This video is fantastic. BJU is full of legalistic, holier-than-thou bigots. Pretty much just modern day Pharisees. I can't believe I wasted a year there.
I don't know what happened when these guys got expelled but it probably was not JUST for dancing to this, it probably just got them more demerits which gave them enough to be expelled. I love going to BJU & I have a there. I don't mind rules, we have to have rules in this world to live by or the world would be madness! I think if you are willing to obey the rules then you will do fine at BJU you don't want obey the rules then you don't have to go there, go somewhere else and follow their rules!!
If the two that were actually dancing were going to be expelled anyway, why didn't they tell BJU admins to drop freaking dead when they wanted to know who actually flimed them. There is no way BJU could force them to talk
Correct me if I'm wrong but it does mention dancing in Psalm 149; how the hell did those guys get expelled if the Bible mentions "Let them praise his name with dancing"?
I love when these IFB quartets try to do southern gospel. What is that? I'm IFB and a southern gospel musician and lol at their arrangement. I think I need to go show them how to play it correctly.
They can have whatever rules and silly 13th century nonsense they want, but they have no right to call themselves a university. The university is a place dedicated to critical inquiry, learning, gaining new insights into various aspects of the world, and the marketplace of ideas, not sticking to outdated rules and officially advocating creationist bunk in the "science" department.
I have been a Baptist for a long time......The problem with our denomination of Christianity is the Legalism....Esp. With BJU....How about 1 Cor. 10:28-31 Everything is permitted but not everything is Beneficial..Anything you do,Do it for the Glory Of God!..with that being said,We have freedom in Christ...God is impartial...we as humans are the ones who show Partiality.....Remember we all have a rebellious nature which comes from original sin..Let's remember the Grace our Saviour has given 'US'!
Maybe they were mocking, but I don't think they meant to mock God, just the old time music and maybe dancing in church, I don't know, but it made me laugh, and I think Jesus probably gets a kick out of the funny stuff kids do. He's holy, not a stuffed shirt.
I was in school that year these guys were expelled. I enjoyed watching the video. Never really figured out why everyone got so mad. I also remember the admin saying they are going to expel anyone who viewed the video, so I quickly deleted. That school is retarded and I would not recommend anyone going there. It's a prison. Trust me. I'm so thankful I am out of there.
That fruity-tooty, carousel music playing in the background is what BJU thinks is "holy." I'm glad this guy danced like Betty Boop to show just how plain stupid that music actually sounds!
I attended a HS that stressed BJU so much, it was like they believed it was holy writ, and anyone who didn't attend was a sinner. I POed a lot of people by refusing to apply and attending a different Institute that's actually dedicated to the study of the Bible. They said I was stepping outside of God's will by attending a liberal college that won't stress the need to "come out among them and be ye separate." now it's funny to listen to my classmates who went to BJU complain about it.
It doesn't matter where you go to college, as long as you hold true to Christ and God; Which college are you at?
My brother's going to Virginia Union University, which has a strong Christian Heritage, but is certainly not as strict as BJU. They love God just as much, but don't seperate God's people into classes; they view everyone as equal
Getting expelled from BJU is the first step on starting a wonderful life of freedom in Christ and ministry to the world. Wear that expulsion as a badge of honor (Billy Graham was espelled) - you got kicked from Pharisees University. Praise God!
I remember seeing this video in an email, laughing hysterically, and forwarding it... right before they expelled the guys and threatened to expel anyone else who viewed or forwarded the video (yes, they could track your emails... it was not an empty threat). I also remember sitting in chapel the day Jones III preached against that video, and then spent the rest of that semester pretty much preaching that same message. That was a very long semester.
I love how that kid enters the room, stares in horror, and even cups his hands over his mouth like a little girl - could his name possibly be Rod or Todd, and his last name Flanders? XD
Hillarious... expelled for dancing? It's like a remake of Footloose. Bob Jones University is the sorriest excuse for a college and even more so for associating the word "Christian" to it's organization. If there is a God, I'm sure that he is laughing at the Jones' ridiculous empire and waiting for the time to point them all South when they arrive at gates of heaven. I'm sure there's no room in heaven for another Hitler.
I can't believe that piece of shit music is that only thing you're allowed to listen them. Someone should put some Slayer on and open the minds of those poor students.
Why do you people who get a chance to go to a great Christian college go and ruin it by taking chances and simply not following the rules that they set out. The only reason why you hate rules is because you are a rule breaker. You can still have a great and fun life by living for the Lord. But what the world is telling us today, is "Live for today only!" and that's going to pay for it in the end, when we all stand at the Judgment seat of Christ. We are to be Ambassadors for Christ.

PureGraceTheology? Your going to side with BJU and their expulsion decision because @theplaybuoy has, as you claim, some anger issues?
I don't think he does. He's upset with BJU and what appears to be unfair discrimination recklessly applied to the process of making a good decision. If that's the case, I concur....and I don't have anger issues. I have righteous indignation issues.
@gondolacrescent5 Sorry to disagree with your assumption that I would side with BJU. I am no longer a fundamentalist, nor do I agree with many things BJU teaches. I would not send my son there either. However, I do recognize bologna when I see it. I gone to school there and know how they expel people. I also can tell when someone exaggerates quite a bit. Nobody gets expelled also for dancing. You would receive demerits for dancing with a girl maybe but still you would not be expelled.
4 were expelled for dancing??? I don't believe it. I went to BJU from 1989 to 1992. We got together in the Amphitorium in 1989 for the Gold Rush Days that happens every 4 years. Dr Bob Jones 3rd, and his wife Benneth danced on the stage for us to cheer on. I believe it was our old dorm supervisor Mr. Robinson danced himself to some music that everyone cheered for. There are no rules that says that if caught dancing that you will be expelled. I don't believe 4 students were expelled.
@PureGraceTheology i lived 3 doors down. they were expelled. don't speak on issues you know nothing about. i entirely regret my years at bob jones and would never suggest someone attend there unless things change. they will know we are christians by our love, not by how much we know, and how we dress, and what rules we set up that the Bible does not. sad place.
King David danced with wild abandon in the Temple before the Holy of Holy's-in fact it was so outrageous it embarrassed his wife and she let him know what she thought.
What was her motive in doing that? What was the motive for BJU to expell 'some' of the boys.
There's hypocrisy involved in both instances.
I honestly think God was pleased with that dance. It was genuinely funny and creative. God likes creativity. He created it and empowered his creatures to partake of it.
What do you wanna bet the dweeb entering the room and a few seconds later, running out, is on his way to the admin building to register a complaint of indecent and lewd behaviour in the male dorm....
Those people are at a level of crazy that is incomprehensible. I went to grade school and high school at a place run by BJU graduates. Suffice it to say, I won't actually go to Hell because I already endured it
WENT TO SCHOOL THERE FOR 6 WEEKS AND THEN i TOLD THEM TO F*N OFF, RESULTING IN THE DEAN OF MEN TELL ME TO LEAVE BUT THAT I WOULD BURN IN HELL FOR NOT DOING WHAT THE LORD WAS WANTING ME TO DO; I CRAWL ONTO HIS DESK GOT IN HIS FACE AND SAY I WILL SEE YOU IN HELL THEN.
@theplaybouy Being expelled at BJU does not mean they ask you to leave. You are literally escorted and watched as you pack your bags and exit the campus. If you have to spend the night there requires that you spend the night with the hall monitor present. The so called doctrine that you claimed to have come out of the Dean's mouth sounds embellished for the purpose of making them look bad. I do not agree with BJU in many areas but will side with them on this one as you have some anger issues.
@PureGraceTheology Been there dude. Got kicked out back in 89' for showing my ass and talking perverted. Luckily I had a friend that was a Hall Leader, and he wasn't a BOJO. So I got to hang with him for a few days till my parents came to get me from Chicago. He let me talk to all my friends and even my soon to be ex-girlfriend. I was a calm guy, But some people could cause problems so I do somewhat agree with the escort service.
@Radetzky19 Likely one of the 4 expelled--he actually saw a Baptist dancing.
I can understand what provoked that guy to dance so hillariously to that awful tune--I would have died laughing if I'd been there--I could never dance like that, but I appreciate something really funny and so out of place.
@RoseSheaLily Hi Rosie, we went to class together. Just want to comment with as much love as possible. That you are right to say that rules are to protect, and that under the authority of BJU it is their right to do as they please. Christianity as we know it is one of relationship, and not religion. (pt1)
@RoseSheaLily As we know it was religion that killed Jesus. The religious leaders who knew the law missed the messiah. When we are caught up in religion we are caught up in a performance mentality and we are outside of a relationship with Christ. Bless You. (pt2)
@amazinggrace03 Transparency has never been a character quality of BJU. Wouldn't want to shine too bright a light into that place -- people might actually see it for what it is. The more people see about BJU, the more "misunderstanding" and "bitterness." Yep. Better lock 'er down.
@USAFFountain No need to be scared. They are truly irrelevant, and have no influence over anything except for within the four corners of their manicured little bunker. Pity, yes. Fear, naaahhhh.
lol you guys should have known better. once you decided to go to bob jones thats like saying ok i wont have any fun for the next few years of my life. and correct me if im wrong but i deff heard a someone say S*** haha
The guy that was dancing...I'm curious...what is he doing now? How long ago was this video made? I took two classes in the spring of 2003...it was quite an experience...I was older than most...38...did well in the classes...but never went back. I believe Bob Jones was a sincere soldier of the Lord and wanted those who attended to be ready for the battles that were inevitable.
i had a sister who went there for a semester.. i know the rules and they suck. i go to college somewhere else so luckily i dont have to put up with that crap but i'm with beavis... college is a place to find yourself.. you cant do that if you cant go off campus or get involved with things that interest you because theyre not considered "christian" enough... Bob Jones is just a very ignorant college and i'd be pissed if i was forced to go there like so many parents force their children to go.
Bob Jones does NOT teach people how to 'live under a religious authoritarian rule'. You highly exaggerate. Unless you've realized, The rules PROTECT students, not " not prepare you for independent abstract thinking, normal human interaction, or life outside of those walls when you enter a common work/office environment to mix and deal with the "infidels" of other beliefs." How ignorant are you? Students are allowed off campus. bj doesn't keep you from "human interaction."
The clean room rule is to make the dorm life easier, and also to keep people to respect your stuff. And No drugs and alcohol, well, would you like to have a roommate who wakes up screaming when you're trying to sleep, or study? or would you like to be all messed up so you can't do anything and you waste your money and your life? Which do you prefer? Just getting used to and following the rules, or waste your money?
Ok, so many people have commented on how Bob Jones is in so much control over the students, and how it's too strict. Well, get over it! if you don't like the rules, go somewhere else and quit whining about it! And another thing: The rules keep you safe, and they're there for a reason. Like the rules about going off campus with a guy, that's to protect you from being hurt, because some guys are total jerks, you never know. and the one with keeping your room clean and no drugs and no alcohol,
"Rules" like those at BJU teach you how to live under a religious authoritarian rule. They do NOT prepare you for independent abstract thinking, normal human interaction, or life outside of those walls when you enter a common work/office environment to mix and deal with the "infidels" of other beliefs. This sh*t should have gone away with horse and buggy. In cases like this, it is dangerous to label lower thinking with "higher education." Anyone remember that BJU is a NON-accredited college?
iv been there for the fine arts festival and it was fun getting in trouble and crap. my bro and sis went there its is really a brainwasher i mean like its good that its christian but really too many rules
Omg!! He dances like Snoppy!!! Too bad they were expelled, come to SUNY Purchase, it's the exact opposite of Bob Jones and the professors here would probably praise you for it.
What are you talking about BJU is one of the best Christian schools. If you go there then follow the rules. They are the authority placed over you. I would stay there forever if i could. Its a spiritual greenhouse and they have structure that helps diminish distractions.
you can also find bob jones on the list of GQ's most douchiest colleges at #6 on the list. it was described as the school that most college republicans are afraid to align themselves with and a school of alumni who probably will end up starting a "ted haggard school for sexual reprogramming". i would agree, i know a few douchebags that go there.
BJU is Independent Fundamental Baptist and are extremely strict. No pants/shorts on women No shorts on men No sandals on men No long hair/facial hair on men No dating No visting of movie theatres No listenting to Contemporary Christian Music and Praise & Worship KJV only Strict obedience to the pastor only it's almost like a cult atmosphere
Wow. You are way off. I am a graduate of BJU 1996. Before that I went to public school all my life. Dating is allowed at BJU. They don't let you kiss and hold hands but you can date. It's not all physical you know. Maybe for you. You can walk around campus with your girlfriend. Eat together, sit togetger. Strict obedience to the pastor? Please explain that because it doesn't make any sense.
wow!! you're so out of date on the rules its not even funny!! women can wear pants men wear shorts while playing sports men wear sandals after playing sports men can have neat facial hair dating is encouraged not KJV only strict obedience to the Bible, God's Word maybe you should check on your source of information, it doesn't seem very reliable at all. you probably haven't even visited the school have you? careful, your ignorance is showing!
The website of BJU gives a list of rules and some restrictions:
"Abercrombie & Fitch and its subsidiary Hollister have shown an unusual degree of antagonism to the name of Christ and an unusual display of wickedness in their promotions."
One of the most fictitious displays of higher education ever created. The entire parameter of the university is surrounded by a fence. The faculty of the university create a strict regimented environment for their fundamentalist constituency, the students, to shield them from the evils of the world. They are all patiently waiting their Lord's return. They believe they will be raptured up to the cosmos to watch the destruction of the world as they are caressed in the bosom of their Aba Father.
good work, BJU! stick to your faithful commission to share the great news about Jesus (and the perils of the occasional light-hearted dance, celebration and laughter) with the world who is so obviously looking to you for guidance!
Read the first page of comments and now will add my own, almost worthless, opinion...
These guys deserve to be booted (if they were) if for only this one reason, I hate that song. Add to this infraction a childish dance (obviously a mockery), and then publishing it to the world...
This would add up to all the demerits required to hit the streets, in my book
wow. i got accepted to attend bob jones in october 2006. in march 2007 i was expelled. don't ask why. i wish i knew about this one before i decided to attend the college. great dance. check out my channel . ... maybe i should post my boom boom pow video on there.
BJU - where you go to get brainwashed, graduate, then realize your degree wasn't accredited, aaaand you can't get a decent job or get into a decent graduate school.
1. I spent the first 23 years of my life at BJU, got expelled, but came back and finished.
2. BJU is accredited
3. I am currently in a great music grad school. In addition we have had graduates at Universities such as Notre Dame Law Scool, U. of Minnesota, Florida State, Duke, Julliard, Kansas University, Eastman School of Music, and most recently, Yale Law School.
4. I don't think these students deserved discipline, but I know at least one of them came back to BJU and graduated.
I got expelled from the shit hole university and understood SALVATION...gettting away from the faggots at BOB JONES UNIVERSITY :) Fred Phelps Message of "God Hates Fags" became big when at BJU because it was talking about the religous shit that are so wiling to destroy lives in the name of their religon!
God's name wasn't mentioned nor represented in the physical dance itself, therefore God's name could not have possibly been taken in vain. However, the fact that an institution has that much Nazi-like big brother control over its students on the basis of ONE (out of thousands) of interpretations of religion means that the university is technically violating the constitution according to freedom of expression. One could sue :) This is why I remain atheist.
I'm not reading any other bullshit people posted about religion and school. I just want it to be known that this is one of the best YouTubes. It's the little touches that make it. The way that guy drops the towel and assumes a hand-over-mouth pose. The way the dude is dancing at :22 seconds in. It's simply amazing.
i live in greenviille guessssss what bjs is a cult... get outta my private life and gov. oh and for those that got expelled ur better off out of there
okay bob jones is accredited, sike...i know it is accredited, i fucking went there and transferred to a REAL university (university of maryland). why did NONE of my credits transfer? many public universities don't accept bob jones credits, trust me, i looked around for schools that would accept some.
This video is fantastic. BJU is full of legalistic, holier-than-thou bigots. Pretty much just modern day Pharisees. I can't believe I wasted a year there.

Hey---peace.

He created it and empowered his creatures to partake of it.

theplaybouy 1 year ago

@RoseSheaLily Hi Rosie, we went to class together. Just want to comment with as much love as possible. That you are right to say that rules are to protect, and that under the authority of BJU it is their right to do as they please. Christianity as we know it is one of relationship, and not religion. (pt1)
puffythemonkey 1 year ago
@RoseSheaLily As we know it was religion that killed Jesus. The religious leaders who knew the law missed the messiah. When we are caught up in religion we are caught up in a performance mentality and we are outside of a relationship with Christ. Bless You. (pt2)
puffythemonkey 1 year ago
you really should probably just take this off of youtube.. it's probably causing a lot more misunderstandings and bitterness than you know.
amazinggrace03 1 year ago
@amazinggrace03 Transparency has never been a character quality of BJU. Wouldn't want to shine too bright a light into that place -- people might actually see it for what it is. The more people see about BJU, the more "misunderstanding" and "bitterness." Yep. Better lock 'er down.

Bob Jones is just a very ignorant college and i'd be pissed if i was forced to go there like so many parents force their children to go.

beaviselectron ,
Bob Jones does NOT teach people how to 'live under a religious authoritarian rule'.

RoseSheaLily 2 years ago
going to bob jones is a waste of money lol 16k a year and rising its ridiculous
1halomaster1 2 years ago
Ok, so many people have commented on how Bob Jones is in so much control over the students, and how it's too strict. Well, get over it! if you don't like the rules, go somewhere else and quit whining about it! And another thing: The rules keep you safe, and they're there for a reason. Like the rules about going off campus with a guy, that's to protect you from being hurt, because some guys are total jerks, you never know. and the one with keeping your room clean and no drugs and no alcohol,
RoseSheaLily 2 years ago
"Rules" like those at BJU teach you how to live under a religious authoritarian rule. They do NOT prepare you for independent abstract thinking, normal human interaction, or life outside of those walls when you enter a common work/office environment to mix and deal with the "infidels" of other beliefs. This sh*t should have gone away with horse and buggy. In cases like this, it is dangerous to label lower thinking with "higher education." Anyone remember that BJU is a NON-accredited college?

One of the most fictitious displays of higher education ever created. The entire parameter of the university is surrounded by a fence. The faculty of the university create a strict regimented environment for their fundamentalist constituency, the students, to shield them from the evils of the world. They are all patiently waiting their Lord's return. They believe they will be raptured up to the cosmos to watch the destruction of the world as they are caressed in the bosom of their Aba Father.

PucksGirlfriend 2 years ago
God's name wasn't mentioned nor represented in the physical dance itself, therefore God's name could not have possibly been taken in vain. However, the fact that an institution has that much Nazi-like big brother control over its students on the basis of ONE (out of thousands) of interpretations of religion means that the university is technically violating the constitution according to freedom of expression. One could sue :) This is why I remain atheist.
