If you mean that line that doesn't have a picture drawn, it's "Aren't you happy?" If you mean the entire missing verse, I've added the lyrics to the video description.
"The MIDI version of song "Land Beyond Dreams" from King's Quest VII appears to have a verse that is missing from the digital version. I was puzzled about this for a long time, and never learned the reason for this peculiarity until now."
Oh -- when Avril126 asked about the original version, I assumed she meant the version that included the missing verse (the segment you mentioned). Of course, you can hear the version without that verse in both the intro and the credits.
I really like the unused verse, it really calls back to Rosella's decision (regarding Edgar) in KQIV. It emphasizes the fact that she's not a 'selfish brat' (like a lot of people seem to think) but an independent girl who just isn't ready to settle down and wait for her 'happily ever after'.
You're very welcome. I never really understood why Rosella is sometimes labeled as selfish, either. Fiercely independent, yes, but selfish...not so much.
I wish they would have kept the "I'm not prepared to set my freedom on the shelf" line .... the music builds a bit here for perhaps emphasis in the midi version... and it's a nice moment that shows Rosella's spunk and independence.
I like the missing lines. I wonder if there's a recording with the complete set of lyrics? Also, watching the storyboards here, I just get the feeling that the opening could have been better choreographed. Sure, it was nice, but looking at how dramatic and snappy the Day of the Tentacle opening was, it makes me think Sierra could have made something a bit crisper and grander for their flagship King's Quest series.
Thank you. I doubt that there is a version with the missing lyrics out there, but it would certainly be interesting if there was.
As for superior intros, I'm sure some people would consider KQ6's intro as being the best of the series, not to mention the most technologically advanced, with those 3D graphics.
You're welcome. I find it a bit odd that this extended version of the song made it into the game's files, as if it was a last-minute decision to not include the extra verse and/or the MIDI was forgotten.
That's cool, thank you for sharing. Not a radical change, but a shame they couldn't go all out with it.
Unfortunately, this song alienated me a bit toward KQ7; "you don't burst into song in King's Quest!". Now, had I played the cd versions of 5 and 6, I would have realized that this wasn't the first time.
It took me awhile to get past the melodramatic dialogue before I discovered one of the most in depth games of the series. Now I unabashedly admit to having, on occasion, a "seventh quest soul"

do you have an mp3 file of her singing the original version?
Avril126 2 years ago
No. As far as I know, nothing like that exists.

in the credits you can hear the original singing (but without part 0:59 till 1:22)

I always figured there had to be more to that song since the Midi version has that extra bit in the middle.
Thanks!

I never thought I'd be able to listen to this whole song. Good Job!

The song's actually quite nice without the singing. Nice work on the compilation, Akril. :)
