I saw this show at Giants Stadium. Metallica killed for 3 hours, then it took Guns 1 1/2 hrs to set up there stage. Someone threw a zippo lighter at Axl and it hit him in the nuts. He went ballistic but kept going. Then someone else threw something and Axl walked off stage and never came back. Guns was on stage for about 20 minutes. Everybody was so spent from Metallica that nobody even cared.

GNR actually did a lot to bring Metallica to the attention of the mainstream, for better or worse. Look into old interviews and footage from the early days of GNR, and you'll see that those guys were always paying respect to Metallica. Too bad that all went down the shitter, but I believe that's more on James and Lars than anyone or anything else.

I saw the video on Mtv many times back then. I said GnR helped bring Metallica to the attention of the mainstream- "mainstream" being people like me and my friends back in grade school (in the 80's). Members from GnR were constantly referencing Metallica in interviews- as an influence and deserving of recognition- and this was before the Black album, before they were a household name. It may have been 1990, because I would have been in 6th grade by then. You're probably right about that. However, my point was that GnR helped bring attention to Metallica in various ways, and one example was the way they were always talking about them in interviews. That's how I learned about them, and it made me curious enough to go out and buy the "Justice" album at which point I forgot all about GnR.
