i believe with sudden cardiac arrest it takes 10 seconds collapse after your heart stops, im guessing by the time he smiled, and looked at the crowd, thats when his heart stopped, 5 second later hes on his knees , then the ground... :( He most likely had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, that can happen with some athletes, ive witnessed it before in real life, its Depressing to see them happy then they die, its sad poor guy

this is goin off the subject of the video but in Spain, when Puerta died in 2007 from AVRD every la liga club had 2 by their laws have a defribulator @ the grounds (which apparently saved anotha spanish players life only a few weeks ago) these cost 6000 euros each apparently. & altho they used a defribulator on Puerta in the dressing room it still didn't save him :-( but RIP all these young players in recent years that've lost their lives 2 this terrible disease.

I read the ambulance took 10 minutes before it could get onto the pitch once called. At all large events, an ambulance should be parked at the stadium because of possibility of riot, etc, not just for team as in the USA. I am Portuguese so no disrespect, but I had a child one of the worst heart patients in the world. They should have defibrillator in the available ambulance, and all team members take CPR class. THERE ! New EU standards.

I was the mother of a child heart patient who died in 2002 at 14, one of the rarest in the world. On the hypertrophic cardiomyopathy comments, I don't know if they opened his heart at death, they usually don't bother. A telltale sign is that he shit himself, it appears, so he was possibly in cardiac arrythmia and dying on his feet. This is quit unusual. One question, did he have to go to the bathroom, a range of issues, including embarrasment, exertion ? Team members should know CPR !!!!

his death would not have been prevented by an AED..FYI--> he had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. His heart could not create the pressure gradient needed to remove the blood from his pulmonary circulatory system causing pooling in the lungs and ultimately his heart stopped. because the obstruction of the mitral valve caused complete blockage

There was no sign of pulmonary edema that you speculate about. He was clearly smiling on the video, that would have been impossible with seriously impaired pulmonary circulation.

CPR was immediately performed but the chances of surviving a ventricular fibrillation are very very small.

the way he gave CPR is not right dude it should be 15 chest compressions and 2 rescue breaths 4x if this happened before 2005 because the AHA revised it to 30 chest compressions and 2 rescue breaths for 5 repeatitions. if CPR didn't worked out they should have used the defibrillator that's the equipment to jumpstart the heart not by pounding it.
