Amusingly, I've read there was an experimental American version of a typical East Block panelhouse estate built in the southern US during the 1960s (IIRC). It didn't catch on. I kind of understand why. :-)) Though, to be honest, paneláks aren't twice bad if they recieve some necessary modernization and face-lifts, as you've already mentioned. Still, I've seen a few rare examples that were built in the 1970s-1980s and just reeked of obviously shoddy craftsmanship after a mere 20 years...
That is a very nicely done video. I'm always stunned that foreigners find beauty in some of the things I see as a blemish on Slovakia (panelaky for example). I become even more stunned when foreigners from countries like New Zealand willingly move to Slovakia. Did your Slovak wife force you? Lol! On the other hand I love going to Slovakia, love the nature and history, so from that perspective I can understand it. I love being there, but probably because I'm on holiday, not working. Lol!
I really like how interesting you found this part of the city which is in my opinion one of the most boring parts of Bratislava :) cheers for this video :)
This video is so lovely! Im so proud and happy there are still some people out there who are able to see the hidden beauties in every part of our country.
Thank you very much NZ stranger, you made a really nice job! I hope I will be given chance to see such a beautiful country as NZ one day :)
Well, I am from Devinska and I can´t actually believe this. A guy from New Zealand making a document about Devinska Nova Ves. I am really surprised of how interesting can Devinska be for a foreigner. However, I visited New Zealand last year and I can´t even express how breathtaking experience it was :)
acctually there is a mistake in the title of this video.... it is not a village anymore....it used to be in the past, but for several reasons (economics, public transportation,...) it joined the capital city and since then it is one of the quarters (or suburbs if you like) of the capital city...the term village is not correct anymore ;)
there are also various factors, why it can not be considered a village anymore (eg.: number of inhabitants, dominant block house architecture, its primary earnings do not come from agriculture)
however as an inhabitant of DNV Im very happy you liked it here and found it interesting place to see, as not many tourists come to this part....
and to the clever person who wants to demolish the "panelaky" - well,, find a better solution, where to lodge about 20.000 people ;) wish u good luck!
Living in as a foreigner in Bratislava since four yearI´m that impressed of Devinska Nova Ves, but your video was very good! The "panelaky" are ugly and should be demolished! Where did you get that information about the fierce fighting there? A slovakian fairytale?

That's not as extreme as Toronto weather.
This summer, it went up to around 50 degrees celcius (with humidity).
Earlier, it dropped very low.
