Well, I see you are musician too. Who'd think we enjoy Bing, or Perry and like what you or I play too? I watched a couple of your blues videos; I'd love to have been playing bass with you. Piano is my first love, but also play bass and fiddle too. In Texas--you know we have to have a fiddle. I haven't touched it in so long now-who knows, I might better NOT! Anyway, thanks for stopping by, check out Perry singing Someone to Watch Over me.
Yes, it really is true,, I remember when I just a little boy, in the late 50's and early 60's, we almost never locked our door? That's a fact? When people tell me, "Sal life's always been tough, you're memories are fantasies!" I tell them, "oh yeah?" "Try keaving your front door unlocked today,, ok?" "Oh NO! We can't do that!" Well, I WAS ABLE TO DO JUST THAT, SO, WHO'S FANTASIZING?"
Well, at least you admit making mistakes; so many of us can't seem to EVER acknowledge we've EVER done anything wrong. I have to shake my head in amazement sometimes when I hear people say -If you had it all to do over -would you do anything different? And their answer- NO-, not one thing. That sounds an awful lot to me as though they never made any mistakes.
@grossdc2 you aren't the only one-- me too- in more ways than I'd care to count. But you know something-- God is in the business of giving new beginnings. It's amazing how well He can do that, but He does have a way of making something beautiful out of us in spite of mistakes. I 'm thankful for His mercy. Jesus paid for our painful mistakes on the cross. All that He suffered was to make something beautiful out of us in spite of all the ways we messed up.
Thanks for sharing this. I have it on DVD but it's nice to just beable to play this song when i'm working on the computer. It's great song and the orchestration is really great and sung by the great Bing. Thank you.
Thanks for posting. It just does not get any better than Bing and Perry. As far as girl singers I choose Rosemary Clooney for pop and Deanna Durbin for cute acresss and best opera voice-what a voice!!! I'd give something up-- hmmm....like eating for a few days if I could have a good talk with her.
Let me just say that I love bing, and I adore the appeal of the 40's and 50's. But I am a 90's child, and have thusly greatly benefited from the various reforms of the 60's, like womens rights, and civil rights, etc, and I'm happy I live today, because the bad things going on today, also went on back then, it's just no one talked about it as much.
As for the alleged 'child abuse' of Bing, I honestly think you'd be hard pressed not to find a child born in that era that wasn't spanked
the children were not killed though...as it is easily done today. the forties werent perfect...but there was a certain tolerence that has been lost these days. schools were safe.....sundays was reserve for family life and mom stayed at home with her family.
those were the days when.....we can stop a little girl in the street and tell her she was pretty without appearing to be a pervert.....nasty stuff was not found in the food and we werent scared to eat....people when to church and came out happy and ready to start a good week...,.love scenes in the movies were done with taste....adults and teenagers dressed impeccably....wowowow how can you not be nostalgic
I couldn't say it better. I dont know you but I am young and feel like that, and like 77MLeo, and as...well.
It is a pitty that it seems that people feeling like that we are far away one of the other. You know, when I dare to explain that to some one, they put a face like..well, you can imagine. Wish I were back in the 30s and 40s, even with their own problems.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
They were also the days when Bing was beating his children. Let's not get carried away - the 30's and 40's weren't perfect and the 2000's aren't so bad.
@leddger yes, and sadly, God tells us in His word that the world will just continue to get more and more evil, and so called peace and safety will be a lie. The only hope anyone has ever had is Jesus.
@leddger so nice to read your comment, wow, I thought that I was a nut for thinking that for years now! Thanks for making me feel less a loner than I thought I was! LOL!
please bring back the forties the song the actors the furniture the clothing.....omg what class. the expression on martha sleepers face so professional...a must to see guys and gals
Wonderful. I have listened to this song many times, without ever realizing it was from this movie. I am going to seek it out and watch it. Thank you so much!
We got out of school to see this movie. We walked by twos with one nun in front and another in back. No goofing around either. My that was a long time ago.
TRIVIA: When Bing moved family away from L.A., he was host of radio's Kraft Music Hall. Bing proposed transcribing the show in his home near S.F. to avoid the long train/plane/car trip, and then flying the transcribed show to L.A. to be played. The Kraft Music Hall refused-wanting to be live, but w/Bing so in demand, Chesterfield agreed with Bing. Bing therefore helped to personally invest in & create AMPEX, the forerunner to videotape we know today. Thank you Kraft Music Hall for refusing!
To add: With all the demands on his time, Bing probably did the best he could, because the WORLD loved him: Der Bingle, Le Bing, El Bingo-didn't matter, he had immense demands on his time. When he moved the family away from Hollywood to near San Francisco, and bought the ranch for the kids to build fences, work the land, feed horses, etc..it got them out of the Hollywood environment-I say a good thing. Kids, being kids probably hated it & thus held a slight grudge. Bing did better w/2nd family.
hey kybrosthree...sorry for your loss its tough but the world continues with its good and its bad......this song i cherrish also forever......both my parents are now.....IN THE LAND OF BEGINNING AGAIN take care
One i thought i'd never get to hear. My dear mum passed away in Febuary this year, and was always singing this, she said her father always sang it. Beautiful song but makes me cry
oh my i ve had goose pimples before but they always went away. listening to this video......cant get rid of them. what a song what an actor what a movie...what people well dressed.......omg....bring me back to the forties.
When my son was in high school he got into listening to rap music. No matter how much I talked to him he wouldn't quit. He thought was good stuff. One night I rented " A Connecticut Yankee in King Author's Court ". When Bing was was singing " Busy Doing Nothing " my son said, " Dad, WHO is that guy ? ", and I told him. A couple of weeks later he had bought every Bing Crosby album he could find. He's 28 now and still listens to them. Rap to Der Bingle. That says something.
Nice to see someone your age understand Bing Crosby. He was one of the hugest entertainers of the last century, rivaling Elvis. Too bad he was such a rotten dad to his family; but, we'll try to forget that. Dennis
You say he was a "rotten dad." Those were days of "spare the rod and spoil the child," where if children acted up, they got spanked. BIng's demanding schedule in the 40's: Selling war bonds, visiting our WWII troops overseas,, Radio, Records, Movies--where does one carve out time? He pulled his kids out of Hollywood (stars kid's wreck a car & get a new one). Bing bought a ranch in Nevada & made 'em work over the summer while friends loafed. Is this a rotten dad or one that cared? Caring.
I've sat through church services with what was thought a great preacher and not heard a message delivered as good as this was. What a great song and delivered by the best!
Thanks for your replies.
I'll be watching this again this year and loving every frame of it! Merry Christmas to you all.
john, thank you for posting this great clip of this wonderful movie. i watched this movie tonight, and this song touched me in a way it never had before, because of what i've done to hurt the one most dear to me.
I'm watching this very scene in the movie right now!
