was there at '05 that was a good year to mesa Verde, grand Tetons, Yellowstone, bad lands, mt. Rushmore, pikes peak, st Luis arch, etc. A VERY GOOD YEAR
They have dated the park back to 1 AD to 1375 ad, so it was occupied for that time period. They DID migrate, the food sources went from game to turkey to rats. And who did they hide from? My wifes indian side say it was religious, the spanish did not approve of the idols and carvings...amongst other reasons. I just came back from Mesa Verde and I cant describe the feeling EVERY time I go there, it was my fourth visit.
The National Park Service lists Mesa Verde as being occupied for 700 years. It also say the average lifespan but take those stats with a grain of salt, they and the infant mortality rates are from a relatively small sample of burials. Beautiful views in this film though. It's quite an amazing place.
@nita2605 So how long do you think they were there for? And everyone knows they didn't migrate, but were captured by aliens. They built those cliff dwellings specifically to hide from those above. You cant see mesa verde from the sky, and you cant pick up heat signatures through the stone. It was for protection.
They didn't "disappear" they migrated (which he says at end) and are the ancestors of modern Native American Pueblo people. No mystery there. Why they moved is still up for debate. At least he said Ancestral Pueblo and not "Anasazi." Mesa Verde was occupied for more than 100 years. Cliff Palace is newer tho I think. The site I studied was occupied from 1000s to 1300s at least though tree ring dates go back farther. The period of greatest occupation was those last 100 years.
oh come on i got deer and wild turkey in my backyard

This is an awesome place to visit. Nice campground too. There was plenty of turkey and deer when we were there. The ruins are amazing.
