  • they look like some that are used in Tokyo

  • What if you needed to see something down the end of the street?

  • Goddamn, if you were trying to go to sleep, this would annoy the shit out of you.

  • I love spain really i want to be there !!! Barcelonaaaa

  • Don't be fooled Barcelona is a horrible city. Looks can be very deceiving. Fantastic Air Port probably the best Ive ever been to.

  • this is really good project. hope they do something like this in our country. but yeah, in my dreams! i'm sick of the government and politicians running it. hopeless.

  • Si la bolsa sona, Barcelona es bona~~!!

  • curtis sent me!

  • incredible

  • I don't agree teemuruskeepaa that it's my problem and I have started it. As you can see some people feel the same way about pick-pocketing in Barcelona. In Warsaw, Poland the city increased policemen in the streets and they walk in pairs now daylight and nightime and that makes the city a little safer now. They should do that in Catalonia Place, the centre of Bareclona.

  • brilliant Idea!!!

  • mch ke wena... ojala este pais de mierda tubiera esas lamparas

  • Barcelona para la Victoria

  • I wish they would do something about thieves there and robbers. There should be more policemen in the streets potrolling it. It's a problem in Barelona but other than this Barcelona is a great city.

  • Right-wingers are always like you, reactionary. You treat the problem, not the cause. And usually you cause the problem yourself. Jajaja

  • The concept is interesting but after reading all the comments i wonder if a manual torch would be a better solution....? lol

  • Excelente!!! me quiero ir a vivir a Barcelona...!

  • bania

  • very smart - someone should send this to the governors office on Guam.

  • smart idea ^^*!

  • Take the lights out entirely. They just give the illusion of safety. Also.. I'm sure it sure if fun trying to sleep with the lights blinking on and off all night.

  • I've been to Barcelona. It's by far one of the greatest cities I've ever been in my life. It has everything, culture, history, sports, tourism, sea shore, fashion, architecture, music, art, public transportation, etc. and now they're going sustainable? Great!

  • Good luck trying to sleep when the lights go on/off/on/off.

And good luck seeing in the corners where the light can not see that something is moving.

  • The lighting works like this throughout most of my campus and it doesn't work very well. Half the time they don't even respond to you, and if an attacker wanted they could just sit and wait until the light went off. Even if the sensors they're using work better the safest solution will always be even, consistent light at all times across all paths.

  • she sad they are led lights

    but is l.e.d.

  • I would think that the carbon footprint of all those electronics is way more than savings.

wouldn't it be easier to just use led lights with a simple ambient light sensitive circuit?

and what about safety. If an attacker immobilize a victim, then there will be no "smart" lights providing amargin of safety or detection?

oh wait, maybe we can have a laptop on each light that does voice analysis and checks against database of voices.... aaaargh..

    over complication isn't green.

  • @YoLninYo

fully agree on lack of safety:

will the people start entering streets with dark ends? or just merely avoid them?

it will be heaven for robberies, stay without moving in the dark ends and then strike the victims, then again lights go off and no one will notice there is criminal and victim in the alley's end.

Barcelona is already on the top unsafe cities, it can only get worse!

  • Niiiice :D

  • Great! Subtitles for people speaking proper English! I totally needed that!

  • thats cool, LED's are bright. the lights they have in canada suck ass

  • Overall, good idea. One drawback that I can think of (a minor one) is that it is detrimental to the skyline and reduces night time aesthetics of the area.

  • Imagine you walking alone in a street. The street is totally dark, except near you. You can't recognize if there's someone coming.

Barcelona is a very unsafe city, lots of thieves in there. Making the streets more dark, even with economic porpouses, isn't good.

  • If there was someone coming, there would be light on them too...just sayin

  • Awesome!

  • I don't think that was a great idea.

  • that's why its called GOOD ideas and published from GOOD magazine. not GREAT ideas or GREAT magazine.

  • @PeBrIki Using 30% less power and polluting less isnt a great idea?

  • It is ... ;]

  • GOOD Magazine needs to make a Facebook page.

  • I second this motion!

  • I love Barcelona. Fantastic, beautiful, sun dirty city.

The best place in the world to be pick-pocketed,

  • @toocoolcat are you serious?

  • @tinram745

    Barca being a beautful city

or the best place to get pic-pocketed ?

  • Barcelona has a security problem, it is filled with colombian bag robbers, i experienced it myself, and the cops where inneficient. but its a beautiful city, that needs more police.

  • please you gtfo too

  • good

  • spanish sounds nice. Quite a good idea - however someone has to manage those "lamp-servers" and maintain them - which produces also additional costs that surely haven't been mentioned here.

  • Of course it hasn't been, Good is basically a poster-org for "green" shenanigans. They never mention the downsides of what they promote whenever it comes to the environment.

  • if they would put solar panels on them then that would be great

  • Definitely agree!

  • That music sounded so similar to ratatat.

  • did Gaudi design the building at 0:13?

  • indeed

  • @evonkuh

yeah. It is north west off the top of La ramblas. I think.

  • woooohoooooo
