I think the protesters called the wrong person a murderer. It was wrong what happened to Derek but remember Pierrepoint didn't put him there, Goddard and Fyfe did, the blame lays with those two.
@sohy3010 Pierrepoint or any good hangman would weigh up the condemned, not just officially but often on the sly. It was to ensure death was instantaneous and without unecessary suffering.
inane rantings about racism, what you all on about, bently was innocent of murder, the government killed him as an example, a mental age of 10, like a witch trial from1400ad
ARWWWWWWWWWWWW! Him mum didn't know what to do because his mental age of 7 is making him think he'll be fine when he doesn't realise he won't D': xxxxx<3
Lots of foreshadowing in this film. A few examples: The black hat worn by Bentley on the night of the murder. The black hat worn by the Daily Telegraph reporter when he delivers the bad news. And of course, Lord Goddard's black cap. Also, notice the warder adjust his tie after reading the newspaper article to Derek (foreshadowing the noose). Earlier, the guy who came calling for Bentley on the night of murder does the exact same gesture.
@irishbollix I think both countries are equally just as racist. I too have spent alot of time in both America and England lol. It all depends on the areas that you go too and how long you have stayed there.
@irishbollix You forgot to mention english slaves as well as irish, all the original slaves in the carribean were white, it wasn't until demand grew so much that blacks were used, and then of course became the dominant slave race over there.
@urbanliving3 REALLY?? You are, ACTUALLY, making a 'game' out of which country is the 'most racist'? You have to be THE most pathetic person, I have ever come across.
The Houses of Parliament scenes (where the MPs give Mr. Bentley the bad news) were filmed in the same location as the trial scenes: St. George's Hall, Liverpool. The actual trial took place at the Old Bailey, London.
derek was a bit of a naughty lad,did he deserve to hang?no,may god bless the soul of pc miles, but the wrong man was hanged .anyone interested in this case read"scapegoat" by john parris
I agree - "Scapegoat" by John Parris is an excellent book and well worth reading. I have often wondered - had Christopher Craig been 18 years old and thus also been sentenced to death would he (Craig) have hanged and the recommendation to mercy for Derek Bentley been uheld and thus his sentence commuted to Life imprisonment. Personaly I think it would have been so and thus it was more a (perceived) need for "an eye for an eye" rather than justice which was served.

it will remain the most controversial case in British legal history.
but to admit a miscarriage of justice nearly 50yrs later shows how corrupt
the system is through and through

@irishbollix We didn't abduct "negros" from Africa, tie them up on ships and bring them to our country only to have them as slaves and sold on.

@irishbollix firstly, this was about 50 years ago. A lot has changed. You only hate us Brits because of Northern Ireland.
The Irish are fucking scum. There are more people in my university than the Irish Army.
