if you look closely....at 0:37 ......you can see that the listrosaurus walk in the same pase......the whole group was made out of 1 computerized listrosaurus......
The animation is a lot better than Walking With Dinosaurs. In WWD, they really sucked at animating movement- the animals were so stiff and their movements so fake
Hopefully those Lystrosaurs are firm believers in the God of the Jews so they can enjoy a good afterlife. I don't want to imagine a Lystrosaurus hell just because they potentially were godless heathens that believed in stupid things like Lystrosaurus gods or evolution.
Amazing graphics! We started watching this at school today ( got up to part 2 ) and as soon as I got home, I put the rest on! I love ancient history of animals! :)
The animation in the 'Walking with ...' series is absolutely unparalleled. I've seen other documentaries about similar subjects and the 'critters' look distinctly artificial. This series looks as though a camera crew was actually wandering around taking photographs (and trying not to end up as a quick snack, LOL).
What is the difference between dinosaurs and the lizards at other times? Also are the dinosaurs related to the fanned backed things from previous episodes or are they different from them but we weren't shown their evolutionary root?
@Sadochrist The dimetrodons didn't evolve into dinosaurs. They are in the evolutionary line that leads to early mammal like reptiles, which eventually evolved into small mammals during the Triassic, same with the other species of fin-back that lived alongside dimetrodon. The difference between dinosaurs and previous lizards is that dinosaurs have special hips that distinguish them from other reptiles.
@AzaDee78 They did rush it, since they didn't really do as good of a job on the possible behaviors. An example being Mesothelae chasing down a lizard. Ancient spiders didn't do that as they were ambush predators that used their burrows and trap door systems to catch prey. Even though they have more oxygen, they still had to contend with gravity. There's a few other examples of these sort of mistakes.
@S0XF0X Plus the river crossing part is exactly what occurs with african mammals and crocodiles today. And dimetrodon behavior is based mainly on the Komodo Dragon. =/
@ColdSideOfPillow136 I think for those segments, they were trying to fill niches that might've been around then that are still around today. One thing that bothered me with the Dimetrodons were the hatchlings had tall sails. How could they fit in the eggs with a set, bone sail?
@brainslow Weeel, to be fair, in the end the "croc guy"s prevailed, and the dinosaurs ( exluding birds ) died out.
Wait, no, considering the variety of birds, and how small diversity of crocodile like animals, it was still the "croc guys" who got the short end of the stick. Unless you consider that no bird today could stand toe to toe with a crocodile. :)
Does anyone remember that Dinosaur movie called "Land of the small Dinosaurs" or something like that? It was about a velociraptor washed ashore on an island of miniature dinosaurs.
Does anyone remember that Dinosaur movie called "Land of the small Dinosaurs" or something like that? It was about a velociraptor washed ashore on an island of miniature dinosaurs.
This documentary is wrong. We did not evolve from the lystrosaurus. We actually evolved from the therocephalians. The documentary plainly didn't address that.
this series makes me shed tears sometimes... its just so remarkably made! WALKING WITH... SERIES SHOWS ALL LIFE ON EARTH TO THE PRESENT DAY! i love all of it
@blazereef One therocephalian fossil - with the species name Euchambersia mirabilis - has recesses behind its canine teeth analogous to those of venomous snakes. The possibly of them housing similar venom glands is accepted as a possibility by scientists.
@NeoKiryu Eupakeria is the direct ancestor, no doubt, considering it is able to stand on it's hind leg (blue prints for MOST of the two legged dinosaurs). Saltoposuchus could be ancestors for other dinosaurs, but I don't think it is the "direct" one, get what I'm saying? :P
Why did they segue straight to the Jurassic? It would have made more sense to end with one of the celofises (sp?) from the first episode of Walking with Dinosaurs.
@Shadoom14 Yeah, you're right, coelophysis from Walking with dinosaurs is very equal to the Euparkeria, and who knows? maybe coelophysis (along with herreasaurus and eoraptor) evolved into the other theropods?
@Shadoom14 They probably skipped to the Jurassic for effect, showing the dinosaurs in one of their prime times. Plus, there's nothing like a Euparkeria stopping by a Chasmatosaur and evolve into our beloved badass Big Al, and then tell said Chasmatosaur to go fuck himself! And then there's the music...
One thing i didn't like in these otherwise cool videos is the sound. The sound technician felt the need to make these creatures grunt in some way or another at all times, which is kinda dumb.
They hve a high dose of entertainment, but they're cool anyway.
The first crocodile looks ridiculous!
