  • Now, THAT is talent and tone combined. Not overplaying, or posing. I would love to open for him. Great control of the slow bend. Conveying emotion beautifully and his band knows how to give him lots of space. One of the best performance videos I have seen on youtube.

  • I have been searching for this video for so long! Fucking a, I love Guy! He is amazing love, mah gawd

  • The song is called Play to Lose and it's on his Unrepentant Schizophrenic Americana album.

    Uob7ImhGEWc

  • does anyone know the name of this song?

  • n

    oo

  • Maravilloso................................

  • Guy's CDs are nothing compared to what you hear in a live performance. He has the most powerful blues voice I've ever heard. This video really is a gem for showing what you'll see and hear live. And, he's an all-around, friendly, good person. Learned the harmonica when he was 5 from a book and a kid's plastic instrument. Look where it took him!

  • This has to be the best quality sounding vid of Guy's performance uploaded todate.. PUrely inspirational. Thanks for uploading. Thank U GOD!

  • one of the greatest blues singing and playing i have ever heard....wish i had a voice like this

  • Great song!! I'm actually going to a concert with him at march 4!:D I can't wait!!!...

  • That`s what I call COOL!

Phantastic Musician - one of my favorite Harper.

    Absolutely Great.

  • Sexy and awesome - and what does he need the microphone for? The magic vanishes the moment he takes the mike :(

  • Found my first Guy Forsyth CD in a music shop at the Amsterdam Airport mid 90's. Been a fan ever since, gotta get him to come to Orlando.

  • Watching this video again kind of feels funny. I went to see Guy play a while back in Fredericksburg, TX on whim. I was sitting out behind the little restaurant where he was playing having a smoke(all lonely) having gotten there a couple hours early by accident. I'll be damned if Guy didn't sit down next to me and light up a smoke and sit there and talk and debate music for a least half an hour. So incredibly cool of him. He really is nice guy, and a class act all the way.

  • Saw this guy back round the early 90's when I went to the States for work. Was a dry county maybe Louisiana cant remember.Pay and sign into a tiny club to get a beer.Out the back of nowhere. And there he was.Blew us away.Bought his home produced CD.This little red head blonde kid with the huge voice and the 'tude.Goddam if he didn't come good!Recognize him from the tat on his arm.Can You Live Without was the name of the CD and hell if my kids dont play it now for themselves!Talent lives on!

  • Song is called "Play to lose". Found it on Spotify.... on the album "Unrepentant schiszophrenic americana". That one starts out with ....4 minute of solos, and the song part comes in the end. Like this version tons better though.

  • This was my dad's favorite artist at the time of his death march 12, 2010. Amazing voice. catches me everytime. I would love to meet and speak with him. I saw him in austin at a blues bar with my dad and it was the best show i've ever seen live. He can sing that loud with a room full of people and you can hear him just as clear. This is real talent. One luv guys.

  • Elvis T. Busboy used to do this off stage belting out a song not just at the bar but standing on on it and tables.... I saw Guy do this in Tyler at "Ricks on the Square in 1998... I first saw him at Stub's in Lubbock 1994 and he is one of my favorite people to see performing live... He has aged a bit but still looks great and if anything his sounds have gotten better..

  • Saw this live almost 4 years ago. It still gives me chills every time I hear it.

  • I saw him do this in FW at keys lounge. The place was full, but everyone was silent and in a trance.. Gave me freaking goose bumps. Anyone know the name of the song?

  • Seen him do this live - fucking incredible. If you ever get a chance to see him live - do it

  • This guy-"Guy" certainly has INTENSITY ! Opening vocals gave me a sense of Jeff Buckley & his harp playing has depth & feeling which perfectly expresses the mood.

    As a harmonica addict I just got me a great fix.Thanx !!!!

  • This is so good....man I could listen to it all night...did he ever record it?

  • i once saw him open befor Eric Johnson at Antone's he did this song to a packed hose and blow us all away been a fan ever since...

  • Wow! Loved that intro, yes powerful.

  • talent

  • One of his best song in my opinion, he has a lot. I would like to see him do his version of "Use Me Up" the old Bill Withers classic.

  • WOW !!! I am lost 4 words. This HAS to be some power $h't rite here yo'.. Really.. -Thanks for sharing this video with all. U have made my life richer(to say the least). Soul Food. Peace to u forever.

  • master of improvisation, respect...

  • real

  • @Bagpipe13 Hey 13! This is my fav Guy Forsyth vid. Thanks. Texas blues rocks bro!

  • @srvinfinity what is the name of this song bro.

  • anyone knows the name of this song ? Genius.

  • play to lose

  • I think Guy was at his best when these cats played w/ him! I miss em and that time not so long ago. Not really an Asylum Street Spanker follower, they are good, but Guy's blues like this are so so damn good!

  • He isn't always so good, mostly when he has a girlfriend....

But here he is on his best and that's the way I love it.

I saw him 4 times live in a period of 12 years, he doesn't need to change his style, on this way he is one of a kind.

  • He's got a daughter now. He adores her.

  • I LOVE when he does this! I just posted an excerpt of his Weatherford concert on a gorgeous night in June.

  • More of this music ant the world will be a better place! Cheers Guy!

  • I Think he´s playing a harp in the key of A. He plays cross, so the Band plays one quart down in E. I tried to play his licks with an A-Harp and it worked really well. Check out his version of Blind Willie Jonsons "God moves on the Water" Its awesome!

  • You wanna hear more bluesharp on fire? Check out the groovy intermezzo in Forsyths version of late Didley's 'Mona'

  • And so it's not about how to work a blowbend on hole 9 in 12th position. It's not about playing like Joe Satriani or Ingwie Malmsteen on bluesharp and sound like a rockguitar in overdrive. Just play the blues punk!

    Rock on

  • Due to the greatness of this harpsolo is the key Guy's playing it in: On a A-harp in third position over blueschords in B! Mind you, it's a tonguebreaking and lipstraining procedure to get all the bends!! But he's drawing them. Right on. Guy's showing that playing bluesharp is about pure emotion, musical freedom and ruthless timing. Blues' drippping off!

  • Fantastic! How'd i miss this for so long? Thanks!!!

  • Unglaublich, dieser Mann. Ihr müsst ihn lve sehen!

  • very impressive, great harp sound, great vocals

  • Saw him for the first time recently. Got to talk to him in between sets. He's a really nice guy! He did this song(Play to Lose) during his second set, walking around the bar, singing over the bass and drums. It's impossible not to get goosebumps when he sings like this. It was an absolutely fantastic show, so much talent and charisma I don't think any bar is big enough to contain Mr. Forsyth.

  • Get any new video? 'Cuz it's rare. But then, that's the way Guy likes it...

  • Didn't take any video, it really doesn't do Guy justice. This video is incredible but seeing him do it in person, it's hard to keep your jaw closed.

  • I have to agree with MissPickletoes, I know him but he should be much bigger.

  • talent brewing over

  • Guys, this guy's vids on Youtube do not do him justice! His studio recordings (which, by the way, are considered collectors items now) are fantastic -- especially his early bluesy stuff. Hearing him live also is much better than any amateur recording can hope to capture.

  • HOLY CRAP!!!! Why have I never heard of this guy before!!! He is AWESOME!!

  • Never heard of Guy Forsyth? Guess you're not from Texas...

  • Nope.....but his name should be a household word... My jaw dropped to the floor watching him perform.....what a talent!

  • dude can play that old harp some justice

  • You got that right 13! He blows the roof of the house W/voice and harp.

  • One gigantic blues bomb goes off in this baby from beginning to end! A fine belt out of the box from the bar to the stage sustaning a harp note hanging on the smoke of this Texas club scene.

  • that is some violentttt minor key playing. i think i jizzed my pants at 3:38 haha five stars

  • What, you couldn't hold out 'til 3:44?

  • Sure... he's good! I like it. Is he still around? I wrote a blues song that I would like someone to play. Can you make contact with him. Sung by the right person, it would stand out.

  • Went to CD exchange recently with a friend and thought to look for stuff not readily availble on the Internet -- like Guy and Ian Moore. The didn't have it. Couldn't get it except by special order, $25 and up.

Seen Guy a few times live. He's always "real." Not sure of the name of this particular tune, but it's definitely his early, more bluesy shit. Maybe off the "Steak" album or earlier. His lable was and maybe still is Anton's in Austin, which specializes in the Austin sound. Google there.

  • that's the stuff!!! hell yeah!

  • intense and emotionally shocking!

  • Im replying to a shmucking old post, oh well...

  • I used to see Guy and his band in Austin in the mid-90's at a place called Joe's Generic Bar. They were hot. He'd do his solo thing while carrying a tip jar through the audience.

He always put on a great show.

  • this magician turned noorderligt, tilburg, holland, into a voooodoooo place !

  • well said jackrabbitrio i totally agree i saw him in Nijmegen (Holland) twice , and it's by far one of the the most inspiring artists i saw

  • Guy Forsyth is perhaps the most enjoyable performer I've ever seen. He's a man who loves music as much as a human can, with such tremendous energy and joy that it's impossible not be infected by it. Seeing him gives you a high that lasts for days. With his music he is American to the bone marrow in the best way possible with a mix of blues, rock, folk, funk and anything else that lives on any street in America.

Drive a thousand miles to see Guy Forsyth. You'll thank me.

  • The title of the song is "Play to Lose". I don't know if it's available on any studio albums, but it's on his new live album.

  • Does somebody have jesus walk on water from guy forsyth??

  • yeah "Jesus walk on water" is a cool song.

It's a Blind Willie Johnson cover, the original is amazing

  • Hi there Guy, and is that George?
