  • Can u tell me how big is your gym by feets please?

  • you could use a power rack... it would save a lot of room

  • I have a back injury that allows me to squat moderately heavy weights (feels great afterward) but I am afriad of loosing my balance with a power rack. This morning I was standing on 1 foot putting my pants off and my airborne foot caught on the pants causing me to do that dance that people do when this happens. That shock to my lower back was torture... hard to believe I can squat 200lbs without too much trouble but this light weight shock hurts like crazy...

  • @mrsillyman You do realize a power rack is designed to help you when you lose balance?

  • @ThePaulWog Thanks... yes... i am sure it would be better than a squat off of a squat rack... but that 1'-2' of "falling" that would take place before the barbell hits the power rack stops is enough for me to try to catch myself... and jar my back suddenly... and maybe suffer a setback. Before I had to walk with a cane for 2 days (and I am a healthy fit male in mid 30s), I didn't realize how quickly I could get a back injury... and now I try to be as careful as I can. thanks for you comments.

  • @mrsillyman I figure you knew what a squat rack is. I was just distributing my typical youtube venom. :)

I understand what you're dealing with. I've got an injury myself (though not as debilitating, it's still limiting) in my shoulder, which is recurring and will never go away due to it being a bone issue... so I also have to be very careful with what I do.

Makes sense that you're avoiding exercises that could set you back horribly. Too many people aren't smart enough to realize a limitation.

  • very good gym, cute kid too

  • okay i got a bench & weights, a set of dumbbells and a curl bar, what more will i need to exercise/weight lift to have awesome workouts....?

  • @elcompajr69

    A pullup bar.

you can have an effective full body workout with a pullup bar, and a pair of dumbbells + weight plates .. of course a barbell is good to have.

    pullups, DB/BB rows, - back(+biceps);

    squats, deadlifts, calf raises, - legs;

benchpress/dumbbell press (or pushups), DB flys,- chest(+triceps)

    French press, CG press/dips -triceps

    DB/BB curl, chins -biceps

    military press, lateral raises, reverse flys, -Shoulders;

crunches, hanging leg raises, bycicles -core (ab area)

  • @xenonnati like that lat pull down machine???

    or just a pull up....

ey have you heard of that cage thingy, weight lifting cage???

    and thanxs for the info

  • @elcompajr69

i was referring to a pullup bar :P

theres a difference between pullups and pulldowns just like theres a difference between pushups and benchpress

yes the cage is called a power rack, its a very useful piece of equipment to have if you do heavy BB(barbell) squats, and BB bench presses

since it has safety bars that catch the weight if they where to drop, so you can give it all you got without any fear of getting crushed ;)

some of them even have built in pullup bars.

  • @elcompajr69

but those power racks tend to be a bit pricey.. 250-300$ even.. i chose to build my own out of a few meters of rectangular pipe, it cost me about 15-20$ in total

but even without a power rack you can have a great workout, as i said those exercises i posted can be done with a pair of dumbbells, a barbell and a pullup bar

and since you have a bench your all set :)

Check out Scooby1961 's channel (and site)

he shows that you can have great workouts with very basic equipment :)

  • @xenonnati power racks you said...?

well ima go ahead and buy one and yep i know that they are pricey

but ive been saving up and i think is about time to buy it...and haha

its funny you say that i always check that scooby guys' videos he has great advice and information...oh and thanxs for your info as well bro!

  • very nice! i like the cable crossover addition too thats crazy! it looks like u bought the whole gym out lol

  • nice gym you got there ....i like also the smith machine.....i don't have one yet ...but i think i just found one on craigs list....i have a cage with a incline bench that i use for bench pressing...the biggest problem i have, just like you, i don't have that much room...so whatever i buy it has to do more than one thing...one good thing is i have a membership to ballys so i use the home gym once in a while only...enjoy your home gym!!!!

  • dont u end up banging ur head into ceiling while doing chin-ups.

  • well.... u are observant. yes, I would like to have another 3" of clearance... but I will have to live within the parameters of the existing room.

  • that rig for arms is a arm buster

  • god i hope you are built .try push .ups .dips . pull ups and chin ups . and sprints and crunches.

  • you are wasting money!!! save some for junior's tuition.

  • great atmosphere

  • man when i get my own home im going to have my home gym

  • very very nice gym

  • this awesome

  • Awesome gym there, props on that. Your son is going to be very happy with it when he gets older lol.

  • im jealous

  • just wondering what the dimensions of the room are?

  • I just got a Bodysolid Powerline home gym with leg press and agree they are a well made and versatile machine. Like with most machines it takes awhile to put together (took me about 5 hours) and you get a workout lugging the parts up the stairs, if you put it in a upstairs spare bedroom. I went for a discontinued model and saved 60%. Saved enough to get premium floor mats and a decent bench and some new barbells. ;-)

  • Thanks. the leg extension on the G5S is not the most comfortable I have used but it is OK. I find it stresses my knees a bit if I don't take a second to really push the back of my knees into the pad. the Leg curl feature (standing and facing the machine, 1 leg at a time) is not good at all but i have never used a standing reverse curl machine that was any good. Overall the G5S does EVERYTHING extremely well (except what I already mentioned) and it was worth every penny.

  • Really nice home gym !!!

Im thinking of getting a body solid G5S mainly for the lat pulldown and leg developer How do you find those ?

A Power Rack would be a substantial addition !

I got the PowerLine PPR200X Power Rack

and i must say that it is really worth its money !

  • what do u do with your power rack? rack pulls and squats? i need one but they are quite expensive :/

  • Mainly Bench press , dips , Squats , overhead press, Dead lifts .

  • Very nice gym. I'm looking into creating my own Home Gym - I love using Elliptical trainers while watching TV. But because am a big lad it needs to be quite sturdy and durable. The last one made clanking and clonking noises and then a number of months later just broke in half...dreadful really.

I'll be getting my weights and benches as well as a multipurpose smith machine...probably needs to be good and sturdy as well.

    *****

  • you need bowflex dumbbells

  • tks for the comments... they help put things in perspective. I tried to send you a message but you had "friend lock" on.

  • i like your gym, you have it well organised for the room you have, i have my home gym its great to work out at home.

  • Looks good Steve!

    Rod

  • I spent a bit more than $2k (most of it on the Body Solid G5S) over about 5 years... Like I said in the video... i only bought one piece of it new... the rest used but in good shape... if you are patient, you can find anything 2nd hand.

  • preety nice setup i love the pullys small and fits snug to the wall but half that stuff you dont need lol like the bodysolid slanted bench i mean you could just use the regular bench for that also that sit thing you baught new just use treadmil/ or leg things on machine nice setup i need i have a nice weider machine with stations i love your prob bench i need ivanko pro bench and weights along with a t bar get a tbar very nice for back

  • How much have you put down to make this a reality (money wise)?
