  • Is this the best song ever?

  • Something is lost at 1.5x speed, but I love the tie clip.

  • 1.5x speed, but I love the tie clip.

  • NICE!!!

  • who the FUCK disliked this?! I know it ain't exactly the mats, but COME ON!

  • One of my greatest heroes singing a song about one of my greatest heroes. I'll die before I get sick of this!

  • and that children, is how you write a proper rock and roll song

  • @bryanaparis absolutely right!!!!!!!!!!!!! been listening to pw since I was 14! I'm 41 now and his music still gives me chills!!!!

  • @Sprintimeboy I love Chuck Berry and Paul Westerberg both as much as the next music fanatic but it definitely doesn't end @ Westerberg. Wilco anyone? Foo Fighters? Ryan Adams? There's some great rock n roll these days. Westerberg is INCREDIBLY under appreciated though.

  • @McLarnan There is some great rock n roll these days? Come on now, The only bands out there are worth paying for are Social Distortion and Flogging Molly.

  • @rjplamf61 I LOVE both of those bands, with a passion...but saying they're the ONLY 2 bands today worth playing for is just ignorant. Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, Devil Makes Three, Gaslight Anthem, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Wilco....that's a select few, think about how many bands there are out there...there are more than 2 that would be "worth playing for". I wouldn't doubt for a second that Westerberg, and the fellas from both Social Distortion and Flogging Molly would agree with me.

  • @McLarnan Check out some recent Mike Ness interviews. When he is asked what bands he is into he gets very hard pressed to come up with two. The last interview I came across he said he was into the Hives and Frank Turner. I just feel there is alot of nothing out there, Every now and then you may find a jewel in the bunch. Thats just my opinion for what it is worth. I don't think it is ignorance andI did not mean to put you down. Hey, if a band turns you on great. I wish more did the job for me.

  • @rjplamf61 Was he hard pressed to come up with two? or ONLY two? I think for some it's hard to allow themselves to truly appreciate something new, because it's just that..new...hasn't had time to soak in like the stuff you already love.ignore whatever hype youve heard and just dive in, I guarantee there's as much excellent music now as there's ever been. It's just hard because very little is "original" any more, it's all been done, but it can still be done great and/or better. they're out there.

  • Yay for Blasty!!

  • Where's the love button?

  • what a great rhythm guitarist!

  • @Sprintimeboy Dude thats quite a statement

  • @crookedrain333 that's what I'm sayin, hah

  • Paul is the epitome of coolness.

  • I love this this song, and this performance sounds good. I'm a little surprised nobody has commented how he forgot the words to the last two lines of the second verse. "Feeling like a hundred bucks ... St. Mark's Place."

  • why is the strap around his butt?

  • @fmpyoyoqueen93 They're called Braces. haha

  • @Rotateitbaby They seem to be his suspenders

  • what a great song and this is a magical performance .... fucking gives me goose bumps

  • i have always liked his strumming style.

    he covers all the board...

  • Alex Chilton. Didn't ever hear of him until this song('87). Chilton wrote some great tunes. Check out "Nighttime" by Big Star, Or "13", or "September Gurls", etc etc. He was an excellent songwriter. .

  • @CapnCanard Uhh, what about "Kangaroo," "Life is White," "Holocaust," or any of the other GOOD Big Star songs, not the semi-famous ones?

  • The Bruce Springsteen of the Midwest.

  • @MrWiiPS360 More like likely contender for most inspirational, talented, amazing perfomer/songwriter of all time

  • Great song and a great video!

  • phenomenon

  • I was there!!!!!!!

  • tommy keene rules!!! power pop god!!

  • RIP

  • what you can't see in this video is tommy keene is the other guitar player!

  • RIP ALEX

  • great version of a great song for a great hero. RIP Alex Chilton.

  • You weren't known well enough for your greatness while alive Alex, I hope you get the deserved awareness in your passing. Rock In Peace!

  • I guess he didn't die in Memphis, RIP Alex Chilton

  • Godspeed, Alex Chilton.

  • A magnificent tribute to a magnificent talent.

    RIP Alex.

  • RIP Alex Chilton ... pop songwriter extraordinaire

  • RIP Alex Chilton

  • RIP Alex

  • RIP Alex

  • R.I.P. Alex. You will be missed.

  • dont even like big star that much..but thats a fucking proper tribute song right there.

  • @outsidernl .. no doubt ... good call , well said

  • You are missing out.

  • @outsidernl ... no doubt about this being a proper tribute song .... big star was pretty cool though

  • @outsidernl Seriously don't like Big Star? Are you deaf?

  • Check out the first two Cramps 45's, produced by Alex Chilton.

    You'll like 'em....

  • alex chilton

  • i want to defocate on your opinion!

  • freaking genius

  • For some reason, maybe his look, he reminds me of Keith Richards

  • @Gobglubby I always got a Johnny Thunders vibe from PW, but JT isn't that far removed from Keef, so there you go...

  • the hook with westerbergs ax playing is that he does everything the hard way & never cheats/makes it easier...Dave Minehan told me this in the studio(who's the shit by the way)...lots of cow bell on this version...?

  • fun on rock band

  • amen to that.

  • best song writer ever !

  • you can't forget about Pete Townshend

  • Who, whats on first. Sorry, PW. Did not and still not, Pop Rock,

Garage Alternative Folk Friggin Rock is PW.

Much Respect for the Fore Fathers. PT is Excellent, Just not in the Same Category.

  • Agreed. No Dispute. Color Me Impressed.

  • the album stink kinda sucks but most the other ones are pretty good

  • Exactly . I here such nonsense about how good Stink was and really records after Bob Stinson left were a lot better than Stink.

  • Stink was like back in what 1981. They were still Garage Rock Husker du, making, finding their sound at that time, like their first album, maybe second, with Twin Tone Records.?. They did have a few Glimmers of greatness in Stink, foreshadowing for what was to be the MATS.

  • I'm in love with this song.

  • punk

  • There are really no good tabs for this song, I've tried looking. I've used this video to try and teach it to myself, but he must use a weird tuning, cause I can only get a crappy sounding cover of it

  • At least there's tabs for the guitar. There's NO bass tabs for like any Mats songs anywhere. How's a guy supposed to get his Stinson on?

  • Pay attention to the bass track, tab isn't needed really.

  • Its an open A tuning E-A-E-A-C#-E

  • does anyone know where to find the tabs for this song? google just finds some incomplete or bad ones :-(

  • lol listen to that sweet cowbell.

  • Figured it out. If anybody cares. Open A. EAEAC#E. Rock on.

  • Indeed, just like a lot of Paul's best (e.g. Merry Go Round, Love You In The Fall). You can play it in standard, too, though. Here are the three chords to the intro:

    e/B/G/D/A/E

    9/9/10/11/9/-

    7/-/11/9/7/-

    5/-/9/7/5/-

  • Hey anybody know what tuning hes using for this song?

  • fuckin' paul westerberg...this song is just incredible.

  • thanks for uploading this... amazing!!!

  • If anyone's interested, Paul's using an Ibanez Talman, a little small and thin for my tastes but it sounds really good here.

  • i thought that guitar looked familiar, thanks for pointing that out.

  • has he ever played the uk? =/

  • I love all the vids you've posted, Blasty. I get to see Paul Westerberg perform live in a few hours at First Avenue. I am way psyched.

  • Wish I could be there!

Please go to Paulwesterberg dot net after the show and let us know how it went, maybe give us a review.

  • where , when and how, I must check his next dates out, I have seen him plus the mats six times but I need another fix

  • fucking amazing

  • Paul Westerberg is tops. Put my pointy hat on upside down & dance a little jig in his honour. Bravo Pablo.

  • Awesome! This is rock.

  • great performance!!
