 100,000 which was the highest per capita murder rate of a major city in history, New Orleans was the 21st most dangerous city that year.

The FBI don't give out city murder rates, only metropolitan areas which 'proffesional' criminologists (i.e. not idiots like Peter scharkf or Mark Vanlandingham) go by and New Orleans is below 30 per 100,000.
The artificially high 86 per 100,000 I assume you meant in American history rather than world history? The world record is 381 per 100,000 for Medellin, Colombia and there's many other non-US cities over 100. Gary I believe was 89 per 100,000 at one time.

The policewoman's right. Every criminologist wotrth their sort says Morgan Quitno's rankings are atrocious. They've been thoroughly debvunked and the FBI themselves list murder rates for metropolitan areas - not core cities. That's the REAL way to rank if you're going to do it.

This interview seems a little slanted against the journalist. I'm sure the police chief is obviously taking offense because it makes her look bad...

I am very upset at the labeling they put on Detroit.! they took the data all out of content. what about other hardcore cities! i was born in Detroit, and my heart goes out to the city & it's people who are still living there. We need to pray for Detroit, Michigan & America as well. God Bless those who are still living there.
