I am trying skull white with devlin mud then adding a dry brush of bleached bone. This really doesnt seem to be looking that great on bone compared to starting with a bleached bone base coat and using devlin mud then highlighting with skull white. The problem is that while I have some figures based in bleached bone it turns out they don't make that spray anymore so it looks like I may have to get an airbrush.
Its nice to see people using white undercoat. It really helps bring out the colors, and combined with the new washes it makes painting very fast and easy like you said.
you need to use a slightly larger brush, put some paint on it make sure that you get as most of the paint of the brush before you start at the miniature and simply go up and down at the spot you want to drybrush. and there are lots of video's on youtube
Hmm i'm really considring picking up a tomb king army soon , ive always wanted to do them and they're gonna get rereleased in May so chance are their skeleton warriors are gonna double price so i might start buying now.
@PhyschoGuides Of course you can! At the end of the day, they are your miniature's, and the colour scheme is all your choice. Example, my Vampire counts are painted in light green and bronze. They look amazing for me! So yeah, do what you wanna do! Hope they go well for ya. :D
@LastRussianEmporer sell them/trade them for an army you do want...be like "hey i got 1300 points of Space MArines and I'll trade for 1000 - 1300 points of Tau/Dark Eldar if anyone's interested". I'm sure someone would take you up on the offer...or sell them and get whatever army you want.
I like Tomb kings and Vampire counts , but i also like the dwarves :( idk who to pick , also in 40K my girlfriends bro is giving me his space marines but i prefer dark eldar or tau idk what to doo
@SkartoothStudios what i did for my necrons is i did a very heavy drybrush of the main color, so in my case adeptes battle gray, then, while i washed my whole model with badab black, i also washed the base, this gave it the black in the cracks of the sand. and left the gray on top, i would suggest going with the gray again with a final drybrush to get it back up. this would work for other colour too, just change the wash to devlen mud for browns and greens.
When it's your first army, I think you should chose by the looks/feelings you have of it, so that you like the army from the start.
Don't think so much about the power (as long as you're not very besotted with winning) but what you think suits you best, eg which background you're interested in.
I started with the dark elves some weeks ago cause I like their society and the way they're presented in WH and I love it :)
Funny, those are the ones that caught my eye too. I'm going to start with Tomb Kings because I'm just a bit focused on the undead and having immortality, so you really can only choose an army by the first, or second, impressions you get of them.
It's not like you would want to spend the time to skim through every single army book to decide what specific units/tactics/strategies are available.... especially since all the armies are so well balanced that it doesn't make that much of a difference.
@cezrulez If you have a ton'o money and like heavy smash your face brutal infantry Ogre kingdoms. If your lookig for a magic pumping Merciless lighting strike force Tombkings. If you want all that wrapped in a evil taco Lizardmen, so what I'm trying to say is pick Lizardmen! You'll have fun and it's about an average cost army.
I would HIGHLY reccomend not picking ogre kingdoms. If you truly love their look then go for them, but they don't play well, even if used well, and i personally dont like the models. I myself have used lizardmen and own tomb kings. Tomb kings rock, their learning curve is a bit steeper than lizard mens but the look and feel of the army is awesome, just be prepared to paint a lot of bone. Lizardmen are a very nice army, moderately difficult to get the hang of and very versatile, look great aswell
ya im starting a tomekings army its going to be frist army ever and i was a lot of your painting vids so i got a head start on painting but the thing that sucks that no one were i live plays it so im going to try to get my freinds to play it :D
But you still can wash your models' metal parts with Devlan Mud and/or Badab Black which will greatly enhance the looks of them. In addition you can also use some of the other washes, depending on the colors you use. They're all a very nice thing to have. ;)
i really need help with wich army I am going to collect I was thinging about collecting bretonnians or lizardmen ,dark elves, tomb kings, empire or skavens so I need help with witch army I sould collect.
high elves are fragile but elite, and always strike first, have extra slot choices for making your army.
wood elves, have arrows that "blot out the sun" waywatcher, magic bows/arrows, forrest spirits add durability to the army, very fast, still fragile generally... awesome
brettonia is full of knights, what more can i say?!?! lol if your charges break the enemy you win, very hit or miss army, but resilient none the less
look High elves and tomb kings are very similar. They are both light aromoured heavy range and magic. They both also rely on their more hard hitting special units. high elves do not have many good or many rare choices tomb kings are the same but their rare choices are accutuly awesome but they do have every few. Their lords and hero's are almost the same as far as game play and rules are conserned they are both light armour and hard hitting but high elves get the dragons so just go with whatever
i just bought 2 battalions of tomb kings a tomb king and a blister of litch priests yesterday! *shudder* there's no way of describing how perfect this is! *omg*
Great video, and the advice on Devlan Mud is spot-on. A bit of a warning though: don't apply it too heavily. It will spill out of the recesses and stain the rest of the miniature. Several drops are all you need to get in the crevasses of a whole Skeleton.
Also, Shining Gold and Hawk Turquoise have been done to death (pun intended) for TK. Ah well, great video though. 5 stars for you, MWG.
wow!!! this is going to help me with painting my tyranids and lizardmen. I'm probably gonna buy some devlan mud wash this week and some skinks to paint.
that delvan mud wash is awesome. i bought it and put it over some of my guardsmen which then turned to all of them. it is fantastic. thanks miniwargaming and thanks fireman tim.
question, im a first time painter painting my own space marine army and ive never really used wash before, i was wondering do u apply that after you do your base coat or after ur done painting your model? i never really understood the right say to use wash.
fuzzytank222, washes are usually applied after painting the model. The ink wash will find in the tiny cracks for detals. My tau's kroot mercs were awesome. The base was skull white, I drybrushed graveyard earth over the entire model except the hair/spines and abdomen. I made the spines chaos black and added Dwarf flesh for the tips. I drybrushed the abdomen fortress grey and washed it with the above mud. Very awesome model. Try something similar with ur marines. I prefer the Dark Angels colors
i agree the washes are great for a quick and awesome looking shadow. i like them and use them a lot. 14 days? that's impressive for an army looking like that. nice job

Devlan Mud is a bad choice for this project because its too expensive.
I would rather use Army Painter or Vallejo Washes.

I totally recommend such deal( I know it sounds like creepy advertisment but its true!)
but there's one problem, to paint such an army(2 battalions) you gonna need at least 3 devlan muds ;d
