both riders/horses jumped wonderfully, these jumps arent as easy as they look! the ring is pretty big and the obstacles are far apart, so they do need a bit of speed, but not for the jumps themselves but b/c of the time, i expect.
oh this is very very hard i training horse riding and i know how hard is jumping over barrier. I will go on contest i dont know wen, but i know that i will be scared.
i agree with milkchocolateangel u r so write! i can clear a 3 or 4foot at trot so you don't need speed but you need to be at least trotting!! balance balance balance lol
i agree with Cabogurl07 and almostmegan. a horse doesn't speed just scope and impulsion. people just get everything confused because they don't know what they are talking about. ( im not talking about anyone in particular.) =)
These jumps are huge,i went to the World Cup qualifier at Sale in victoria and went round the course (when the audience could) and they were about 20cms taller then me and im 164cms tall!!! So i understand why they're jumping the way they are...the spreads are very wide aswell,i couldnt touch them at full arm span when standing between them
What the horse needs is impulsion. As long as they can get the power from behind, they don't need the speed. It just so happens that some people think that speed equals scope and power.
oh yes, admonish that terrible WORLD-CLASS rider. And wait... are you suggesting that jumping gigantic fences on a 1200-lb. flight animal is dangerous? lol
well on take off you are supposed to keep your calf firm and forward and keep your seat over the saddle and have your chest flat and on the horses kneck. but hes a guy rider so what do yo expect LOL :)
your chest isnt suppossed to be on the horses neck lol. if it was you would have no balance when your horse lands for the fence. you hands should be resting along the horses crest and your chest should be about 5 or 6 inches away from your horses neck (it depends on the persons level of riding)
at this hieght, you shouldnt be more than 3.5 inches away. most showjumpers doing this height will most likely have their chest touch their horse at least 12 times in one round. and they're athletic enough to get their balance back before thier horse lands.
...Only hte United States has the whole hunters/equitation riders. Almost everywhere else, they jump what we (Americans) call jumpers.
At this level, it's not about prettyness, it's about effectiveness, and both of these riders are pretty effective (hence the reason they are jumping this high and making it look easy)...
Man I am gonna have to post some of my footage of my b grader jumping 1.8m in the six bar event in dandenong show! That was huge compared to this but only one fence,
ahaha i love how the music just continues

Errrr didn'y anyone teach you that it's bad for the horse?? sure I can prob too but it's very damaging for the horse...
If you speed up then it makes it alot easier for the horse to clear it

Cabogurl07 4 years ago
thats not true, you dont need speed for jumps, its all about balance, and precision.
Milkchocolateangel 4 years ago
Impulsion is not speed, impulsion is the desire to go forward; not neccesarily at high speeds, just the DESIRE.
Once you have impulsion, you almost automatically get scope and power.

you zoom in and out the camera like almost every jump... its kinda annoying. (hard to focus on the video)
horsecrazy96 4 years ago
pause at :59 sec...uhg horrible just horrible...i mean aren't you supposed to equitation before jumpers lol
ride2livexlive2ride 4 years ago
I think he needs to lay like that. Because the jumps are to high for sitting straighter. But I agree.. it looks strange.
