@Sprintimeboy I love Chuck Berry and Paul Westerberg both as much as the next music fanatic but it definitely doesn't end @ Westerberg. Wilco anyone? Foo Fighters? Ryan Adams? There's some great rock n roll these days. Westerberg is INCREDIBLY under appreciated though.
@McLarnan There is some great rock n roll these days? Come on now, The only bands out there are worth paying for are Social Distortion and Flogging Molly.
@rjplamf61 I LOVE both of those bands, with a passion...but saying they're the ONLY 2 bands today worth playing for is just ignorant. Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, Devil Makes Three, Gaslight Anthem, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Wilco....that's a select few, think about how many bands there are out there...there are more than 2 that would be "worth playing for". I wouldn't doubt for a second that Westerberg, and the fellas from both Social Distortion and Flogging Molly would agree with me.
@McLarnan Check out some recent Mike Ness interviews. When he is asked what bands he is into he gets very hard pressed to come up with two. The last interview I came across he said he was into the Hives and Frank Turner. I just feel there is alot of nothing out there, Every now and then you may find a jewel in the bunch. Thats just my opinion for what it is worth. I don't think it is ignorance andI did not mean to put you down. Hey, if a band turns you on great. I wish more did the job for me.
@rjplamf61 Was he hard pressed to come up with two? or ONLY two? I think for some it's hard to allow themselves to truly appreciate something new, because it's just that..new...hasn't had time to soak in like the stuff you already love.ignore whatever hype youve heard and just dive in, I guarantee there's as much excellent music now as there's ever been. It's just hard because very little is "original" any more, it's all been done, but it can still be done great and/or better. they're out there.
I love this this song, and this performance sounds good. I'm a little surprised nobody has commented how he forgot the words to the last two lines of the second verse. "Feeling like a hundred bucks ... St. Mark's Place."
Alex Chilton. Didn't ever hear of him until this song('87). Chilton wrote some great tunes. Check out "Nighttime" by Big Star, Or "13", or "September Gurls", etc etc. He was an excellent songwriter. .
the hook with westerbergs ax playing is that he does everything the hard way & never cheats/makes it easier...Dave Minehan told me this in the studio(who's the shit by the way)...lots of cow bell on this version...?
Stink was like back in what 1981. They were still Garage Rock Husker du, making, finding their sound at that time, like their first album, maybe second, with Twin Tone Records.?. They did have a few Glimmers of greatness in Stink, foreshadowing for what was to be the MATS.
There are really no good tabs for this song, I've tried looking. I've used this video to try and teach it to myself, but he must use a weird tuning, cause I can only get a crappy sounding cover of it
Indeed, just like a lot of Paul's best (e.g. Merry Go Round, Love You In The Fall). You can play it in standard, too, though. Here are the three chords to the intro:
Is this the best song ever?
