This country was created as a religious haven... freedom for individuals to live and to worship God. Separation of church and state was written by Thomas Jefferson in a letter to a Baptist preacher ASSURING him that the government had no RIGHT to interfere with his right to worship GOD. This country was created to honor God not to honor government. Separation of church and state is not a BILL OF RIGHTS phrase. It has been totally misconstrued since the 50s.
Partly right partly wrong. Separation of church and state means the Government has no right to interfere in someones right to worship God, nor to mandate they do so or how they do so if they do. The phrase "under God" inserted into the pledge by Congress in the 1950's violates that entire concept. And, as I said, shows they are bad poets by simply inserting stuff into the middle of a poem they make the whole meter and meaning less elegant.
Thanks for sharing the info about the pledge. I looked it up and learned that it was revamped twice. The second time under God was added. Iambic pentameter was never a make it or break it with me, but upholding the right of ALL people to worship God is. I am a Christian but I don't get choked up when they omit the "under God" part because of this reason. Not everyone is a Christian and should not be made to pledge to God. A pledge to serve God is a personal decision that the creater gives us. If a non-Christian is made to pledge to God simply out of tradition, it is empty and undermines the whole reason to pledge in the first place. People can though pledge to protect their freedoms and actually mean it.

Thomas Jefferson was no socialist, the pledge was written by a socialist that believed in gov. That is a complete lie to say that the same people that wrote the Constitution would write a blind pledge to a country.
For freedom to endure, no pledge is ever made to a gov or a flag, the fighting human spirit for freedom is held above the gov. The gov is the enemy and to pledge to it is foolhardy. Honor the founding document that made us great, not a meaningless pledge to a bs flag.

He has spent years researching the foundation of the US with regard to Declaration, Constitution, and Bill of Rights. Interesting to see all of the godly influences that shaped our country.

This country was created as a religious haven... freedom for individuals to live and to worship God. Separation of church and state was written by Thomas Jefferson in a letter to a Baptist preacher ASSURING him that the government had no RIGHT to interfere with his right to worship GOD. This country was created to honor God not to honor government. Separation of church and state is not a BILL OF RIGHTS phrase. It has been totally misconstrued since the 50s.

Partly right partly wrong. Separation of church and state means the Government has no right to interfere in someones right to worship God, nor to mandate they do so or how they do so if they do. The phrase "under God" inserted into the pledge by Congress in the 1950's violates that entire concept. And, as I said, shows they are bad poets by simply inserting stuff into the middle of a poem they make the whole meter and meaning less elegant.

Thanks for sharing the info about the pledge. I looked it up and learned that it was revamped twice. The second time under God was added. Iambic pentameter was never a make it or break it with me, but upholding the right of ALL people to worship God is. I don't want to tell someone who to worship-- I absolutely don't want my freedom threatened. I will proudly announce my Lord is Jesus, true, but I want freedom for all.

Another thing, there's also a reason why the Pledge was always made to be voluntary. Bonus points to anyone who can answer that.
So many Americans I run into every single day that have no idea of the history of their country, let alone the history of the pledge and the people behind it. I'm guessing they also don't realize it was created as a marketing campaign by a magazine to profit off the flag by selling it bundled with the Pledge, to schools in return for subscriptions to the magazine.

Francis Bellamy wrote the Pledge. Everyone remembers him right? The co-founder of the National Socialist Movement that evolved into the political party, and founder of the Christian Socialist Movement. He was also a Baptist minister.
It makes you wonder why a minister would not include "under God" in the original. There's a reason for that. Also, there was a reason the original salute to the flag was changed to the Roman version. Also, USA was never in the original either. Anyone have answers?

I am a Christian but I don't get choked up when they omit the "under God" part because of this reason. Not everyone is a Christian and should not be made to pledge to God. A pledge to serve God is a personal decision that the creater gives us. If a non-Christian is made to pledge to God simply out of tradition, it is empty and undermines the whole reason to pledge in the first place. People can though pledge to protect their freedoms and actually mean it.
