are they launching with a headwind in this video? it looks like such good inflation! very little input to get their canopy inflated...takes me a running start + front risers just to get the damn thing over my head on a local hill!
Ive got 250sq ft mil surplus chute Igot for 22bucks .I want to put lines on it for just this thing.ever consider a tether to a sand anchor so in stronger wind you could fly yourself up like akite?
Funny you should mention, John Bouchard was one of the people doing this stuff in parallel at the same time-frame. We both went to the University of Vermont, and went in slightly different directions. We spoke on the phone quite a bit, but never got to fly together. Perhaps we will...
are people using any riser inputs in these videos, or does it depend on the situation? obviously these guys are using toggles but how bout the PD team flyin over crazy shit?
Just having a look around at the Ground Launching clips and I'm getting a strong sense of deja vu! This is how paragliding was born in the 1980s . On a basic modern paraglider you could soar these dunes for hours and play around with a bit of acro whilst you're at it!
Search on youtube for "paragliding 1987" and take a look at the Jon Bouchard clip to see what I mean.
It helps to be comfortable under canopy, but any flying experience will transfer. The very first launch on this video is Tom, the DZ pilot. He had about 50 jumps when I shot this.
How'bout you come to Montreal for a canopy piloting seminar, i know so many people that wanna learn, and after reading your book on the parachute and it's pilot, we all agree that you definately should come here for a couple of days.
What i really wanna know is how many jumps do these guys have !! i wanna go to the Ground Launching school in California, the Jim Slaton school, but i dunno if i should wait until i have like 300jumps or so
These are rectangular chutes right?

It's fascinating! I've never jumped though I do paraglide and it's amazing to see the same thoughts/aspirations recreating themselves over time.
